  • my house is built out of whip cream personally...

  • Many people don't know the igloo is a fairly new invention. The northern natives did not build them until they were taken to England and saw brick houses. They copied the brick construction with snow blocks. Before that they survived the winters by staking down on the ice, large, live captured bull walruses, cutting an opening in the abdomen, applying a salve to stop bleeding, and climbing inside overnight. After several nights, they would release the walrus and capture another one.

  • Was that Jackie Chan speaking?? XD

  • Now construct a snow hooka in the middle.

  • penguin...

  • Why do they look tan?

  • @ItsOnlyMeZ that's their natural skin tone....

  • @ItsOnlyMeZ To elaborate more on randuminsanity's comment, the Inuit are descended from the East Asian races (eg. Mongolia, China, Japan, etc.), with some Native American and European ancestry and influence as well; they live in Alaska, Canada, Siberia and Greenland. You also have to realize that many of them are out in the sun all day, not to mention that snow reflects sunlight. Not all Inuit are as tan as other Inuit either...it really depends on their ancestry and sun exposure.

  • @VanSisean Thanks

  • @VanSisean Then why are White people so White and they have light hair and light eyes?

  • @anythingnew As I said, genetics and ancestry play a crucial role in determining skin tone. Since the Inuit are originally descended from East Asia, they bear a resemblance to their forebears. Eastern Asians originally migrated from hotter regions, but gradually adapted lighter skin tones to suit their climate (hence why an Asian from tropical Thailand looks different from someone from temperate Japan). Anyhow, to specifically answer your question, white people adapted to more polar climates.

  • @anythingnew To clarify, white people adapted lighter pigment, blonde hair and blue eyes, among other traits, to suit the polar climates. However, it also depends what you mean by "white people," since I'm more specifically referring to the Germanic peoples (eg. Scandinavians, Germans, Anglo-Saxons, etc.). The Latin peoples, also typically defined as "white," are obviously darker, both as a result of the Mediterranean climate and hybridization with other peoples (eg. Moors, Arabs, etc.).

  • @VanSisean Inuit still don't have blonde hair and blue eyes. Explain that....

  • @anythingnew I already did. The Inuit are descended from people of East Asian descent, while Nordics come from a different line of descent, hence why those genetic traits occur more frequently in "white people" than Inuit. However, that doesn't even necessarily mean that all Inuit don't have blonde hair or blue eyes; look up Blonde Eskimos.

  • @anythingnew Reflection from the snow.

  • @ItsOnlyMeZ They look so tan because a bigger % of sunlight is reflected on the surface of the snow due to it's white so their skin gets more sunlight radiation. Same happens when you go to ski... you face gets tanned for example...

  • @ItsOnlyMeZ (PART 2) also as another used said that's their natural skin tone due tehy've been living there for countless generations...

  • @ItsOnlyMeZ inuit

  • lol, "really warm, several degrees above freezing".... 36?!?

  • @HaloCreed13579 Warm enough for a baby to sleep, naked. 36? I think so.

  • I like how at the end he says "It can be very warm! Several degrees above freezing! =P

  • I was amazed when Nanook used an iceblock as a sunroof, and a snowblock as a reflector....

  • 0:47 xxxxxxx

  • Why are they using modern tools? modern saw made of metal? knife made of metal? that is not the eskimo way, they are suppose to use animal bone & skin.

  • Im happy with my apartment

  • In a sleeping bag, several degrees above freezing is fine. Granted, "very warm" probably isn't the right expression.

    It collapsed on Me LoL

  • @Arfrofra i just started mne. its gunna take ages coz im using smal fat blocks instead of the big long ones they used in this vid

  • That is a COOL way to make an igloo.

  • @stschabrun thats the only way to build an igloo, friend.

  • @DrunkenTundraMonkeys No that's not the only way, you can always build an igloo with small snow blocks.

  • why are they black? :D

  • @NoemSis ever heard of ice burns? :P

  • @lespaullover13 of course. but it looks very funny :D r

  • @NoemSis

    The sun's reflection that's why.

  • boaring

  • Several degrees above freezing... Well, the Celsius scale is better and more practical than Fahrenheit. :)

  • pedigree-were for dogs XD

  • You can build an igloo with nothing but snow... And a big ass hacksaw lol

  • So is that like a coming of age for them? Building first igloo on ones own.

  • @ManuelRochaCR he definatlly said several, check your ears

  • lol this has alot of views for this

  • eskimonious :P

  • Where do Eskimos live?

  • @krystian1333 in iraq

  • @krystian1333 where its cold stupid!

  • nice

  • what do they eat for vegetables?

  • @pochazet Iceberg lettuce mainly. Also snow peas.

  • Temperature in Alaska can range from about −30 °C to −50 °C, so yeah noobs, several degrees above freezing would feel quite warm.

  • @Arnas7141 Keep in mind that Americans, (probably most of the repliers here), are used to the Fahrenheit scale. Several degrees above freezing doesn't mean nearly as much in Fahrenheit as it does in Celsius. Since the narrator didn't specify, they're probably assuming Fahrenheit without noticing the not so subtle hints that it isn't.

  • @MrJuliopolis It's still really cold. A comfortable temperature is around 20 degree Celcius, and considering 10-15 degrees is enough to consider turning on the heater and "several degrees" is around 7, I'd say the the amusement at the comment is still valid.

Then again, most people don't wear giant fur coats all the time, which probably adds several degrees on top of the warmth of the fire.

  • uh massive polar bears yards away at 1:17

  • LOLOLOL really warm! serveral degrees above freezing HAHAHA

  • whats the shirt hes wearing

  • My time from start to completion is down to two and a half hours. The older guys usually finish theirs in about 25-35 minutes. They been at it a lot longer than me. And that's for a small to medium size igloo, so, it takes about 40-50 minutes for a family sized igloo to be erected and ready.

  • 1:10 i helped my uncles son tighten the ropes on that same kind of sled in nunavut

  • Your supposed to smoothen it from the inside!

  • get some 100 mile long extentions cord connected to a power grid then get my computer tv and ps3 and im good =]

  • I miss that crunching sound of walking on snow.

  • GGOD what is that noise? it's so annoying X[

  • In africa, Igloos are made of mud!

  • @UbeefHooked In Russia, Igloo makes you!

  • @UbeefHooked and mexico

  • i flagged this vid because its misleading it says "how to build a igloo" fucking dumb

  • this is a really interesting documentary I remember seeing it on...some channel on tv

  • Bahaha this is an ancient skill, been passed down from generation to generation, then they show the guy cutting the snow wit a saw, cute.

  • lol, so all the arctic is Canadian territory? lol

  • with a fire it can be very warm inside... several degrees above freezing lol

  • hahaha

  • lmfao! what retards! hahahahahaha

  • @cleric252 ,wich is alot if you wear those clothes and it's -20 or less outside.

  • @cleric252 If you compare with outside it IS very warm!!

  • @cleric252

    better than -40 C

  • @cleric252 he said nothing about a fire being inside the igloo smart.

  • @cleric252 but in conditions like that the several degrees can save you're life.

  • @cleric252 Wikipedia indicates that a heat source (and an extra body) can bring the temperature up to 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • I build an iglo xD 2 meters height

  • woooow that is sooo good we made 1 to lok up our amazing igloo ; ) : )

  • lol "it can be really warm.......several degrees above freezing"

  • well compared to the outside...which is like 30 degrees below zero...it can be very satisfying
