  • Apart from Leo Brouwer himself, this is the best performance I've heard of Un Dia de Noviembre, it's played exactly as it was intended..... Amazing.

  • what a wonderful world of guitar classics :-P.

  • He plays quite well and I imagine we will see and hear much more from him in the coming years.

  • Close to perfection I'd say.

  • Delightful, maginificent, transported to another dimension!!!!! BRAVO, I would clap away but i'm at work so i'm giving you standing ovation in my head :))))) Excelente!

  • beatiful

  • niiiiiiice

  • So soulful! His foot just lifts him off his footstool everytime! XD

  • Dimitri,

You inspire me! You are an exceptional classical guitarist. The way you play Tarrega's works is magnificent. And the way you play this song is the best I have ever heard from anyone, ever. To get lessons from you would be a grand prize.

As I am an intermediate scholarship student here in California, it is good to know that there are guitarists such as you across the world, that play with such a style as I hope to one day soon! Thank you, I am sure it was some hard work.

  • ah.. beauty!

  • Hermosos matices

  • que buenos matices

  • i play this song different

  • i play this same song on my page. but it was too long for me to play all the way through so many times and for all the shows or request, so i changed it around. the video is on my page. this version i think was the best interpretation from this dimitri guy. kinda gave me my idea and i went farther. but still in this slower version, there's some parts that just seem hesitant and dont flow too easy. dig

  • Did he miss a repeat bar? I'm not critizicing, just observing. Perhaps he wanted to play it that way. I'm just curious about it.

  • just awesome.

  • sublime--------

  • omg!!!

  • Bravo!!

  • FORMIDABLE LA TECNICA DE EJECUCION.....FENOMENAL...

  • well this is how my guitar teacher plays it. at this speed to many people play this song slow. the song says to speed up and get louder look at the piece please

  • @UuDonKnowMe If everyone played music according to the specific performance notes, it would be pretty meaningless. Speed and interpretation is all subjective.

  • Que linda obra!!! que perfecta interpretación Dimitri...excelente BRAVO!!!

  • Absolutely wonderful!

    =))

  • well done great classic piece of a master

  • Very nice!! I'm working on this piece right now, and it's absolutely beautiful!! Well played Dimitri!!

  • It is a bit too fast, after all the song was meant to be a slower tempo song, but this speed is not bad, and the sound is very clear. Music like that sounds good only if you play it with your soul.

  • @EntilMattt1990 Ah yes. And, judging from your videos it's easy to see why you have issue with Dimitri's playing. This is a fantastic performance. Dimitri is a formidable guitarist. There are very few who can play at this level of expression.

  • Dimitri's tempi are pretty much the same as Leo Brower's. In fact, Brower plays the middle section even faster than Dimitri. Most people play it far to slowly and turn it into a dirge. This is very nice rendition, indeed. If anyone wants to hear Brower, himself, playing this piece, visit my page. I have upload an audio recording of him performing it. No-one can phrase it like Brower.

  • simply the best

  • tengo migraña y esto me esta relajando

  • Back when I was studying this piece, I was surprised at the indication on tempo -- too fast, I thought. To me, the piece benefits from a slower, more introspective tempo, but the playing here is still enjoyable. Anyway, I rarely like fast music of any kind...

  • I agree with turkmusik. Sounds like the tunes on speed.

  • Great musician though I might add. Excellent!

  • Lovely version, possibly one of the best on the tube, will become my study aid. Bravo.

  • la he visto tocar en directo por el mismo hoy en la herradura y es preciosa...

este hombre va a ser un grande!!

  • beautiful. :')

  • What a wonderful and lovely melody.

I love the way of playing your guitar.

    Excellent perfomance.

    I added to my favourites.

    5*****

  • You are my super!

  • SOLO HAY UNA DESCRIPCIÓN: PERFECTO

  • super!!!

  • perfecto

  • perfetc

  • excelent playing master dimitri !!

  • maravillosa la cancion es preciosa llega mucho!

  • the prettiest guitar melody ever!

  • you know, the first note plucked, strucked or bowed would tell you if the tone came from the heart. this is an example, no matter how high tech your record equipment are.

  • just what i wanted. perfect. thank you friend

  • toca la piesa muy limpia...pero vi un video donde Leo Brouwer la toca...que profundidad! Otra cosa en tema de sentimiento...

  • оо... Жесть!!! я слышал в живую - он играл)) да и я играл... так прикольно!!!

  • That's awesome! The notes are very clear and the feeling perfect! I thnink more sound at the begining it will make it more emotional

  • Este chico ganó en Coria el año 2004, creo. Esta interpretación es magnífica. En ningún momento decae . Sabe frasear, articular y utilizar agógica y dinámicas de forma magistral.

  • stop finding mistakes of the song, its to fast?

wtf is up with u turds

its perfect, any slower it will be meaningless

any faster would cause more screwed up notes

    that doesn't sound right

    perfectly performed by dimitri

  • Sometimes people have trouble dealing with perfection ;-) So they must find something to bring it down. Of course, there will always be those that prefer things a little different than what may be prescribed, but calling them "turds" might be a bit harsh. Dimitri could perform this at any tempo he likes and it would be great. He chooses to perform it at the the tempo the composer has used, and does so flawlessly.

  • k i guess calling them turds is a bit harsh.

but come on! its perfect why do they have to find flaws...

anyways thanks for uploading this great tune

100% 5 stars and in my faves =]

  • Hell, yea! This IS perfection.

  • @SoloGuitaristNet you gotta hear my version if you wanna talk about stepping away from perfection. hahaha

  • excelente interpretacion!!!...

  • I think this guy's great. I have his Naxos CD and his performance of Tedesco's "Cappriccio Diabolico" is the best I've heard, very dramatic and lovely!

  • A little fast for my liking but apart from that beautifully played. More importantly for me it's the first one I found where the second time bar has been played correctly. A lot to learn from this recording.

  • Superb - wish I could hear him live in Australia some day !!!

  • I saw Dimitri in Winnipeg 4 years ago, never felt the same way about classical guitar since. Sensational!

  • Bravo

  • I've just started to play this on my guitar. It's wonderfull song, but a little bit difficult to play.

This is a bit faster as I heard it. I think, slower it's better.

  • 'andante cantabile'

.. that is what the living composer wrote at the beginning :)

  • marvelous interpretation.

    he's so green/yellow!

  • Великолепный гитарист!

  • it's always good to hear guiterist with this sensibility and touch... he is really inside the tune... wish i could do that with every piece of music i play...

  • Damn right.

now thats the kind of player you wanna be like.

    Respect his authority kids !

  • o ithin it will be my sec target to lern after Sors B minor study

  • wow... that's the best version I ever heard of this masterpiece of brouwer

  • Beautiful...Great job! Excellent tone and control.

  • Bravo Dimitri ! I respect the people who posted comments saying it should be played differently but how interesting would a guitar piece be if it was played the same way by every performer ?

It worked just fine to me, thank you for posting .

  • (Continuing)

is just as delightful as it can be. Same with Romanza: most people play it a lot faster. But the delicacy of romance or love is expressed better in Xue-fei's sensitive version. Over all, I was born in one of the rainy dias de Noviembre, thus have a special attitude to it. I hope you and Dimitri will forgive my comment. All the best!

  • Of Course! Hey, one of the great things about this piece is how it does work at these differing tempos. Nostalgia is a curious thing isn't it?

  • He failed to sufficiently express the nostalgy of the piece. The previous comments saying the piece needs to be played slower are right. And with more expression. Not so much with body excercise but with the music... Just try to listen to the music without watching and you will know what I mean.

  • Funny that you would contradict the living composer.

  • In what?

  • This tempo is how Leo Brouwer performs it, himself.

He is most pleased with Dimitri's performance.

  • Well, I must respect that! Maybe I just belong to the class who like nostalgy really nostalgic and cheerful stuff really cheerful. I recognize that sometimes pieces sound better if performed different from how the composer meant it or how it is usually palyed. E.g. watch Barbosa-Lima's solo on Pernabuco's Sounds of the Bells or Xue-fei Yangs's Romanza de Amor. I don't know what Pernamuco would say (and I like his original version) but to me Barosa-Lima's version & performance (to be continued)

  • Beautiful!!! Love this interpretation... best on youtube... my opinion. Regards.

  • i think its fine just lose the cheesy background.

  • excelente me gusta mucho tu interpretacion , realmente muy buena muy dulce ,me encanto oirte :)

  • beautiful

  • Brilliant performance

  • you play it too fast...

  • i disagree, i think it's perfect.

  • yes...perfect technik =)

  • Man, I don't think Leo Brouwer gets the recognition he really deserves. He's pieces are just amazing!

  • he is very recognized, he is concidered the most important contemporary composer alive...speaking not only for guitar, also orquestra music and other instruments...he is even mentinoned in several enciclopedias as well as beethoven and mozart

  • I love Dimitri's playing. So lively and emotional. Beautiful piece of music and wonderful interpretation.

  • hi... i made my version too...

  • When music is published on paper,it become immortal so please don't speak in this way does somebody is alive yet or not, because his music is living no matter what happens! And when some melody is popular,it need to have a good interpretation which make some player to play it on his way,and kind of full comfort that he feel about the piece.I don't like his feeling about it and that's all.Maybe is better to leave this disscusion now,and let the people with good comments to write something.

  • Whether you like the performance or not is one thing. To say that the notes are not connected and that the playing is not relaxed, that is something entirely different. It is just plain wrong. So many people criticize another's playing without anything to show for their words. This performance pleases Leo Brouwer. That is enough. Please post your own performance as to how you "prefer to play" this piece. This would add merit to your critique of what you call Dimitri's less than "great playing."

  • Maybe you didn't understand me,it is not tightly connected with the tempo, but with the way of playing melody which is nervous!

I like to hear great connected notes inside of the melody which describes nice play, and I didn't feel it here, and that's what I have to say.I don't have need to fight for my opinion,I just like to put it here, because it makes me feel bad if I see comments like "perfect interpretation of a perfect piece,geniously..." and stuff,so that annoyed me and I had to put mine.

  • Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. It is just too bad that it differs so greatly from the living composer's. There is nothing nervous about Dimitri's playing or his interpretations. The melody is beautiful as it was intended. Ask Leo if you have any problem with it.

  • I don't like this intepretation,it is too nervous for this atmosphere called "Una dia di Noviembre"...I prefer to play it more relaxed and cool.I like romantic plays and I cannot imagine playing without it,but it is not necessary to involve it here, melody and chords are so simple and beautiful that You should leave them to do their job...Sorry,I just don't have this impression of great playing here

  • Perhaps you should check Brouwer's own performance tempo here on youtube prior to criticizing this one. This is the correct tempo and there is nothing nervous about it. One does not have to slow things down to play with feeling and emotion. A lot of people slow Barrios' "Julia Florida" down to a crawl and use so much rubato. They seem to ignore the fact that it is a Barcarola. I will not dismiss them as the results can still be very effective.

  • Well, it's nice played and all but when Brouwer plays it like that..

Well I rather prefer the interpretation of Peo Kindgren. It sounds more like autumn and winter.

Well I like it slower, you faster, c'est la vie ^^

    Keep on playing

  • just great :)

  • Wonderfully played.

By the way, please don't misunderstand, but isn't this a bit too fast?

I mean the performance is absolutely great but I would rather prefer this piece to be played slower, in order to emphasize the feeling.

  • That's the correct tempo

  • this man is a true artist....more than just a *virtuoso*. He really reminds me of the "old Masters" who also let the guitar sing, cry, shout.... simply just be a musical microcosmos of the emotions in our world.

    Bravo !

  • Прекрасная мелодия, и великолепное исполнение - завораживает и притягивает своей красотой.

  • you are playing the guitar with your heart

  • magnifique interprétation, la plus juste de celles que j'ai écoutées sur U tube. La deuxième partie surtout est particulièrement bien comprise

  • so passionate... thank you

  • absolutely exactly how leo brower probably felt when he wrote the piece..bravo man..

  • very clear and very smooth, what can I say? just wonderfull thaks and please more your performance

  • 1st class performance - very much adorable!

  • Fantastico, entusiasmante

  • poetic

  • Excuse me. but you are not human. It's a wonderful performance.

  • You're Really Fantastic!!

  • ownage

  • Wow.

    thats all I can say.

amazing tone amazing tempo amazing technique...wow.

  • Very good.

  • Beautiful indeed.

  • compare whit jorge

  • Jorge who?

  • you play more good than leo brower the composer this song...your tempo is the best....all classical guitaris in the world will agree whit me...u r the best..

  • He came to my school and rocked our music hall. He's an explosive player.

  • I have to agree, I play this piece at about 3/4 the speed of this player. But one of the beauties of this piece is that it sounds amazing slow or fast. So the interpretation is up to the player.

  • Awesome!!!

  • My comment was a reply to dustyw79, by the way.

  • I play it slower too...

But that third part is great on Dimitri´s tempo choise...

  • I like that piece very much!

but I play it a little bit slower...

well, everyone choose his own tempo - you're right fabjan2006

  • I used to study this thing from his record and i honestly think that this tempo is the best for this thing. But everyone choose his own tempo.

  • I learned this one from a Cuban guitarrist that knew Brouwer at that time, and this is similar to how he played it.

  • Is it wrong to want to lick the speakers while this is playing?

  • Haha.....I know just how you feel.

  • Great tone!

  • why is he green? this is russia. everybody is drank and green because of a big amount of unidentified vodka.

  • Interesting interpretation. I've never heard it played so fast and frantically before.

Also, I like how he tosses his head back on that high E in the second section.

  • You have your own interesting interpretation. There is nothing frantic about Dimitri. This is not so fast at all, and he is always in complete control.

  • great performance on a wonderful piece. So much heart warming

  • manifikoooooooooooooooo

  • Why is he green?

  • Illumination ;-)

  • This is probably the best video with this thing in youtube. I had a record that inspired me to learn this thing and now i recognize who was an artist on that unnamed record - Dmitri Illarionov

  • So beautiful.

  • Amazing performance, lovely piece.

  • This is one of my favorite tunes and Dimitri plays my favorite version of it. He has a couple of nice cds on the Naxos label; his all Brouwer cd is excellent.

  • excellent!, do you have more videos of dimitri? whole concert?

  • Dimitri is one of my favorite guitarists, and I'm so happy to finally see him play. Thank you for posting this.

  • You are most welcome! We had the pleasure of presenting him twice in concert and twice in masterclass. I am most certain we will do so again. More people need to be aware of this great artist.
