  • What disappoints me a little is that this guy is more of a rapier fencer than Dooku was in the movies; they didn't take that aspect of Dooku's style nearly far enough.

  • IF you all will stop whining and crying about the "Slowness" of his technique, you can simply just go watch a damn fencing match.

  • Wow a school for virgins

  • ??? That wasn't Makashi!!! That was so slow and mechanical. Makashi is graceful and flowing but aggressive and powerful to.

  • ooooh my dork.....is "Lightsaber" ACTUALLY becoming its own martial art?!?!?!

  • @TonyPstunts Lightsaber forms were based on traditional sword forms, so, uh, I really don't know how to put this, but... IT ALWAYS WAS.

  • Watch the Clone Wars - Dooku vs Ventress & The Nightsisters. A beautiful display of Form II being used. A sight to behold. All of a sudden it ahs become my favourite style.

  • I have actually mastered this Form. Working on Soresu.

  • your kidding right ,don't tell me that there's an actual martial arts of lightsabers

  • @jordouellette I'm not telling you there is. I'm telling you people are trying to apply real life martial arts to Lightsabers. This was the work in progress of a sword form using elements of fencing, sabre and epee.

  • Just fyi for some previous comments. Saber is a form of fencing. I would upload a video but makashi is a more ...efficient form meaning boring to watch ( no flashy spins or flips ) but...its way more entertaining than foil or epee

  • do they have sparring here?

  • @arnoldarceo As a rule, NY Jedi does not do sparring.

  • Has noone finished a makashi form? I'm most interested in it because fencing is my preferred fighting style... Been searching youtube and google for a few days now but nothing that looks even remotely polished showing up. :( Guess for now theres nothing to do but wait and watch Dooku fight.

  • @NeoIsrafil To the best of my knowledge, no. Many attempts, but nothing anyone's willing to agree on in a manner like Forms I and III

  • @NeoIsrafil have you had any luck since this post? Because I am also trying to find good examples.

  • @faketeeth6 Afraid not man....as c15 says noone seems to agree on any full form.

  • @NeoIsrafil Yes, indeed! That's also what I've done. Lol, you'd be surprised at how much you can learn, just from the films, even if the sabers, in reality, are weightless in their hue/blade.

  • If people want to learn all these forms so bad, why don't they just take the REAL classes:

Form 1: Basic samurai sword shit

    Form 2: Fencing

Form 3: Aikido, master use of shield, and major endurance training

Form 4: Gymnastics, sprinting, and basketball

Form 5: Body building and anger management

    Form 6: Meditation and multitasking

Form 7: Hockey, Soccer, Boxing, Muay Thai, anything that hits hard

  • @anythingnew Actually, you reverse 5 and 7 and I'd agree with you :D

  • @anythingnew Very nice, I agree with you on most of them, how about this?

    Shii-Cho: Kendo

    Makashi: Fencing

Soresu: Aikido and all defense techniques from all possible martial artes

    Ataru: Capoeira

Shien/Djem So: Classic Boxing and Tae Kwon Do (since it is known to be rather rigid)

Niman: A blend of the above and multitasking

Juyo/Vaapad: Muay Thai, Krav Maga and yeah, anger managment

  • @illaipa

Agree with all, except for Tae Kwon Do. Form 5 doesn't kick that much. To get a good look at Form 5, look at Guts from Berserk lol.

  • I fence saber. I have no interest in staged combat.

  • Wow. Very nice attempt at saber fencing by a total novice.

  • @SorenityVids He's not a novice, sir. The sword form is a work in progress

  • Comment removed

  • @c15page As far as saber fencing is concerned, I am just a dabbler. I only have a couple of months of basic training from Justin Tausig.

  • @c15page am sorry, am a swordsman of the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-Ryu. And tis is not actual swords fight... stop your nerd imitation of sword fights... and come join a 600 years old REAL PATH OF THE SWORD

  • @jordouellette Personally, I prefer Goshin-Ryu Jiu Jitsu, where we take those who walk, as you say, THE REAL PATH OF THE SWORD, disarm them, and drag them down THE REAL PATH OF BEING CRIPPLED FOR LIFE IN SHAME AND DISHONOR. For every real practitioner I meet, there's another twat like you convinced of his superiorty. You shame your school's ancestry with your noise

  • @c15page I shame my shcool... first thing about disarming your opponent is not to underastimated his last second reflex and and thinkin that a swordsman only rely on his sword its foolishness... do you know Kyokushin or have you heard about Aikijujitsu... If one man managed to touch my sword... he'll loose is the use of his arms and his legs...

Armed or unarmed it make no difference to me... Underastiming your opponent, I can see you're still at the basics... STAY THERE YOU FOOL !!!

  • @jordouellette Now that I've expressed myself as you have, let me state something. The man you see is a martial artist in an attempt to create a SWORD FORM (not fight, as you so pointed out). The fact that it's for a fictional weapon means nothing in the long run, it's the tool we use in our craft as performers. You may not get it, or like it, but do not think to presume you are high enough to JUDGE IT.

  • @c15page ok I agree with you it's rather nice and am a big fan of duel in star wars... sorry if to me It seems a little weird to me that some people would say and expert of the makashi ways, when I ask what's your martial art background. to me it's not martial arts, it'S Fan arts. wich to me is very ok... hey anyone , at somepoints in there life wants to be a jedi (me... damn that's would be awesome) so I think it's not a martial art but an awesome display of fan art, but that's only my opinion

  • @jordouellette You're right, it's not a martial art. It's a translation of real life Martial Arts into a Fictional One. Real Life to give Context to the Illusory

  • @c15page there's no context for 360 degrees edge

  • @SorenityVids Do some research before you speak. It's a lightsaber form taking elements of fencing and saber.

  • Is this the full form or are there others to Makashi? I would like to see more. Being a fencer this one is my favorite of the forms.

  • @NeenjaMonkey This was a work in progress video. I will post the completed version once it's available

  • i just think its strange that there are classes to learn how to fight with a lightsaber

  • @corbandioxide Well, I think it was just a matter of time. Especially when LucasArts began codifying Lightsabers into their own specific combat. It was just begging for the geeks to try and match it

  • @c15page geeks trying to do it i understand. but these people are meeting for a class. somebody had to rent out the dance studio theyre in a couple days a week and tell their landlord they were going to teach lightsaber fighting. and then they advertised it. thats just strange

  • Some good moves, but I don't see it as being a derivative of Makashi. Very stiff, and not elegant, like the style is known for. Also, the thrusts/jabs are very pronounced.

Nevertheless, it is some good work, indeed. I'd like to spar with you some time, for sure. A great time would be had.

  • Makashi... close to the stance, however the beam is pointed down at a angle, also you dont thrust towards people you use 'elegant' flicks of the wrists

  • I for one enjoyed it. Me and my friends are attempting our own versions of lightsaber combat. We have very minimal sword training and we're doing our best with very little money :( May I ask, how did you create that sword? I really couldn't figure out how to create te curved handle out of cheap materials, and the Makashi style fits the best with my limited experience in fencing :)

  • Very Nicely done master Ecaris, I do have one question however. just going off of the written descriptions of Makashi would it be proper to lunge like that? just from what I can tell it looks like it creates to many openings, if one were to lose their balance especially, Im not making a negative critique I just wanted to know if it is a good idea to have all the lunging.

  • arguing in the internet is a lot like the special olympics. even if you win, you're still retarded.

  • @burnikshrapnel THANK YOU

  • Thanks all. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. BTW thanks Craig for posting class videos. Even if I can't be there, I can somewhat feel like part of the group by seeing everyone's work.

  • With regard to the "fluidity" remarks, I imagine he was intentionally pausing between movements so people learning this could pick up the strikes easier... then once you have the basic pattern figured out, you add fluidity to it.

  • couldn't agree more with komunista94

  • LOL! makashi was descibed as smooth, fluid, and graceful. that demo looked like a paramilitary drill performed by a dancer with no sense of beat.

  • @komunista94 Ecaris did/does professional ballet. Also, this is WIP. You can't be perfect right off the bat. Think about things like that, before you resort to being childish with your wasteful insults.

  • @K1dP5ycho who cares about his credentials? he could be mikhail baryshnikov for all i care. and that wasn't a ballet demo. he did his thing and i gave my opinion of it. not as tasteful as how you might do it but still my opinion nonetheless. period. i was reacting to the video. and im sorry if hurt your hero-worship for this guy but if you dont like negative comments like that then i suggest you talk to whoever posted this and have this video removed from a very public entity like youtube.

  • @komunista94 I'm laughing at your attempt to make an arguement with me. I wasn't offended by your opinion, I was just offended by your insult. Encouragement and advice is the best way to critique one's work. All you've accomplished is make yourself look like the bad guy in our so-called "discussion".

  • @K1dP5ycho whoever said i was "critiquing" it?=) and secondly, you're the one who started this so-called "discussion" and argument with me. a simple thumbs down or flagging would have sufficed but you just cant let go, can you? are you the oic of this academy of something? to get all riled up at something as trivial as the comments of someone you don't even know? now, i'm laughing.=)

ps. "bad guy?" lol! that's cute.

  • @komunista94 While everyone is entitled to their opinion, there is a certain level of respect. How you initially posted sounds disrespectful. Whether this was your intent, it's certainly rubbed that way. This form is a work in progress developed by my friend who is trained in ballet and dance, it is meant to teach basic movements of the form he is developing. If you think it needs work, say what, don't laugh and take a jab

  • @komunista94 However base on my experience it had elements of fencing and saber. Which is from what i understand is how the style should be used. So while it may not be as nice to look at stage wise as other forms. It has the basics of the style down.

  • @komunista94 sooo true dude... I was like expecting something more fluid and elegant too...

  • And also the grip on the saber is incorrect. the user's thumb is supposed to be pointing at the direction of the blade. and his grip seemed very tight, which reflects djem so once again. his grip should loosen up a bit to allow more range and fluidity

  • i respectfully disagree. The form of makashi is a form of fluidity and power, what i see is djen so. the salutes were off by a little and the user wasn't really moving in fluid motion. The makashi user may or may not use 1 or 2 hands to grip the saber but i see that he deliberately kept his left arm away. i could spot several parries that 2 arms would have been useful.

  • Fucking perfect.
