  • Mr. Krok Wham, i TOLD you would be famous from the first day i ever heard you back on chimney rock. it was a sunny sunday afternoon, and i revved up the beemer for a little cruise and decided to go out the front gate. and as i stopped to let the gate open up so i could drive out on to the rock i rolled open the sunroof and said, "What is that sound! a fully formed Saxophone. it was like hearing Stanley Turrentine for the first time or Stan Getz, it was WOW! and i stopped the car and walked up .

  • GOD bless ! really great album !

  • You da man Kirk. Keep up da good work!

  • Yeah, I agree. He's the best. Check out his website. It's really coooool!! GOD BLESS YOU. I pray no more mean people write bad comments below any of Kirk's videos in Jesus' Name!!!

  • This interview video is excellent. Kirk Whalum looks great, his playing is wonderful. GOD BLESS YOU KIRK. You're great!!

  • YOU ARE ALL WRONG!!!! this is blasphemous to the saxophone his sound is bright and brittle he growls out every note like he needs to go to the bathroom really bad and cant play anything other than pentatonic scale wank! this guy needs to learn to play sax and you guys need to hear people like michael brecker and chris potter, this is saxophone gone britney spears why cant anyone see that???

  • Hey uneducated jackass....how about realizing that his style is not to be like Brecker and Potter. Morans like yourself act as though those two are the only guys around. Pentatonic scales? Who cares. Its soulful and millions like his ideas. Brecker was great with what he did, but he tried to carry an older style of jazz into a transitioning era, and hence, millions didn't understand what he played.

  • your a knob! there is nothing soulful about this at all! leave saxforme123 alone! kirk is a jackass with a completely restrained tone and no projection!!! this isnt jazz its money making sell out crap that requires no thought or skill. its all kenny g wank

  • First of all, I wasn't speaking to your cocksucking self. Second of all, no, you are right, Kirk's music isn't jazz. You typical stupid fucking jazz guys act like anything coming from a sax MUST be that 50s style traditional crap. Obviously you didn't read my comment to saxyforme, because you would have noticed I said his style isn't to be like "jazz." You "jazz" guys are the most closed minded people/musicians on the fucking planet and its absolutely DISGUSTING.

  • hahahahaha thanx jozzjo3 at least someone has some sense! his style doesnt have to be like brecker or potter but his sound needs to be less harsh and his approach is all growling blues licks that suck you people into thinking its soulful

  • His sound is what it is. People like you are too analytical judging people like Kirk, meanwhile he's making money playing things he loves. A player/singer/musician has to decide do I want to make money and play for people, or do I want to be broke, play in my bedroom, and show off for other musicians. Kirk could keep up with the straight ahead guys, he just doesn't care to. I don't understand why Brecker style lovers don't respect others, when guys like me like Kirk, but respect Brecker, etc

  • because what you think doesnt matter and kirk is wrong.

  • Oh I'm sorry. And what you think does matter? I suggest you grow up and acknowledge the fact that the musicians in the pop/top 40 world/genre, are there because they look good, or simply fucked someone to get signed. You guys are so fucking ignorant.

  • hahahah where in there did any one mention top 40 or sleeping with people. if anything thats how kirk got anywhere, fuckin pop sax gods! its funny how angry everyone gets over someone stirring a bit of shit! why cant u accept that not everyone likes it! u have to keep arguing! its pretty cute!

  • And NO, Kirk got there by being prepared, a great player, and a very faithful person as well, which never hurts anyone. The top 40 was just an analogy, since you seem to think the smooth jazz genre is all and ONLY about selling out and making money.

  • hehehehe c ya later cutie!

  • saxyforme123, you sound like you really know what you're talking about. Where can I pick up your CD? I'm a young sax player would like to learn an appreciation for jazz. What's your name and I'll be sure to support you as an artist?

  • There are certain musical styles that are expressive without being technical. It's not wrong to like James Brown over Kurt Elling. Kirk Whalum may or may not be able to play hard-bop like Eric Alexander but Eric probably cannot play with the same veracity and inflection that Kirk plays with. Same example w/Chris Potter-Maceo; Brecker-Koz; Albright-Bird. There's linear playing, avant-garde, swing, bop, pop and so on. Kirk Whalum definitely ranks amongst the best in his chosen style.

  • if you like that sorta thing thats kool, but kirk doesnt do it as well as ya'll give him credit for. all of the REAL sax players, brecker potter bird alexander can [play a ballad or an soul tune and melt you down alot better than this idiot!

  • watch?v=T9r4wK4FBiM

  • Nothing like sitting on the beach playing EUROPA in front of my home watching the sunset. Nothing stupid about that.

  • I am inspired by Kirk. I took up tenor sax after playing alto for 35 years because of his great sound. BTW the beach sax thing is OK with me. I would love to be able to walk on the beach with my MP3 playing Kirk's songs and play along with him.

  • seriously go back and listen to the greats parker and coltrane or adderley and Brecker or shorter of garre. if they dont inspire you then honestly just give up the saxophone...

  • whoever dont like Kirk Whalum doesnt like Music altogether......He's truly a legend. holding it down for us Memphians!!!! yeuh!

  • Love that wind.

  • Ok I'm not saying he's bad but its just retarded when he's walking on a beach playing his sax, that just looks stupid

  • The title of the song he's playing at that point is called "The Wave". Thats why he's on the beach

  • It looks stupid to you...

  • Hey, I love Kirk's music. But where in the heck is the music video"Love is a losing game"with Javetta Steele off of his Cache cd? Can't find it here or Myspace. CRAP!!! The only time seeing that video was on B E T. What's up?! Somebody got any answers?

  • Hey Kirk ~ Great album, great feel and great video. Hope you're doing well.

    Ben Barton

  • All I can say is, you're my favorite saxman!!I'll have to get that CD. Is " Steely By Starlight" on it? That was one of my favorites back when you played every Thursday night at Cody's in Houston.

    Much Love to Ya,

    Rob Holbert(Sax player)

    Dallas, Tezas
