Thanks GEOF O'KEEFE for putting 10 years of effort, time, talent and devotion into making this dream of Randy's come to fruition...and it doesn't end here! Can't wait for the next album!!!
I am so fucking proud of the conversation going on here.
Finally, some people who know what they're talking about. One gets tired of the fools throwing around metal horns and drawing inverted crosses and pentagrams on their binders thinking it makes them br00tal and cool.
and I may just hate christians, still, I hold no grudges and I think some lyrics in christian music can be great, it's not so much the person, it's the churge, on either side. Occultists still seem to have a bit more intelegence than sheep.
@oOIntheKnowOo Wait, occultists who believe in Satan or other Gods?! Man the real meaning of that music is the freedom-pentagram is not the sign of the devil, but the personal freedom.
You can be in the occult and not be religious, or be into "alternative" religions and not be an occultist. It all depends.
The pentagram goes way back---it's definitely pre-Christian, and not "Satanic" per se; it became associated with Satanism---especially LaVeyan Satanism---only in the last several decades.
In Western occultism, the pentagram is used as protection as well as the four philosophical elements and "spirit." It's also used in banishings.
Exactly. The most misunderstood symbol by metal bands is the inverted cross. It's not a symbol of Anti-Christianity. In the eyes of the catholic church, it is a symbol of humility. St. Peter decided to be crucified upside-down because he didn't feel worthy to die the same way that Jesus did. So basically, bands that use the inverted cross are telling the church that they are not worthy of Jesus Christ...
@flyingv809 did. So basically, bands that use the inverted cross are telling the church that they are not worthy of Jesus Christ...
I won't say "not worthy" as much *defiant.* There are several bands that could not care less about Christianity. Or if you're Motley Crue, in the 80s you use it for shock value and selling records. They were more concerned about girls and drugs than deviltry, anyway. Lol.
@flyingv809 In a symbolic sense this is true, yet the intents of my shirts are never lost on the people that I see giving me looks of horror after glancing at one of them. The inverted cross, as many have said, has transformed from a sign of humility into a sign of defiance. Symbols are what people make of them.
@flyingv809 In a historic sense this is true; yet, the intention of many of my shirts that utilize this symbol is seldom lost on the people that view them. The inverted cross, as many have said, has transformed from a sign of humility into a sign of defiance. Symbols are what people make of them, after all.
@HORNSCRUSHED, why is that? I think it shows that metal has been anti-Christian since the very beginning. If you despise the lyrics then you're despising a large segment of metal history.
@CodyRicheson i despise the lyrics as im a christian,no offence was intended towards the band at all just a personal opinion, and most definatelly none towards metal either (in fact im in a death metal band myself) i still respect bands like deicide, darkthrone, dissection, etc etc etc as musicians and for what they do but i definatelly hate theire lyrical content but being a metal head for over 25 years now i love the genre especially unblack and christian death metal \m/
Indeed, it's called Traditional Doom Metal to be exact. You can find more of this type of music with Pentagram (which has members of Bedemon), Pagan Altar, Witchcraft, Saint Vitus, and Candlemass among other early Doom bands.
Yeah, but of those bands only Pentagram gets close to the dark atmosphere of Bedemon. Maybe its because of the bootleg quality of this? Anyway, this kicks ass!
I love Vol.4, but I see what you mean about Master of Reality. In fact, I just got Blood Ceremony's album because it has the latter's blatant influence, as well as Black Widow, Coven, and Pentagram.
i download the album and is fucking awesome. it blow my head!! you know, im from chile and here nobody knows this kind of bands. sometimes i think a im the only one. doom, stoner, sludge, nothing. its very sad. :(
It is sorta hard to explain, but this band didn't even release their first demo until the 80s. However, long before that, there were bootlegs of the band floating around. The band still had the master tapes, though they were never used for a release until 2005, when they were remastered and compiled on the album Child of Darkness.
Holy shit this is heavy

Christian metal CAN be good (Trouble, for instance) but it usually seems a bit too "preachy" and direct.

@sinkinglamb1994 Master of Reality is one of my all-time favorite albums. It's what got me into doom in the first place, back when I was a child.
Vol. 4 is good, but...it's inconsistent at times.
