The main reason why western countries encourage tibet to independ is because theres discovered rich resources in tibet and they want to trade with tibet without china's interference. no, we haven't here any Chinese TV, we have Russian TV and i'm not sure every TV of every goverment has objective appraisal of news, but i know one thing - all our history was strong contries and weak countries, strong people and weak people - weak always lose, strong always win: this is nature of humans - small territory always want to be freedom, but what's problem? take your weapons and prove you have right to be freedom!

here in Russia we have problem territories too - every big country has it, but if let them to live separately then chaos begins, country has power while has unity.
Let USA take out his military influence from Middle East and give to all us proofs: USA hasn't any military ambitions and USA is peaceful country, then i think China will follows American example and gives freedom to Tibetians, otherwise China get risk to be political outsider

I am a Taiwanese, and not a mainland Chinese. But Dai-Lai is a political person, no doubt about it. He is more or less related to the Tibet riot prior to Peking Olympics, though he said that he supports the Olympic. But in his mind, he does want to use this opportunity to make his issue. If you see him as pure as water, then you do not understand how complicated he is in his mind. I attended his gathering in Boston. I though he is a pure Monk. Actually not, I find he blend his political message.

Not all chinese are good in english either, their english sucks (dont mean to be rude). Are you saying that tibetans are incapable of learning chinese? Anyway, this is a very colonialist and racist way of thinking, please think more about it. There are many tibetans who speak excellent tibetan, chinese and english. The increasing amount of chinese settlers in tibet is sign of colonialism. Increased military in Tibet is another sign. Why is Tibet closed to journalists,while rest of China is open?

lastly, nobody will force anyone to stop learning, Chinese will be the worlds most important language and tibetans will continue to excel in it, but our children need to first learn tibetan, just like you learn chinese first, then you learn english. It is too difficult for small children to start learning math and science in a foreign language. I don't think tibetans are so economic dependent as you say because alot of the subsidies from central gov't are going to chinese settlers in tibet.

secondly, Tibetan democratically elect their own prime minister, Dalai Lama is more of an ambassador of Tibet, like the Thailand king. Tibetans will most likely change their plan soon. You have to ask yourself, how can we solve this? Continue to blame Dalai Lama for separatism? Or maybe changed the failed chinese government policy in Tibet.

At first Tibet was a part of China from Yuan Dynasty, then because of all sorts of tribal problems, the Chinese withdrew
Then Tibet returned in Qing Dynasty, but then at the end of Qing Dynasty Europeans invaded and tried to colonise China, China was so occupied Tibet slipped away
And rightfully, when the current government of China was set up, we reclaimed Tibet as one of our province, anything wrong?!

Yes, the way you treat tibetans is very bad. You promised autonomy, but it was just a trick, Tibet is ruled with iron hand from Beijing. Not any freedom. Chinese settlers in Tibet enjoy government subsidies while Tibetans are marginalized. Tibetans are unhappy. Everything you do in Tibet is wrong policy, and it will lead to disaster if you dont open your colonialist eyes. In 1950, there was almost NO chinese in Tibet. Colonialist system will never survive!

UN General Assembly Resolution 1723 from 1961 affirmed that Tibetan right to self-determination had been violated by Chinese. Please learn world history.
Scotland have autonomy on several issues, there are plans for independence referendum in 2010. It is not a "minority", but many scottish people who want independence, especially among younger people. Please learn about British brutal colonialism in Ireland and Scotland.

A Tibetan who has managed to get out of Tibet can probably tell you how difficult it is for them to get out of Tibet better than anyone. And they can talk freely in my country, while in Tibet they may not have freedom of speech.

This film short is pointless, Chine may have its faults in the eyes of the western world but it is in no way comparative with the brutality and ideology of the Nazi regime. To say it does is stupid and narrow minded. As for Tibet, maybe China should possibly give it independence but to avoid be hypocritical what about Northern Ireland and Great Britian. I am british and I'd hate to see it return to the Irish, it has been part of my history since I was born so I cannot demand the same of China

The main reason why western countries encourage tibet to independ is because theres discovered rich resources in tibet and they want to trade with tibet without china's interference. The human rights thing is just a cover or simply an excuse for it. Also tibet has been part of china for a very long time and theres no reason for them to independ. If tibet do become independent, more conflict and problem will arise and Tibet will become another developing country who rely on UN's help. WHY BOTHER?

Tibet has always been a part of china. First off, China is not america so dont try to apply american politics to China right away.
Second, if China were to pull the backing off of Tibetan minorities, Tibet would literally crumble. Explain how Tibet, a "country" of monks, could actually kill for their own benefit? True, China has some harshness to its public rights and all, but comparing the fantastic event of 2008 to Nazi Germany Olympics is quite, as we say, st00pid.
