I know art history as well. Curt Flood is a lost example of this process, and it was not taken well. As one artist to the next, I see he Is extremely talented, so I just longed to see someone of his skill use these oils like the masters, without this short cut. We as artist should allow such a charge.
It depends on what legit means today. It's 2011, the digital age. Also anything from scratch is legit if it's oils, pencil, or digital. Also you can add effects to "original" work and still save time. I've seen so called classically trained artist put a dot on a page and call it a masterpiece. So why not put up some REAL art, not a traced over a picture so I can see your true ability. You cant make a statement about being better without proof. No offense.
Love Wacom, I'm an artist myself. My issue is the tracing. Anyone could put tracing paper on in Painter and add a lot of color till it looks similar but more painted. If your making money, fine. But tracing, really? What are you 6 yrs old?
im a clasically trained artist, probably better than you, and tracing comes in handy when you want to enhance an image with effects. Why would you paint from scratch when you can save time? It depends on what effects you want. If you want a legit painting than dont paint digitally.
@rushaa123 - Photographers have been painting over their photos for over 160 years, using Painter is another way to do it and with repeatable results. Artists are still painting with oils over photos but the cost to have an artist to do that is way over what most customers will pay. And to have an artist paint a portrait is something only the super rich can afford.
