try and stop feeding him for a week and then crash up his food and soke it for 2 minuets then feed a little and a salt Barth 2 times a week desovle 1 tea spoon 12 liters for 15 minutes this will help
Fish don't become healed from swim bladder, they always have it once they get it, but it can be maintained by feeding a diet of boiled peas without the skins, and a high quality goldfish sinking pellet like New Life Spectrum. Bigger tanks help too. My ryukin has swim bladder, but as you can see in my videos it is not even visable because I maintain it with specialized foods. Try it. Your food isn't as good of a quality as NLS.
that's such a wonderful oranda! and BIG! mine had swimbladder problems for a couple of days (first time ever) and falls at bottom upside down. I read about needles relieving this but no instructions. Is it going to die? I am so sad for this fish, I have been really good about changing the water, the other two i have are really happy and healthy. I quarantined this one and it hurts to look at it. I massaged it a bit while it is in the water. It got way better, like 95% better, put it back into
@amamuffin do you still have your fish? what size tank are they in? do not feed commercial flake foods as this will kill fish very fast. Also don't touch your fish unless you have to. You will rub off his slime coat and he will be more prone to infections and parasites in the water. Try going to the goldfish aquarium board website. I am a member there and we give great advice of what's best for your goldfish.
@roany55 it died and a couple of weeks later my other one died. I have one left. I have done so much research on the subject, quarantined them, medicated them, put a tiny bit of aquarium salt there, i've done everything, they still died. The ones that died were the two red caps. The black one is alive and well. I feel the more exotic looking ones are genetically weaker...
put him in shallow water with a little aquarium salt, deep enough for it to move about but shallow enough to releive the pressure from his swim bladder. feed skinned peas. in shallow water he wont have to fight so hard to stay up and will get better faster.
my fish has the same thing,i had her for 15 years,i tried the peas, nothing is helping she is alone in a ten gallon tank,so she has enough room, she is quite a large goldfish, can someone please help?asap, please, someone said castor oil,but i am afraid to try this,i dont't know what else to do,can some kind person please help?
ok it is good you bought a bigger tank if you dont want him to die. 120 liters is still small if you have all this other goldfish in it but it is way better than 60l. I read that when the tank gets too small the organs of the fish compressthe swimbladder and can make it swim like that. Also due to constipation and gas. Then you dont feed for 3 days and then 2/3 days only half cooked pea a day and see chack how the poopies look. Hope it is better now already:)
Try changing his diet - some fish are allergic to the wheat / filler ingredients in flakes & pellets. It gives them gas and they can't swim right. Instead of flakes/pellets, feed freeze dried (or fresh) brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc. in addition to peas, green beans, orange, etc. cut up cocktail shrimp or sardines. Or try a gel food such as Mazuri (Lots of goldfish recipes on web.) This made a huge difference for 2 of my fancy goldfish. (It's not always overfeeding, water qual., gulping air.)
Some hobbyists feed their fish peas to treat this infection. Perhaps this works by helping in the digestion process. Try this: stop feeding the fish for a few days, give the fish optimal water conditions by performing frequent small water changes (10% every week) and see if the problem clears up.
Swim bladder disease is a digestive disorder related to constipation. Mix one tablespoon of epsom salts with enough tank water for your fish to swim in a bucket. Place your fish in the bucket for a few minutes and return him to the tank. This may relieve his constipation. Epsom salts is a laxative.
