Simply wonderful. Ausgezichnet! It more than makes up for some of the kitschy songs Wiedl sang (ex. Jodelexpress & Country Jodler). Diese Lied ist sehr classisch.
This took Blace at the Grand Opening of the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth Michigan USA. Wonderful place, I travel there once a year. This video sparks so many memories.

Franzi Lang can do more yodel-tricks than Angela or Margret Almer, but he is no Frank Sinatra. Overall, Angela has a significantly better voice, and in my opinion, is a better song interpreter. I enjoyed some of the Franzi videos and he is a very good comedienne, reminding me a little of Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy.
Nice to see such a dignified performance of a great song. No arm waving, standing perfectly still, yet the expressiveness of her face and subtle head movements convey the full emotional range of the music.

I also understand what you say about singing the old songs for centuries - but I don't think it would be boring.... there are amazing messages in some of the oldies - just like there are "boring" messages in some of the new songs. I just believe that music is meant to be harmonious.... old / new.... whatever. And I believe that Angela Wiedl has an incredible voice and talent.
I think the point here is that this is beautiful music..... whether it may be "authentic" folk music or not. It's lovely, and she's got a lovely voice. I also think that Erzherzog Johann wouldn't turn over in their grave - rather they'd 'get' the newer versions of music.

My father is from Bavaria and very often wandered the mountains from Fuessen to where the 'Enns flows into the valley'. After living in Bavaria myself, only then did I understand how special this song is to not only Austrians and Bavarians, but to anyone who cherishes the history and culture of the Alpine regions. Hearing Angela's touching rendition brought tears to my eyes, because I know there is such a place as beautiful as Angela and her heavenly voice.
