another outstanding interview and i love his description of fig.49 of the 1st movement of Mahler 3- -i happen to like it...but i can see why Salonen would find it tasteless because Salonen sees Mahler's music in absolute terms. Eschenbach says you need to see those moments as being in inverted commas. A different, and equally valid view.
How about a series where composers are interviewed about Mahler? eg. Staude, Finnissy, Birtwistle, Ades, Dillon etc.
