  • Wow that girl is a great actor !

  • This vid would have more credibility if you would show the food after it is cooked.

  • showering in the river.....

    anyways....

4 hours?!? good lord you have to make dinner while you're eating lunch, & hope the sun stays out..... this is better suited for arizona

  • They don't even show the end result.

  • what happens when you want food at NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @micahc08 Well, then you are out of luck.

What happens when a power outage occurs?

  • CHICKEN MASSAAAALLLAAA

  • Next time, 1) actually show and explain the thing you are talking about, 2) don't force a child to recite lame "spontaneous" dialog, 3) and think beforehand about the concept of showering in a stream. Good otherwise.

  • Kevin, call me, looks great, lets talk industrial apps. Trying to think out of the box. Been looking at tons of ideas in this realm. Thanks

  • Solar ovens are a great way to connect back to nature! And to people around the world that are starting to make solar ovens part of their daily life. I appreciate the video!

  • I've cooked plenty of chickens in my home-made solar oven. works great.

  • That is called a SUN OVEN. We have one and have only turned our oven on ONE time since we have gotten it. If you want to know where we got ours send me a message and I will send you the web site. They are fairly pricey, but every time you use it some of the price is paid back.

  • @IdahoViewing

I'm looking to buy a solar oven, what brand did you buy ? how much ?

    and what site ?

    thanks

    Clay

  • if light comes thorugh the plastic wrap or the glass then y cant the light escape back

  • @baeronautics Think of your car sitting in the hot sun. That is exactly what a solar oven does. Part of it is the oven and items in the oven absorb the energy. Also the angle the light hits the glass changes and is retained as well.

  • Yes Lets all "connect us with earth and with nature" O.o

  • Leave the bottom out of it and place it over a fire ant mound. Pest elimination with out chemicals. The crunchy tid bits are an added bonus.

  • Love the sun oven...will add it to my net-zero powered home...I wonder if its hot enough to cook breads...

  • @MrEnergyCzar yes highest rated comment some said they use it to cook bread in 48 minutes

  • @MrEnergyCzar yes highest rated comment some said they use it to cook bread in 48 minutes

  • how do you shower in a river?

  • @joedacop a waterfall maybe?or you just wait till it rains :P

  • @joedacop It's NOT that hard to figure out.

  • @joedacop a spot where the river flows into a waterfall. :)

  • @joedacop You stand under a waterfall.

  • @joedacop water fall i guess, i have cleaned up in a river cold as hell and not worth it under any circumstance. id rather be dead.

  • @joedacop You cup your hands and scoop the water into the air. The higher you get the water the finer the droplets. Don't scoop the water too far though or you'll end up running around the river like a demented clown. And NEVER film yourself doing it - it's bound to end up on You Tube with Benny Hill music to accompany it.

  • @joedacop i dont think you should.

  • @joedacop With an elephant .....lol....

  • @joedacop With a watering can.

  • @joedacop Waterfall?

  • @joedacop thats a silly question!!

  • use H20 as a fuel source research H20r hammer 4 heatin H20 on utube uses little electricity 2 make lots of heat

lok at Patterson pwer cell Mr. Paterson very good inverter worked 4 DuPont

ponds and fleishmann cold fusion process this cold fusion process

de tech greatly refined & comp like CETI Motorola many comp in Jap and Fr

says it works excess of 1000% more energy than it consumes Was confirmed MIT's results falsified theis guaranteed funding 4 hot fusion project way back in 1998

  • yeah i would be more convince if you actually show the after product.

  • raw in the middle.......burnt on top. LOL

I actually hear this does relly work.

  • Solar cooking is great! Iron pots are toxic. Too much iron is very dangerous and it is difficult to regulate the amount of iron going into food. I've heard that many an african has died from using iron pots. Have your local potter make pots with a black glaze instead.

    Peace,

    Brett

  • If cooking highly acidic foods yes, but for most stuff it is safe. The romans used to sweeten wine by stirring it in lead pots. Now that was insane.

  • preety little girl lovely nails shed make a great chef. 4 hours id be starving by then

  • pay your green carbon tax to Al Gore & Rockefeller

  • I invite you to come see my little animated video. It's made with a can of Pepsi ... You be the judge. Thank you for your visit.

  • Would've liked to have seen it after it was cooked. Steam rising from the pot after removing the lid. That would've been nice.

  • Just put "eattheweeds solar cooking" in the youtube search bar and check out Green Deans video on solar cooking. He makes a chicken dish from start to finish. I love his channel, which is basically about edible weeds in the US. He now has made over 100 videos.

  • are we talking about spaming around here aredditor?? No not the canned kind either.

  • It's a reply to a comment that someone made about wishing they could see more of the process. Not placing comments in relevant positions is one of the many disadvantages of youtubes comment system. BTW, I'm not pushing penis enlargement products, or mortgage refinancing companies, silly.

Perhaps you're affiliated with the above video? I'm not affiliated with the Green Dean in any way. I'm just a fan. There are quite a few fantastic educational channels on youtube now.

  • You missed something very important. Keep That Glass Clean. It affects the temperature that the oven will achieve! Also, aiming can control temp and cooking times.

  • The cool thing about solar ovens is that they can work in the winter time too. It'll get to about the same temperature with a few modifications.

  • could you pls send me how to get that solar oven,,i think it's work here in saudi arabia for sure, thank"s

  • What did you use inside the box? Did you use a cardboard box and put the solar on top?

  • holy shit! I just cooked on a cardboard one my wife made here in Seattle. I made a lentil stew with chicken...it rocked! This really works!

  • Are you guys in the south west?

  • That's a really nice oven! Nice video too.

  • Green? ooooh wait what about winter? There is not much radiation to cook with soooo your 4 hours would be like all day or never.

  • Why do skiers wear dark glasses?

Winter doesn't equal lack of sun.

You change the angle of the oven with the leg at the back of the oven for use in winter

  • Just from an energy standpoint. The solar oven is going to work better in summer because of the temps present. The downside to winter is that you will have longer times to cook if the oven can battle the cold well. Plus skiers wear sun glasses because snow reflects light back in to space. I think winter you should cook with your grill or inside it just silly to cook with sun light when you have modern equipment to do the work in less time when your freezing britches off.

  • It is fun and free to cook with solar. In Texas I cook easily year round using these same ovens. The cooking day is definitely shorter in winter, but plenty long enough provided the sun is out. In summer, another advantage is that you are not heating up your kitchen using the stove or oven, thus your AC bill is less.

  • The sun is just as intense in winter if normal to the sun. The sun is actually closer to the earth in winter. Thus, if the system can be tipped 45 degrees or so, and is insulated well enough, it should get hot enough - depends on the design.

  • Four hours!!! But I want it now!

  • LOL

  • hmmmm... I think you need to show the chicken after 4 hours. when you take / took it out.

  • These ovens, or variations of, are used in third world regions. Also, survivalist sites promote them as a source of energy when electricity/natural gas is no longer available. It is used as an alternate/last resort for many since they are not always reliable to reach high enough temps except on very sunny days in very hot climates. I would use one in a grid down situation though.

  • the best way to design and promote solar cooking is by foregoing the notion it is for saving the planet, or the rain forests.

instead focus on it's practicality and convenience.

if it needs rocket science to make it so, then so be it. apply rocket science in solar cooker design.

  • how much does a solar oven cost?

  • 50$

  • no it doesnt. its actualy cheap.

im making one in my class for a project.

she wouldn't make us spend $50 on a project.

  • no, a realy one like that is about $50. the ones you make(and im making) useing tinfoil and cardboard and a black can, and stuff, are like 10$ for materials and stuff

  • Visit DesignGreenConstruction online for more information about this topic. Discusses sustainable and green construction adgendas and provides training and reference materials as well.

  • waffle waffle and no technology. his young wife was right it was supposed to be about building. IMPROVE

  • This sort of technique for cooking, along with others, could spread during summer barbecues. Then it might become common place enough and will continue into a normal way of cooking at home. Its a small price to pay to protect our planet as we know it. Its too bad the majority of Americans are just too lazy to take advantage of this great, money saving idea.

  • Cool

  • hey, heres an idea. if you want to help the planet and "go green", maybe you should stop eating chicken first. THE MEAT INDUSTRY IS DESTROYING THE EARTH. duh.

  • booooring oil rules!!!

  • does anyone know how to keep the heat in a solaroven mine tops out @170 F or 80 C?

  • spaceshuttle94, you've spammed this exact message in every solar cooking vid and given us no information to work with. Have you Tried using it during the day? because maybe the moon isn't hot enough.

  • 4 hours to forget and then be surprised.. perfect timing.

  • what about ants??

  • Ants don't like 200 plus degrees temperatures. The device should be air tight anyway if it isn't it will not cook properly. I want a cooker that uses a pressure cooker for quick stuf and an oven for the slow stuff like bread and whole taters & onions. You don;t have to spend tons of money on this you can build your own not as fancy but if you insulate it make it air tight it should work build it to where ir remains in the sun al the time so it would be preheated when you need it.

  • I made a solar oven today out of cardboard. Initially, I had to rebuild the lid to make it tight-fitting. I'm making steel cut oats, which otherwise takes a long time to nuke or cook on the stove. This way I can just set them out at 10 am, take them in at 5 PM or so, and just reheat them.. in the microwave the next day. Nuking them from the beginning took me 20 min. for two bowls-full, so that's 20 min. of nuke power I don't have to use. Wish I had a better constructed one like yours though.

  • you fuckers who think this takes too long are just spoiled little brats who are consumed in this instant culture. If you know anything about cooking, you'd realize that slow cooking at lower temperatures makes the meat much more tender and juicier. I slow cook my chicken in the gas oven at 250F for 4-5 hrs anyway. Smoking meat takes much longer than that, but is well worth it. This is an excellent way to cook on a hot day cuz the kitchen stays cool!

  • how big are those chickens???

Mine are done in 45 mins @ 300ish.

  • Yeah 4 hours is a little too long for food. I few guys I go rock crawlin with usually wrap there food in alumnium foil and place it on there intake manifold.

  • That's an 'old' trick from working oilfields when you have to drive 2 hours to get to a well or pump.

  • Is amazing this simple "technology" and how efective it is, in a sunny territory (Have to be specific for some people). i found a book from the 70's showing this invention in use and is unbelievable how hidden has been, is all about energy sources now, but if is free... surely is not gonna work...don't bother

  • You could cook food on your engine too say you are going on a long trip you can place the food under the hood and cook it. There is a website devoted to this form of cooking with complete directions and recipes.

  • i am going to buy one of these things.

  • aye, thats fine if you have sun allday, but what about scotland? and in the winter? AND ANYWAY: sauce is for people who cant cook :P haha :) good idea though

  • customer667788:

Then you will have to eat the chicken uncooked and hope that you don't get Salmonella.

  • to long to kooc my food

  • I use this oven too, bakes bread in 48 minutes!

  • its about time ppl like masala lol

  • What I can't understand is why I can buy a 1,000 watt microwave oven for $75us but a solar oven cost over $200us. I cook with the pressure cooker and conserve energy this way 20 min and any meat is falling off the bone, pork chicken beef roast and the food is delicious. I have tried to cook with the sun made a great meal but I have no skill never built anything like an oven. There are so many people that can use these in construction where power is limited and food is farther each day.

  • atleast you dont have to pay for the gas or soemthing over and over....

  • This is true given you have sunlight you have a fairly free energy source. I built a poorlt made homemade solar oven that worked one time the food I cooked was great so I would love to try a good oven but just cant get past that price.

  • You can take an iron bathtub paint the interior black build a frame aroud the tub top and use old store front glass to cover you can get some insulation and wrap around the outer base of the tub and you would have a great oven bake a lot of food at one time that way you can cook one day and munch the rest of the week perhaps you prepare the night b4 and set it in cookr in the am go fishing and return to the weeks food cooked. Cook 14 taters, onions, eggs you can make other stuff with that .

  • You could use an old freezer or oven too drill holes to place rods through line the bottom with bricks so it would be preheated when you decided to add food the thing would handle a rain too if you think of it there are many possibilities using discarded appliances. This one featured is a great portable device but if you have space build a huge oven bake 10 chickens same oven sell them at work.

  • Outstanding lesson for young and old alike!

  • nice
