Nice. Got to play on on of these for a short time. Every time I hear it, I think of pirates lol. Just reminds me of the pirates drinking and singing parts of some movies.
You might try replacing those leather strips on the bellows (outside) of the bellows that you pump. I replaced mine and it made a world of difference. I did have a couple of mouse holes in the resevior that I patched with some rubber cement and some soft chamois type leather. Works great now. Don't have to pedal so much.
The leather strips are usually tacked on with small carpet tacks. Don't pull the leather tight or you get nasty sounds.
This is not an Organ grinder, this is a foot pump organ, fairly common. The keys that are moving without pressing them is due to old age. Organ grinders are like music boxes with a pattern tune, you don't play them just turn a handle etc...
who said it was an organ grinder? The keys that are "moving by themselves" are actually an Octave coupler feature of the organ. You can deactivate the coupler with a stop.
@PowersofKhan Correct. Octave couplers impress the upper-end of sound for the trebble clef, and the lower-end for the bass clef. They duplicate each note played either and octave higher or lower. It's a really neat mechanical system, I love watching it on mine (which needs some repair...)
werd up. I scored mine for free from a client who just wanted it gone. What year is yours? (should be in large print on the back. THere are several labels missing from mine as well. Perhaps, we are missing different ones and could deduce which are which, if we have the same model.
Well, i'm planning on getting the lid steamed so that i can sit flat again. then i'll just polish it up a bit here and there, I haven't yet found anything relating to the year.
I took the backpanels off mine and the date was stamped in block lettering largely across the back. mine needs bellow work, but plays if you tread hard enough!
its an octave function of the organ. Hence, you pull a certain drawbar for lower octaves to be played while actually keying a higher octave. Basically, just an accompianment tool.
I can't find this song anywere except here, what is the composer of this song ? :) might just try to take it by ear from what your playing, but would be nice to hear the original! Nice pump organ, i myself have a Isachsen & Renbjör pump organ here in norway, much fun to play, real grim!
well, actually, I composed this piece. My musical solo project is called CHelot. I could send you an mp3 of the recorded piece if you like (played on piano),but I will need an email address to do that, i think. Its a simple Em progession that resloves in C for the choruses.
If you want to find people who can restore or just repair your organ for you, or even if you just want to learn how to rebuild it yourself... there are two good groups you should join (or at least look at their website): The Reed Organ Society... and the Reed Organ Restoration group on Yahoo. Nice performance!
I really like how involved the musician must be with the instrument when playing the pump organ ~ it sure is a neat experience, watching it played. Something somewhat cirque about the way it sounds, so of course I love it. Plus, that's a good choice of song for the instrument and a very nice execution of the piece. Yay Drew!

I have. Waterloo, New York is a about a 2 hour drive from where I live.

I have seen literally hundreds of different pump/reed organs. I haven't seen any two that look alike either.

i cant find any other organs made by Waterloo organ Co, only a 19th century advertisiment for them. U heard of this company before?
