I didn't have one of these, but I had several different ones that sounded the same.... as soon as he hit the power knob.. I recognized that motor sound!! That wonderful, beautiful, shaded pole motor sound!
Anyone have any idea how to repair the speaker on this unit? I have tried to get inside the record player but there seems to be a screw I cannot find or get at.
My sister & I had this record player. I still have a bunch of the original "Disneyland" 33 1/3 records recorded in the 70's. Very cool to see this record player.
Was that supposed to sound lke that? When I was little a record player had three speeds, 331/3 45, and 78. I used to turn on the fast speed and listen to the voice sounding like a bunch of mice chattering.
It was a Christmas gift to me & my sis when we were children. I'm not sure how well it plays now, it's in storage.
All these table-top record players used very similar stylus. (BSR & Garrards excepted). I believe Astatic sold them as AT-8. They look like a fork, held in place by a screw. Take unit to any stereo repair shop, they should be able to track down a replacement.
BTW, the tonearm in the vid model has too much tilt. Damage records!
Are you by chance playing a 78 of Cab Calloway "Blues In the Night" at wrong speed? LOL, I remember doing this with an old orange color GE Record Player as a kid.
Had one of these, my mother has pics of me changing LPs and playing records when I was 2.5 years old. It wore out (I evidently liked playing records) and had another (but not Mickey Mouse) record player as a kid, before it broke just before I turned 10 -- at that time (1987) records were on their way out so I didn't get another, either kids or regular turntable.
LOL!! it is a 78 rpm record playing at the wrong speed and most likely with the wrong needle !!..the owner needs to put vinyl record on it, not a shellac one!!
