Then they had to survive long enough to gear up for war, all during this time US industry was untouched by war and remained so for the entire war. I have to say Britain and the U.S. probably did the most damage in ww2, while I will say that Russia was the reason that Hitler lost. If Hitler hadn't attacked Russia than things wouldn't have gone out the way they did. But when Russia did fight Germany they lost so many troops that it is hard to call it justifiable.

Not quite sure what everyone is complainging about "who's country did more". I have to say Britain and the U.S. probably did the most damage in ww2, while I will say that Russia was the reason that Hitler lost. If Hitler hadn't attacked Russia than things wouldn't have gone out the way they did. But when Russia did fight Germany they lost so many troops that it is hard to call it justifiable.

@martynpank, you clearly do not know your history, if the USSR had been beaten and the allies had had to face the entire axis force, then even with US intervention the war would have been over for the allies, fact. if you knew your history then you would have known that 85 of German losses were on the eastern front,in fact the germans lost more troops in one battle(kursk) than in all campaigns post d-day.

This can not be said of any of the other Allies. The US won all Allied victories against Japan. The US also provided the majority of the troops for the Italian Campaign, Normandy and for the rest of the battles in Western Europe from 1942 to the end of the war.

The British Empire landed more troops at Normandy than the US, 83k vs 73k. Actually I think you'll find the RAF did more than it's fair share in WW2 that goes without saying. Google the Burma Campaign and the New Guinea Campaigns, they were fought mostly by Commonwealth Forces.

The depression started then people stopped paying back money they owed because they couldnt. The British Empire paid for WW1 off it's own back, it was pretty much broke at the end but not bankrupt.
