This whole movie was literally perfect the acting and the filming, but what got me most of all was the music every single song from this film was amazing!
@robstock That black guitar is a dobro, and yes, Jerry Douglas is a dobro maestro. His mentor was the legendary late Josh Graves, who introduced the instrument to bluegrass music. My dad played banjo in a bluegrass band from '78 to '82 when I was a preteen, and once at a bluegrass festival, Graves wandered by our campsite, spotted our dobro player strumming a Josh Graves model instrument and ended up joining in on a two-hour jam session. AWESOME moment.
If you'd like to close the circle, check out the Stanley Brothers' (Dr. Ralph and his late brother Carter) more old-timey performance of 'Man Of Constant Sorrow':
What's not to like: 3 of the most amazing and beautiful "sireen" singers around today; Ralph Stanley singing an impassioned prayer keeping death at bay for another year or the Soggy Bottom Boys aka Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Ralph Stanley, Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris.
Mercy...That's just some Great Music no matter what you want to call it.
Ralph Stanleys' performance is the most soulful I've ever seen. Listen to the words carefully as he prays Death away for another year. It is absolutely riveting and moving. Incredible performance Mr. Stanley, you are a master at your chosen trade!
I know Ralph and I'll tell you he is just an ordinary person... always taking time to tell you time of day... He has a house in southwestern Virginia just a very few miles from mine.. What you see is what you get... His (late) fiddle player lived right next door to me years back.... In these parts of eastern Tennessee Ralph and his boys are like family... and they make you feel the same !!!!
@ExDJrocksquaddie you don't have to be a redneck just feel the music in your heart and soul that's what make bluegrass so addictive...Even in the UK you can be a hillbilly, mountain folk ,redneck in your heart
This performance stunned me when I watched the Grammy's. I had never seen "O Brother Where Art Thou", but to hear this song, Ralph Stanley's "O Death" and the Soggy Bottom Boys caused me to quickly by the album and later the movie. This is classic!
I can't help myself but when the Alison Krauss started her solo I got instant boner!
her music + her look = super hot country!
