Pardon my ignorance, but, does this device allow a computer that is not equiped to communicate with the internet to do so? I purchased an Apple computer (Ebay,) that works great but does not have Blue Ray, etc, so, unlike the other three units in our home I cannot use it to access the internet. Again, I apologize for the simplicity of my question. Thanks in advance, TR
@MurkTactics Most laptops can hook up to a wireless router without an adapter as they have a wifi card built in. Most desktops don't so yes, they're mainly built for desktop purposes
hey this his my question i live clouse to a interne cafe i ge wifi from there but i got to be close to my window with one of this can i get more conectibery so i can move arrown my house or this is only for computers that don;t have wireless conection!!!
@ alistaircohen i have 1394 net adapter connected and would like to connect my laptop to my main pc wld you please advise what i need to buy or install for the communication btwn the laptop and the pc i have windows xp on both-cheers
I'm thinking about getting one for my Wii. How far does it travel i only need it to go about 40 feet the one im getting is 802.11b/g idk what that means. Thanks for the help
im new to this shit , and i bought one of these usb adapters , i just realized you need to have a internet cable installed into the house for this to work , i just wasted my money cos i dont have a internet hard line cable installed lol i have the portable usb internet with the sim card lol fuck, i thought i could use this adapter with my internet usb simcard modem lol .
@Krainga No, the (wireless) router is the thing that sends out the signal (ie the transmitter). This video talks about how to receive that signal at your computer, through the USB adaptor. So to connect to the internet you will need both a router (transmitter) and some sort of adaptor (receiver).
i got a question. to get the router and the adaptor to combine with the modem, would they all have to match? like for example, the modem would be a comcast motorola, and the router and the adaptor would be of comcast product. right or not? please respond back asap. thanks!
ty u gave me an idea, the wifi connecter i want is out of stock but it has a holder meaning it should have an wire like the belkin to position my adaptor closer to my wii
That messing around with your log on on XP, It does that to support logging on to a Server. Like if you have one computer that hold all the accounts, and the other PC's login in to that PC over LAN. My Intel card driver asked me first tow.
i have something like that but its for the psp with the exact same EDUP driver, but the EDUP driver doesnt work for me, i have Windows XP. Please help me!
hey, i bought a d-link network searcher but i have a netgear wireless modem. my d - link doesnt get the net on my other desktop, do you know if it is because i have a netgear modem??
ok so ive got an xbox 360 thats connected wirelessly to my router already (different computer, good fast connection) but i got a new computer for xmas and need a wireless USB adapter because i want to play video games on my computer toooo? what would you rcommend?
well the first thing to do is to make absolutely sure that your new computer doesnt already have an in-built Wi Fi reciever, because if it does, you can save yourself some money. Many new laptops do, not so many desktops. If the box says anything about 'wi fi' you might be on to a winner.
Otherwise, my only recommendation is to weigh up cost against what you'll be using it for. For high performance web tasks, spend more cash, for email/web surfing, stick to cheaper.
I need some genuine, superb advice about internet! What if I want to establish a wireless connection only for watching vids/web surfing/chatting? I have a windows xp and am seeking a cheap spot to buy a usb wireless card (is it called that?), maybe the office depot near my house or an online retailer.
I would like to hear your best recommendation for making a wireless connection for my xp desktop! btw i am only putting the connection for the desktop alone; no sharing of connection involved.
Just buy the cheapest usb adapter you can find and make sure it is capable with your router....for example if your router is (b) a (g) card will not work with it.
Hi! I have an EDUP Wireless USB Adapter. (PSP Link for PSP/NDSL). And there is a program called EDUP WLan utilty. It just simply not run. What should i do? Need i some card or somewhat?
you only need one adaptor per device (provided they dont already have a wifi reciever built in), and by device i mean pc, psp, or whatever. So yes, one router will serve as many devices with adaptors as you need.
Haha now i've figured it that my router just blocking my psp so it can't get it's ip cause it is just detecting as suspicious network device. thanks I'm just confused why do others need wifimax even they already have a router. THANKS, by the way I've bought a brand new wifi stick for just $20 I'm amazed with it's power it could even penetrate our concrete ceiling and walls the distance was about 80m and signal was still above 60-70% doesn't even being disconnected
hey i gotta question that hasnt really cleared up for me after i have been doing alot of research. I have a 3 story house. and my router is in the basement. the only reason the router is in the basement is that the ps3 is in the basement and in order to do online we need it ther to keep it strong. my room is upstairs 2 stories above the router. i am getting a crappy signal and i am wondering if these usb network adapters will "strengthen" my connection from 1-5 bars.
you can only connect to your neighbours' networks if they are unprotected or if you know the passkey. Otherwise you need a router, or buying an adaptor will be pointless.
Wondering if my adapter is defective or if something is wrong with my PC? If so is the Belkin the best wireless adapter on the market? Maybe I should just hardwire my PC to the computer downstairs which has the Netgear wireless router! By the way is it possible to use the Belkin adapter with the Netgear router (mixing & matching brands)?
I have a Netgear WPN 111 adapter and (intermittently) the blue light stops flashing and I keep losing internet connection since day 1. Got an HP computer about a year old with pre-loaded windows vista. If I disconnect and reconnect the adapter, then connection will resume. But can only do this a few times till it locks up and cannot open netgear icon at desktop it just immediately closes! Then I have to manually shut down computer! Tried switching channels on the netgear router and everything!
That was very useful, i was gonna get one today but had reservations.. but you cleared them up! getting one tomorrow now ^_^ for 20 squid that netgear one will do me fine
I dont really understand the question. These are recievers. The ipod touch is a reciever in itself. So if you have a wireless router (the transmitter) already giving out an internet signal, your touch will pick it up itself, and you dont need any extra hardware to connect to the internet.
i have a bloody WG111T Netgear crap , IT IS VERY BAD, it disconnects nearly every single day, and for gaming it is EXTREMELY bad ( always d/c s. also it doesn't like XP, anyways.. i've used it for like 2 years.. i couldn't be stuffed changin it.. now i'll prob spend my sunday trying to find the "belkim" or wtaever..
Thanks for posting this video. It answered most of my questions. The questions that it did not answer are: do the wireless range extenders work with PCs that already have wireless capabilities built in, and if so, do they make permanent modifications or temporary? In most cases my PCs work just fine without the adapters. Thanks ... Michael
If your pc has an in-built wireless reciever, then buying an addition expensive external one might offer you slightly better range or speed. And its a temporary thing: you could just intruct your computer which one (the internal or external) it should recieve with and as soon as you disconnect it, you'd go back to the internal one automatically. However, if it were me I'd save my money and not bother buying anything extra, especially if you find that it normally works fine.If it aint broke....
I have to say, I wasn't really listening to what you were saying. If I had I'd probably understand what you were talking about. As it was, I just listened to your accent. Lovely.
Well i have a router downstairs it seems to work fine but it's old so i was just wondering if by getting the usb wireless adapter would make the signal and maybe prevent my ps3 from losing the connection?
if the router was losing connection regularl in the past then a new reciever won't improve that at all. a new reciever will just affect the distance from the router at which you can still connect to it.
So i play online gaming quite alot so i guess i will go with the belkin one but if i by that do i need a router because my router is broke but i dont have a telephone thing in my room so i'd have to put it downstairs and i frankly don't want to as ill be paying for it????
stealing internet lol i tried it two old ppl came up to me and said what are you doing in front of our house my friend was using the phone and his PSP me i was just acting stupid oh by the way nice video im gonna go for belkin i want to play online everyday lol thanks
You will need your own wireless router to transmit your wired internet signal round your house. Unless of course one of your neighbours has forgotten to password protect theirs. With the reciever you can pick up and use any WLAN (wireless local area network) signal provided you have the right password

Wow, lots of questions. As to the problems on your computer, I cant help you there without looking at it myself, get an IT savvy person to do so.
The Belkin is not necessarily the best on the market, it was just a good one to use for comparison purposes.
It is not a problem to use any brand of adaptor with any other brand of router, they all use the same signals to go by.
Finally, thank you very much for your compliments.
