Delightful, maginificent, transported to another dimension!!!!! BRAVO, I would clap away but i'm at work so i'm giving you standing ovation in my head :))))) Excelente!
You inspire me! You are an exceptional classical guitarist. The way you play Tarrega's works is magnificent. And the way you play this song is the best I have ever heard from anyone, ever. To get lessons from you would be a grand prize.
As I am an intermediate scholarship student here in California, it is good to know that there are guitarists such as you across the world, that play with such a style as I hope to one day soon! Thank you, I am sure it was some hard work.
i play this same song on my page. but it was too long for me to play all the way through so many times and for all the shows or request, so i changed it around. the video is on my page. this version i think was the best interpretation from this dimitri guy. kinda gave me my idea and i went farther. but still in this slower version, there's some parts that just seem hesitant and dont flow too easy. dig
well this is how my guitar teacher plays it. at this speed to many people play this song slow. the song says to speed up and get louder look at the piece please
@UuDonKnowMe If everyone played music according to the specific performance notes, it would be pretty meaningless. Speed and interpretation is all subjective.
It is a bit too fast, after all the song was meant to be a slower tempo song, but this speed is not bad, and the sound is very clear. Music like that sounds good only if you play it with your soul.
@EntilMattt1990 Ah yes. And, judging from your videos it's easy to see why you have issue with Dimitri's playing. This is a fantastic performance. Dimitri is a formidable guitarist. There are very few who can play at this level of expression.
Dimitri's tempi are pretty much the same as Leo Brower's. In fact, Brower plays the middle section even faster than Dimitri. Most people play it far to slowly and turn it into a dirge. This is very nice rendition, indeed. If anyone wants to hear Brower, himself, playing this piece, visit my page. I have upload an audio recording of him performing it. No-one can phrase it like Brower.
Back when I was studying this piece, I was surprised at the indication on tempo -- too fast, I thought. To me, the piece benefits from a slower, more introspective tempo, but the playing here is still enjoyable. Anyway, I rarely like fast music of any kind...
you know, the first note plucked, strucked or bowed would tell you if the tone came from the heart. this is an example, no matter how high tech your record equipment are.
Este chico ganó en Coria el año 2004, creo. Esta interpretación es magnífica. En ningún momento decae . Sabe frasear, articular y utilizar agógica y dinámicas de forma magistral.
Sometimes people have trouble dealing with perfection ;-) So they must find something to bring it down. Of course, there will always be those that prefer things a little different than what may be prescribed, but calling them "turds" might be a bit harsh. Dimitri could perform this at any tempo he likes and it would be great. He chooses to perform it at the the tempo the composer has used, and does so flawlessly.
I think this guy's great. I have his Naxos CD and his performance of Tedesco's "Cappriccio Diabolico" is the best I've heard, very dramatic and lovely!
A little fast for my liking but apart from that beautifully played. More importantly for me it's the first one I found where the second time bar has been played correctly. A lot to learn from this recording.
it's always good to hear guiterist with this sensibility and touch... he is really inside the tune... wish i could do that with every piece of music i play...
Bravo Dimitri ! I respect the people who posted comments saying it should be played differently but how interesting would a guitar piece be if it was played the same way by every performer ?
It worked just fine to me, thank you for posting .
is just as delightful as it can be. Same with Romanza: most people play it a lot faster. But the delicacy of romance or love is expressed better in Xue-fei's sensitive version. Over all, I was born in one of the rainy dias de Noviembre, thus have a special attitude to it. I hope you and Dimitri will forgive my comment. All the best!
He failed to sufficiently express the nostalgy of the piece. The previous comments saying the piece needs to be played slower are right. And with more expression. Not so much with body excercise but with the music... Just try to listen to the music without watching and you will know what I mean.
Well, I must respect that! Maybe I just belong to the class who like nostalgy really nostalgic and cheerful stuff really cheerful. I recognize that sometimes pieces sound better if performed different from how the composer meant it or how it is usually palyed. E.g. watch Barbosa-Lima's solo on Pernabuco's Sounds of the Bells or Xue-fei Yangs's Romanza de Amor. I don't know what Pernamuco would say (and I like his original version) but to me Barosa-Lima's version & performance (to be continued)
he is very recognized, he is concidered the most important contemporary composer alive...speaking not only for guitar, also orquestra music and other instruments...he is even mentinoned in several enciclopedias as well as beethoven and mozart
When music is published on paper,it become immortal so please don't speak in this way does somebody is alive yet or not, because his music is living no matter what happens! And when some melody is popular,it need to have a good interpretation which make some player to play it on his way,and kind of full comfort that he feel about the piece.I don't like his feeling about it and that's all.Maybe is better to leave this disscusion now,and let the people with good comments to write something.
Whether you like the performance or not is one thing. To say that the notes are not connected and that the playing is not relaxed, that is something entirely different. It is just plain wrong. So many people criticize another's playing without anything to show for their words. This performance pleases Leo Brouwer. That is enough. Please post your own performance as to how you "prefer to play" this piece. This would add merit to your critique of what you call Dimitri's less than "great playing."
Maybe you didn't understand me,it is not tightly connected with the tempo, but with the way of playing melody which is nervous!
I like to hear great connected notes inside of the melody which describes nice play, and I didn't feel it here, and that's what I have to say.I don't have need to fight for my opinion,I just like to put it here, because it makes me feel bad if I see comments like "perfect interpretation of a perfect piece,geniously..." and stuff,so that annoyed me and I had to put mine.
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. It is just too bad that it differs so greatly from the living composer's. There is nothing nervous about Dimitri's playing or his interpretations. The melody is beautiful as it was intended. Ask Leo if you have any problem with it.
I don't like this intepretation,it is too nervous for this atmosphere called "Una dia di Noviembre"...I prefer to play it more relaxed and cool.I like romantic plays and I cannot imagine playing without it,but it is not necessary to involve it here, melody and chords are so simple and beautiful that You should leave them to do their job...Sorry,I just don't have this impression of great playing here
Perhaps you should check Brouwer's own performance tempo here on youtube prior to criticizing this one. This is the correct tempo and there is nothing nervous about it. One does not have to slow things down to play with feeling and emotion. A lot of people slow Barrios' "Julia Florida" down to a crawl and use so much rubato. They seem to ignore the fact that it is a Barcarola. I will not dismiss them as the results can still be very effective.
this man is a true artist....more than just a *virtuoso*. He really reminds me of the "old Masters" who also let the guitar sing, cry, shout.... simply just be a musical microcosmos of the emotions in our world.
you play more good than leo brower the composer this song...your tempo is the best....all classical guitaris in the world will agree whit me...u r the best..
I have to agree, I play this piece at about 3/4 the speed of this player. But one of the beauties of this piece is that it sounds amazing slow or fast. So the interpretation is up to the player.
You have your own interesting interpretation. There is nothing frantic about Dimitri. This is not so fast at all, and he is always in complete control.
This is probably the best video with this thing in youtube. I had a record that inspired me to learn this thing and now i recognize who was an artist on that unnamed record - Dmitri Illarionov

stop finding mistakes of the song, its to fast?
wtf is up with u turds
its perfect, any slower it will be meaningless
