  • i dont get it its a bunch of changing colors and shapes...

  • I think it also made me deaf.

  • i still saw them change even after it started rotating :/

  • kesha tik tok

  • my eyes hurt so bad trying to spot the changes...

  • Is it normal if this causes one to have homo-erotic thoughts?

  • @TheMerlinOfAR ..not if rotating gives you spots, see a doctor.

  • So this is why when women shake their ass it becomes ten times more erotic!

  • brainnnnnnnsnnnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnnsnsnsnsnsnsnsnsns

  • Haha, what a cool way to dissect our brains interpretation ability.

  • do aliens apply this in their travel in space? or their observation on earth? possible...

  • Thats what they're doing at harvord? u have got to be shitting me...

  • WTF lol, that was WEIRD

  • Comment removed

  • when its still it looks like the colours are changing/flashing rapidly all the time

when it twists left and right it seems as if the colours are not changing/changing slower, when in fact they are still changing at the same rate

  • surely it changes at a slower rate?

  • Ahhh...it's quite good, can clearly see while rotating, the colours changes at a slower rate, although it's same.

  • Nope;

    When the circle started moving it still looked like it was changing color and shape to me;

    It doesn't work;

Maybe it's because I play a lot of faced paced shooting games

  • @djsuperstar717 What does "faced paced" mean? Is that like a software development thing for face recognition? I guess those would have to be pretty observant. If you meant "fast paced", might I suggest you spend a little time playing Scrabble. Spend a little more time working on those basic life skills and less on entertainment games.

  • @taelok

    Fast paced, stop trolling.

  • @djsuperstar717 that might also mean you are mentally retarded. either way, great illusion don't you agree?

  • @jimmybilbo or not, they still change colours for me to while it was moving

  • @djsuperstar717

I play a lot of games too, primarily shooting games, and I've played a great deal of cs in my life time tho now i find it quite boring... But I saw the symbols changing, looked at the dot all the time, actually at first since it was kinda hard to notice and less obvious when they moved I thought that was the illusion lol! Thought they stopped changing but it still looked like they changed if you know what I mean, weird.

  • I dont see anything....

    It's not working for me

  • The trick is that it gives you a headache.

  • Err I can see it changing all the time ???

  • is it just me or are new sciences video getting worse and worse

  • fail. "A new illusion shows how perception of objects changes as soon as they start moving" didn't happen.

  • the flashes/changes seem to slow down when it moves

  • Didnt see anything :-/

  • Ok, you're supposed to look at the dot in the center. The idea is that when the circle is still, you can perceive the colour changes. However, when it is moving, it appears like that colours are not changing, when in fact they still are.

  • WOW. i feel all tripped out now. :P

  • wow what did i smoke

  • Lazy brains + nothing in nature behaves like that except maybe politicians.

  • ...?

  • It didn't work on me. Maybe its because I'm ambidexrious? :S Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong...who knows...eh.

  • when the dots moved back and forth it hurt my eye

  • It seems that the chain of patterns moving around stops when the whole lot starts moving. But after focusing on a few dots only the pattern chain never actually stops, you just become sort of blind to it.

hmm the brain works in very interesting ways.

  • 35 people didn't read the article.

35 people shouldn't be subscribed to this channel.

  • When it rotates, you don't often notice the colors are still changing, because the rate of change slows, you might assume no change

  • A dot.

    Now I have seen everything.

  • if you focus on one at a time, you can bypass the ilusion and still see it changing shape/color.

  • wtf is this?

  • Blog makes clear: At first, the ring of dots is motionless and it's easy to tell that the dots are changing color. When the ring begins to rotate, however, the dots suddenly appear to stop changing. The faster the ring moves, the less the colours appear to change. But in reality, they were changing the whole time, at the same rate. As the video shows, the illusion also works for brightness, shape and size.

    COOL!

  • @MegF142857 Indeed, they only appear to stop/slow their changing when they are moved around, yet I do believe it's not a failing of human perception but in fact a universal perceptual warp due to the fact that things appear to slow when moving; namely, Relativity. Observe!

  • @dandooshnanoosh Your comment reminded me of the sci-fi writer, Douglas Adams. He had an "SEP field" - The "Somebody Elses Problem Field" that makes things appear invisible. Perhaps you are merely joking?

I will leave education about relativity to the physicists.

  • @MegF142857 yes, joking. ;)

  • @dandooshnanoosh

The brain is flawed and imperfect. Deal with it! :)

  • and?

  • you suppose to focus on the white dot in the middle

  • I want the vague sounding british lady to tell me what the hell is going on.

  • weird :D

  • OH FUCK I'M BLIND!!!

  • It had no effect on me. I must be highly evolved, or very primitive.

  • Can't see shit, Captain.

  • I get it. The colors are changing. When the entire cluster rotates it seems like they are NOT changing. But they are indeed. some how when it rotates we think they stop changing.

  • @Charlymaumushi why thank you, i havent noticed... now I cant see the illusion anymore >Io

  • i... don't get it... the most that happened was i got kinda seasick...

  • "At first, the ring of dots is motionless and it's easy to tell that the dots are changing color....When the ring begins to rotate, however, the dots suddenly appear to stop changing...But in reality, they were changing the whole time, at the same rate"

if you stare at the white dot only. you dont notice the change..i didnt at first.

  • Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can see them change when they are in motion... Would Aspergers effect this?

  • @windigo77

I too can see them change when they are in motion, but to my brain it looks like they are changing colour at a much slower speed.

  • @Kargoneth Ah, I see. That makes more sense.

  • I think your supposed to stop noticing the changing when they start moving. It worked for me when I put it on full screen and focused on the middle like it said.

  • oh I thought the image was unanimated when it rotated.. what was the point of that?

  • if you focus hard , your eyes will hurt enough to make you scream "IM BLIIIINDD , IM BLIIINND !! "

  • I don't think the videos works on the net and no explanation of what to see. From peoples comments not everyone sees the same thing. Kind of pointless really

  • you guys are too dumb to work it out

  • Bother, if only I knew this would be a scientific breakthrough all those years ago when I first observed this. I could've been the first five year-old to have an effect named after them!

  • Wow, this is cool!

  • WTF, this is shit

  • ehhm what am i supposed to do when the video is finish...

  • what does it do?

  • Actually, if when they start to turn I turn my left eye in the opposite direction at 7/5 of the module of the spot's quadratic momentum, I can detect an additional 35.78% - on average - of the changing colors!

  • I was well confused like, my eyes kept going in and out of focus :(

  • It also seems like the grey dots create the greatest "blindness", while the noughts and crosses create the least.

  • It seems to me that the colour and shape change merely become less obvious when the objects are moving. I certainly wouldn't call it "change blindness" when the change is still quite visible, if far less apparent.

  • didn't work im still blind

  • Okay ignorant people :

When the circle moves the dots still change colors (at the same speed as before) did you notice ?

if you actually took 1 second to read the description and go to the link provided you might've not seemed so stupid.

  • The concept is when the circle of dots is not rotating, its obvious that they are individually changing. However when the dots rotate as a whole, the individually changing dots are not picked up by our ours, hence the title "change blindness". however since they really are changing, it is therefore an illusion. hence "change blindness illusion".

  • did I just get laid?

  • Hah wow, cool o_O

  • "At first, the ring of dots is motionless and it's easy to tell that the dots are changing color. When the ring begins to rotate, however, the dots suddenly appear to stop changing. The faster the ring moves, the less the colours appear to change. But in reality, they were changing the whole time, at the same rate. As the video shows, the illusion also works for brightness, shape and size."

  • It MUST be an illusion, because I don't really see anything worth remark.

  • It seems to be that. the dots are changing colors but as soon as it rotates back and forth it looks like the dots stopped changing.

  • i see the white dot still, i dont see anything strange

  • After reading the explanation finally understand what to look out for...

  • It's actually quite fun. The dots seem to stop changing, but when I move focus to a single dot I can see it changing while it moves. As soon as focus goes back to the white dot, the illusion is back

  • wow, i totally didn't get it.....

  • Talk about a fail.

  • What does this show exactely..? (Yes, this is a retorical question)

  • Worked for me, pretty amazing, what are the implications of this in real life?

  • @V1nd3x I like it because it shows i little more insight into how the brain processes (and sometimes ignores) visual information. As for the real world, the only thing I can think of is for showing people how NOT to design warning signs. :)

  • @V1nd3x

In what way did it work for you? I don't even get what's supposed to happen =/

  • lol. whatt!?

They were always chaging colors, it was your brain that created the changing figures!!

  • I replay the video 3 times and I still don't get it. I felt like an idiot wasting 3 mins of my life...

  • @AtomicKennen The video is only 45 seconds long. The other 2:15 is because you type too slowly.

If you look at the video again, but this time don't focus on the dot, you'll notice that the shapes are still changing even when the ring is rotating, but when you focus on the dot, the shapes in the ring appear to stop changing while the ring is rotating.

  • @disquietawe Actually....I've watched for 45 secs, spent 15 secs look at the description, replay, spent 15 secs looking at the comments, replay and the last 15 secs typing my previous comment haha. And after that, I clicked the link on the description before figuring out how it works.

  • @AtomicKennen Alright, defensive, 'twas only a joke. Does the vid work for you now?

  • @disquietawe I'm not being defensive. Read my previous comment. It says I replayed 3 times xD. Throughout these 3 replays, I am constantly seeing the shapes and colors changing even though I'm focusing on the white dot.

  • Im sorry but this doesnt work at all. The point is that when the circle moves we are suppossed to unnotices the change in the colors, figures, and dark circles, how ever I think most of people was still able to tell a difference.

  • ULTIMATE NONSENSE!

  • when it first starts, the dots are changing color, then the picture starts to move and it appears that the dots stay the same color, but they are changing the same as before, same with the shapes and the grey dots

  • da fuck am i meant to do, dont get it

  • Wow - yes I see it... Watch the video once when looking at the white dot, and when the dots start turning, they appear to stop changing colour/shape etc... Then rewatch, but this time look at the coloured dots and you will see that when they are moving, they are still actually changing colours.

  • when its still, you can see the colors/shapes change, but when its moving, its much hard to see them change.

  • i dont get it, focus on the white dot, and all i see are colors and shapes changing, is something magical suppose to happen? or am i simply missing something?

  • but how does this help cure cancer?

  • Holy crap.

  • it works a little bit

  • What's the point? All I see is first colored dot's that are still and changing colors, then move and change colors. Next is figures that are still but changing forms, and then move and change forms. Next is black and white dots that are still and change color, then move and change colors?

  • @Clavera Try reading the video description.

  • @Clavera How about reading the comment before asking what you see?

  • @Clavera when it moves it looks like the dots are blinking slower. but theyre not. The speed at which they blink hasnt changed at all

  • @Clavera OH MY GOD!!! THE CHOSEN ONE!

  • @Clavera when they move and change colour its less apparent that they are also changing colour when moving

  • @Clavera Read the article they give a link to. You can't see the changes once it starts moving, even though it's still changing the same amount. It's actually pretty weird.

  • @Clavera the white dot vanishes between the changes

  • @Clavera

Read the article before you comment.

At first, the ring of dots is motionless and it's easy to tell that the dots are changing color. When the ring begins to rotate, however, the dots suddenly appear to stop changing. The faster the ring moves, the less the colours appear to change. But in reality, they were changing the whole time, at the same rate. As the video shows, the illusion also works for brightness, shape and size.

  • @Clavera The point is that it's harder to detect that they're changing (or at least you don't detect as much change) when they're moving

  • @Clavera I suggest the link in the description box.

  • @Clavera

They're still changing colors when it rotates - that's the illusion.

  • it works for me :) . nice one

  • ... How many objects in the real world can be said, to resemble that demonstration just a little bit?

  • This demo might have been more effective if the ad didn't pop up in the middle!!

  • read the description people...

  • nope

  • I didn't get it, what's supposed to happen? Am I sitting too close to my screen?

  • I feel brainwashed

  • Yeah so whats supposed to happen after the vids over we look away??? I got nothin here.

  • stare at the dot and everything around your screen fades

  • That's crazy

  • Interesting...

  • wtf? i dont get it

  • @fumfulapenguin me too i didnt get it !

  • @luddomatic there is a link in the description box for more information .

  • @Ethiopiabuzz i saw that and i read it but it didnt work
