@ThumbingRally Awesome! I love dbx!! I have a dbx376 Tube pre channel strip. Compressor/3band Eq/De-esser/A-D convertor. Sounds bad ass. You should try it out if you haven't already. Swapped out the standard tube with a grove tube. Not the best tube but the swap mad a huge difference. Also try the Studio Project VTB1 tube pre. AMAZING and only about $180. I own one and swapped the tube with a bad ass Russian tube. Great voice btw!
I have a 58 and a Beta 57. I use them only on guitar cabs. Good mics, but neither suits my voice. SM58: More grit, more lows. Basically an SM57 with a mesh pop filter, marginally less peaky to my ears in the high mids. It captures the grunt. The Beta 57A is cleaned-up, with a bit more extension in the highs. Increased clarity is obvious in this vid. It can be brittle, but I like it when I'm going for more definition and less fur. I liked it best on this shootout. Was not impressed w/ the D5.
He sounds like he's suffering with anal retention.

Nice Job, loved the music. Showed me exactly what I would want to hear regarding the side-by-side of the mics. Keep on singing and playing.

Big fan of shure though I think the D5 sounds less muddy. Did you use a solid state pre? If so, what type?
