i do these a lot, and i actually think its easier doing them on the bosu than on the ground! part of the difficulty of the pistol is keeping your leg out straight and off the ground but becasue your higherr up on the bosu its easier to achieve this. just my opinion!
@patbtw Ive never thought of that, but now youve mentioned it and ive looked at some more Bosu Pistols,Yeah your 100% right! Will All the ones I watched their heels went below the level of the Bosu, which in turn would have meant a failed exercise if stood on thr ground!Great Observation!
@jallen2283 actually weight makes it easier than no weight. because it makes it harder to fall over backwards.. But doing that on a stability platform is insane even with dumbells.
@ericcman22302 In my opinion, weight only makes it easier for people who can't squat properly. If you have the flexibitliy in your ankles then you won't fall backwards, with or without weights.
all honesty, your a fuckin tank. ive got strong legs but this exercise gets my weak point, the amount of balance u need to do it on flat ground is unbelievable but then to do it on an inverted bosu ball. holy jesus thats insane . respect man
This is a great video. I do pistol squats with a kettlebell n my hand every workout, but the balance on my left leg is poor(much less than the right) This will be a good way to remedy that.
pistols require balance, co-ordination, flexibility and strength, as well as being a uni lateral movement. Done correctly, They increase strength and speed, result more power, result higher vertical jump and faster running speed. All that in one exercise, its high on my priority list lol. Check steve cotter
This kind of training generally cannot place enough stress on the stabilizers to cause adaptive overload, so while it looks tough, its not advisable to include in your program. The ability to balance is a learned skill, not a stabilizer issue, and is usually not sports specific as few sports require static balance to such a degree. You're better off sticking to squats and deadlifts.
You don't get it. Why not go read the comments in my single leg barbell deadlift so I don't have to repeat them here. This sort of training is very useful. I have recommended it to other people and they have done well with it. Andre has had even more success with his clients with this sort of thing.
Well I didn't read your other comments because I go through fitness vids at random, based on whichever one happens to look interesting in the sidebar. I may get to your other vids later.
As for this sort of training, I'm sure its useful for something, but in fitness there's the good-better-best scale. This move would constitute as "good". Squats are better. Periodized squats are best.
But I use the unilateral stuff a lot to be able to increase leg training intensity without increasing back intenstity. You might want to read Mike Boyle if you want to hear it from a "famous coach".
Motherfucker. I do them with weights but on the floor, not on something like that holy shit.... DAMN you is a BEAST

Dude, no offense - Mike Boyle would laugh his ass off at the lumbar flexion in that squat.
iamjackscolon2 3 years ago
With this much weight the question is what is wrong with all the lumbar flexion in the world?
The problem with lumbar flexion only applies to situations where the back bears a noticeable load.
I expect Mike Boyle would think about this issue before laughing.
zenpharaohs 3 years ago
holy crap, that looks tough, pistols are tough enough let alone on a bosu...with weights
roguethrower 4 years ago
I think icytay means it is easier for Andre because he is lifting the dbs in front, so they help as counter balance
iamamonsterrr 4 years ago
Andre can do it without the weights no problem. The weights make it harder.
zenpharaohs 4 years ago
try it without the weights, the whole point is to balance, don't cheat yourself
