Does age really matter with music? I'm 13, I discovered Opeth when I was 12. They are one of my biggest influences and favorite bands, alongside Dream Theater, Katatonia, Nightwish, Rush, The Who, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, Metallica, Porcupine Tree, etc... I don't limit myself to just "BR00TAL METHALLL!!" music, but it is my favorite genre, and certainly the most eclectic and creative genre of music available today, in my opinion. Young people love music too, but does it really matter?
@IcoTheBest i can't help but disagree with you on Heritage. All of Opeths albums are magnificent, given the time and thought spent into composing such awesome music. Heritage is just a change in style for them, and quite honestly i think this is something different for them to play and for the fans to enjoy. yeah its not like their old stuff, but its still great in the composition. I will back them up as any other true fan for whatever they decide to play They're phenomenal musicians
@DJMittag I fully agree with your statement. One thing that i dont understand from most people that complain on Heritage is that Opeth did a clean album before as you surely know which is Damnation. For me these two are the best albums where the vocals are clean in progressive metal. Indeed, Heritage is much more classic rock oriented blended with the known style of Opeth. People should stop be close-minded, thats why we have bad music like Foo Fighters or Sum41 lol.
@willidub1 I agree with you totally, some people are rather strange when bands decide to try something different. Honestly thats what makes Opeth extraordinary, they're in depth with so many styles and they kick ass in everything. They also play what they feel like instead of what the demand is. Its not just one song thats a hit, its the entire fucking album! That is why Opeth is who they are.
One of their most evocative songs yet, Akerfeldt has the voice of an angel.. beautiful and terrifying. Opeth has such a fantastic ability to wield such power into their music. They truly are among the best for a reason.
This is one of Opeth's most depressive song along with April Ethereal and Demon Of The Fall. At 3:25 when he starts growling, it sounds like entering November is the most tragic thing happening.
Great song!!! I don't think it's depressing, but it is deep, and does have a dark overtone. I find Opeth to be great to listen to when I am depressed; but I find their music to be very gripping and powerful.
does anyone else think this song is depressing? i mean, it's a fucking great song, it has such a deep emotion that it gives of a feeling of extreme sadness. Opeth is AMAZING
i hate it how youtube doesn't show particular songs in other countries. i'm watching this masterpiece in holland but my friend in germany get's the "not available in your country" message.. does that suck or what? i guess youtube leaves me no choice in downloading this and sending it by mail
Sure is a good thing youtube lengthened the time allowed for video's or many Opeth songs would have to be chopped up. And that is a sacrilege. Hail Opeth
Not sure if I can quite get into the Death Metal side of this band, but holy Jesus, the instrumentation is incredible. Especially the part at 5:45 has made me looking for this song for years after I heard it in a level for Action Half-Life
songwriters that have managed to escape the immature and cliche'd confines of conventional metal genres and break into something....higher....Bravo opeth, Bravo
ranclaassen, you only know that because you have been there..WE ALL HAVE. they will grow out of it, til then keep on rockin dat master of puppets \../
woah ive heard opeth songs before but i never really got into them. But this song is beautiful. I always did like opeths way with an acoustic guitar. Amazing
@passgodtpaadegselv my favourites by Opeth...? For harmonic vocals it would be Patterns in the Ivy (2), for the hard stuff it would be either Bleak or Masters Apprentice, and for guitar work I would be voting for Harvest... Yourself?
@Myxotruck666 That's really cool. I'll agree on Patters In The Ivy 2, and I'd like to add Burden. Hard stuff: This one, Deliverance and The Moor. The song with the best guitar work would be Harlequin Forest maybe.
Now that I think about it, I can actually add Dirge For November to all of those groups...
@Myxotruck666 the lyrics are faulty but i love the transitions between soft melodic, to heavy demonic.. and back to make one feel like theres always 2 sides to a song as if perhaps a comparison to a person
Opeth is a Progressive Death Metal/Progressive Rock band with hints of Doom Metal, Jazz Music, Fok Music, etc. Now stop whinning about music genres and enjoy one of the greatest bands in the world.
I'm getting annoyed at all my friends who seem to think 'metalcore' is synonymous with 'metal'. This song is brilliant, one of the best I've ever listened to, but none of my friends think this is 'metal'. Ah well, eventually I'll make friends with someone who likes this stuff...
@Hyronious Sit your friends down with Deliverance. If they are still being fags by the end of the 13 minutes of pure metal. Get new friends, cause they are obviously Slipknot / linken park fags.
@BrodieLewin16 all my friends have a similar taste in music...i have found that people who listen to garbage like kesha, lady gaga, country, etc are people i dont wanna be friends with.
Yeah, I feel you. There's an acoustic guitars, that can't be metal!!! I get loads of shit because I don't like Bring Me the Horizon or that kind of crap. I think this is a lot more heavy and it's E standard! :P
@Hyronious Tell 'em that there's this certain band called Judas Priest. This particular band helped lay the groundwork for what would become metal as we know it today, and they used acoustic guitars and melodic vocals all the time. If that doesn't convince 'em, tell 'em that there's a band called Dream Theater who make music that's heavy as Hell (albeit not "extreme") that would kick metalcore's ass, and they use acoustic guitars and melodic vocals all the time!
the 5 people who disliked this video where 15 year old teenagers who think they're "metal" and who only listen to 15 seconds of this song before disliking and go back in search for some real "metal" they can show to their "metal" friends
@ranclaassen 15 year old who likes Opeth reporting in.A good amount of teenagers actually like Opeth, most over 15 however. you are probably right about the teenagers who thing they are "metal" but they are probably even younger.
@acdcislaw Sorry, i meant no insult, of course there are teenagers who like Opeth not only because it is 'metal'and I am glad there are. but I was talking about a specific kind of teenagers ;)
Technically Opeth is not actually "metal" music but rather classified as "Progressive Deathmetal",the reason being is 1stly their music is progressive as it incorporates a wide range of musical tastes into their overall sound(which include Jazz ,Ambient,Blues ,Folk etc...),2ndly they have acoustic interludes in the musical structure of a lot of their songs which isn't typical of metal bands,3rdly the lyrics to their songs revolve around death-all 3 facets make it difficult to categorize them.
@0Concept14 100% true my friend. Opeth is really hard to categorize. Therefore I usually stick with 'Opeth-Metal'. There is really no band like Opeth and they are and always will be my favorite band!
The third aspect is irrelevant. In the modern day you can make write death metal lyrics about just about anything you want. Of course a rather serious tone is best fit for this kind of music, and moaning about how your girlfriend dumped you would make it lean more towards deathcore :P
@SaturnineXTS wasn't that the point of my arms your hearse album? guys die, expect girlfriend to stay with him after he's dead but she dumped him for another dude and he got pissed? jk :P
@ranclaassen normally i hate people who leave comments about dislikes and likes cause it;s pointless and stupid, but i actually could not stop laughing at this, it's so true, these "15 years olds" are fucking everywhere in our society
@ranclaassen im 15 and i have been listeing to prog for a pretty long fkn time. in fact i probably wont listen to most song that are under 4 minutes. Not enough length to express something out of it. But i see your point.
@ranclaassen Hey man, I'm 15 and this is one of my favorite songs. Why does it always have to be about age with you guys? We're perfectly capable of enjoying this brilliant music just as well as you or any other old ass. Those dislikers could have easily been people from older generations, your generation perhaps. And whether they were 15 or 50 year old, why do you care? You are a troll, Sir. The kind of troll who thinks their trolling is justifiable simply because you like the video. It is not.
I agree completely. But I also don't think that age is a good indicator of intelligence, whatever the intellectual maturity arguments people are willing to make.
@prettyboy629 and you believe that an older person trolling the internet is more mature than the 15 year old who quite eloquently stated and defended his position? hardly.
@strawbarry3 Well said mate. I'm 22 and I can only feel proud of younger generations doing the right thing by liking this music, it speaks of yourselves and it makes me feel better, especially when I look around where I live and I see teens like you wasting themselves, bit**ing around and even taking drugs. You got my respect.
i always see this song as personal since my birthday is on the 10th of november, and its around this time i start to think about what the fuck i am doing with myself.
5 people were listening to this via smart phone and were STILL blown away so much that they crashed(non-fatally) and were thus unable to hit the like button
@Immortal4261 Dude, Maidens are legend, Opeth is my favorite band, but its parallel to Iron maiden, cuz.....there is something about Maiden that will never be beaten.
Metallica, oh well, I dont rly lisen to them that much even tho I respect their music, they died long time ago! good thing that their last album was kinda good but other than that...
@Immortal4261 I don't really like AA. Opeth is untouchable in my opinion. Nevermore is the only band I can think of that comes close. Agalloch and Porcupine Tree are also good.
There is simply no other band in the world that is like Opeth. Their music doesn't fit into any known genre. The way Mikael transitions from such beautiful vocals to such savage roaring (it can't really be described as anything else) is nothing short of magical. This song sends chills down my spine
Ironically, when I first heard Opeth (Ghost Reveries) I couldn't get into it at all. Years later after that time, I heard Still Life, and became completely enthralled with their music. Ghost Reveries is still my least favourite of theirs, and Still Life is still my favourite, but I grew to appreciate every album of theirs immensely. Cannot comprehend why I didn't like them to begin with.
@thealchemist4603 The first Opeth song I ever heard was Black Rose Immortal. That is one hell of an epic. and the rest of Morningrise. And Still Life... all in the same day. I've loved them ever since. I saw them in 2006 in New Zealand, and that's still one of my favourite shows ever. Demon of the Fall live... HOLY SHIT! Opeth are one of the greatest bands ever. This song Dirge For November is just fuckin amazing.
Many Opeth songs feel like bleach washing through my nerves, and it cheers me up. This one calms me down like nothing else. Many people find it depressing, many people are comfy in their pink sugarcoated abomination they call life.
Every time I listen to Opeth, a question crosses my mind: "Why is Opeth so good?". I guess i'll never know because there are too many reasons to list why they are.
This is quite possibly my favourite song ever. It brings me through so many different strong emotions. It's so beautiful. I haven't heard music until I heard opeth.
You must appreciate the complexity and the difficulty of this music. It truly is some of the best music there is. So deep, so wonderful, magic. If only i could play it... People that don't like it most likely don't play an instrument and don't understand what this music really IS.
Does age really matter with music? I'm 13, I discovered Opeth when I was 12. They are one of my biggest influences and favorite bands, alongside Dream Theater, Katatonia, Nightwish, Rush, The Who, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, Metallica, Porcupine Tree, etc... i beleive that this and stuff like amon amarth are the modern legends,
but because its heavier, DEEPER, people will be stuck to iron maiden and mettalica like bubble gum,
opeth is actually better but not as pure. So arise ye new metal bands of the future
seeming masters of truly sounding heaviness.
Immortal4261 1 year ago 2
@Immortal4261 Dude, Maidens are legend, Opeth is my favorite band, but its parallel to Iron maiden, cuz.....there is something about Maiden that will never be beaten.
Metallica, oh well, I dont rly lisen to them that much even tho I respect their music, they died long time ago! good thing that their last album was kinda good but other than that...
UP THE IRON!
GO OPETH!

@Immortal4261 I like them both and Opeth.
mctworm 1 year ago
@Immortal4261 I don't really like AA. Opeth is untouchable in my opinion. Nevermore is the only band I can think of that comes close. Agalloch and Porcupine Tree are also good.

There is simply no other band in the world that is like Opeth. Their music doesn't fit into any known genre. The way Mikael transitions from such beautiful vocals to such savage roaring (it can't really be described as anything else) is nothing short of magical. This song sends chills down my spine
CrippledandBroken66 1 year ago
Hey, anyone know a band better than Opeth? (That's rhetorical, of course you don't- no one does). THEY'RE UN-FUKIN-BELIEVABLE

Cannot comprehend why I didn't like them to begin with.
thealchemist4603 1 year ago

There are somethings in life, where we can find beauty and art in the grotesque, Opeth is a example:..it will continue

Every time I listen to Opeth, a question crosses my mind: "Why is Opeth so good?". I guess i'll never know because there are too many reasons to list why they are.

You must appreciate the complexity and the difficulty of this music. It truly is some of the best music there is. So deep, so wonderful, magic. If only i could play it... People that don't like it most likely don't play an instrument and don't understand what this music really IS.
