My father, a retired music education teacher and U.S. Army veteran thoroughly enjoyed the perspective that this film provided. I grew up with music and have always been interested in radio. The importance of a good ear and sense of rhythm is essential in accurate telegraphy. Morse code is a 'digital' language. Thank You.
@qwedfgtyujklop this video is what could be produced at its best to motivate troopers who could be discouraged at the idea of learning morse. My dad (76) saw this and had a blast. It corresponds to vintage apple pie humour.
I hope if you ever need to call for help im sure you will be heard either way. You commented that they used the wrong spacing and "ran the letters together" when they did it properly. Sorry to upset you by showing you that you were wrong. Maybe well meet on the air some day. TU AR SK .. DE KE7ZVJ
@toobroke2fight Dear Sir. I said he left no spacing. I do head copy and to my ears it was a badly sent SOS. I took your suggestion and now know the proper way to send SOS. All the CW training I used to pass my 20WPM, never mentioned the proper way to send SOS? Sorry to upset you with my comments and my low tolerance when, to my ears, the Code has been mangled. I do appreciate the added knowledge of CW I have gained here. 73 OM . .
and Mr Morse did not create the commonly used code. He made a number to stand for each word in common use. which took forever to code and de-code messages and never made it to common use! Mr. Vail make the dit dah code ( dot dash) but Morse held the honor for creating it.
Put India and Mike together and you get IM. For instant message...which we have now instead of morse code. lol. Still a cool system though. I wanna learn it someday.
@stoker20 Do a little research stoker20..... SOS is to be sent as one long character. There are many examples of this in common use by hams today! IMI sent with NO spaces between the letters means ? ( Question mark) but put three short dit spaces between each letter and it means I M I If you dont know what your talking about please dont comment! 73 TU AR SK .. (those are more examples of characters run together to create a diff meaning.
this is a good video for newcomers. having learned morse code in 1952 and using it in the usaf i can appreciate what this video can provide. smokybear147
Thanks to th posting of this 1956 gem, I am finally understanding Morse Code and transmitting technique ... in the age of Java script. The instructor's voice sound familiar from the era of instructional 16 mm films and I applaud the director/producer attempt to spark it up with a show biz touch or two. But it would be more than a decade before Monty Python would show us the true potential of giant hands and such. I love the piano player and the gun. Bergmanesque!

True. I wish the world would finally Mr. Ashley Vail, the man who REALLY invented "Morse" code.
Sam Morse, greedy old bastard that he was, didn't give Mr. Vail anything for his work.
So screw Mr. Morse! He was a painter, he should have stuck to what he was good at.
