The matrix recycles "souls", the guy in the room in the second movie said that the matrix has had to be remade before. Why don't you guys understand this? The matrix has been remade a number of times, the one in the movie is the final one, the one that escapes. Trinity has existed many times before and so has Neo, remember the oracle with her "in your next life" comment.

memories of what the world are actually like are given to us by the machines, so therefore, what the 20th century looks like is only based on what the machines knew.

so, for the machines to give this guy memories that were NOT of the 1990's period of the 20th century, itd be abit counter-productive, speacially when it comes to Him interacting with others in a 90s environ.

the surrounding is from the past and had been taken by the machines from human memories and adapted so that the human spirit accepts it this way and live into.therefore the all matrix selected memories and put humans who had the same together to live it , that's why Trinity was looking different in clothes and technology because the detective memory of life and Trinity one are different !

does noone else think this one was fucking redundant to plot and just retarded first off his fucking cat threw his hat to him lol second does this take place in the early 1900s im assuming from the format of his gun the way everyone is wearing a fidora and old school trench cots and his computer keys looked ancient but how can trinity be that old they never specified that the matrix ages in century quicker then the humans does in reality but i dont think thats the case

Well its certainly a Steampunk/Retrofuture setting, and I'm assuming its done because its cool. Its not set in the early 1900s the fact they have internet chatrooms being the give away. Also since the Matrix is fake, Trinity could jump into any period the Matrix used. Also in the Renaissance shorts pre-fall society is very retro, the robot butlers wearing bowler hats etc. maybe its set then, though I think its just a homage to noir films, the first film is a bit of a mystery thriller tbf.

The society in the Matrix looks to be a rehash of contemporary 20th century America. I do think that the entire planet is included in the Matrix as seen in the films, games and these animated shorts.

However there is stylistic license with each of these shorts in particular. Let's just say 30's retro was in at the time ; ). Who knows how culture and society advances differently in the Matrix then in the "real world's" past.

The Matrix reacts on the memories of its inhabitants before they got in! the timeline they wanted to live into, the clothes and everything was provided by their memories including food taste !you just have to know that they are all from the 20th century

the thing is that it happens in the 20th century but the matrix has a part of humans living in some timelines according to there memories, that's why trinity looks like someone from the 20th Century and the detective from 19th !to sum up , they both live in the 20th century but live it differently because of there memories before being into the matrix
