A friend and I went to see him play in the CIA Cardiff a couple of weeks ago and JMJ and his 2 other artists were absolutely "Fantastique". We had front row centre seat tickets so he was playing directly in front of us (about 8 feet away) and his laser harp was about 4 and a half feet away from us. I have only ever seen him play his amazing concerts around the world from the comfort of my own home and i am glad to say he totally blew our minds. Well done Jean, he hasn't lost his touch!
@ScottPickle1 Yeah, i was there too, great concert. Slightly spoilt by the couple piss heads who were shouting things at him and running up and down the isle. You might not have seen that from the front
@DeJarreVu I was at cardiff too, it was a shame about the drunk morons, i heard them but couldn't see them. why bother attending if you are just going to do that. Anyway, it was a fantastic concert and i hope that he comes back to Cardiff.
He's got some nice gear there, probably around the time Oxygene was recorded, which both the EMS and ARP feature heavily but no sign of the RMI Harmonic which was also on the album.
Also the fact that the first synth he's tweaking is the ARP2600 which came out in 1971, the same year of the AOR performance so it's unlikely Jarre managed to buy that synth in the same year.
Translation (cont.): When I was using studios I had much more equipment that when I was working in the Music Research Groups, which were mainly for artists who were already signed to record labels. It was through my time at these groups that I met other singers like Christophe and Patrick Juvet
Translation (cont.): The idea of totally hacking studios and selling some discarded projects to record companies was used so that they would leave me alone for nights on end in their studios with my equipment allowing me to experiment
Translation (cont.): I didn't know if he would be interested in my music. Eventually he was convinced and the music was played at the re-opening ceremony of the Opéra in Paris at the Palais Garnier. The Opéra had been re-decorated by Marc Chagall.
Translation (cont.): and this choreographer was asked to write something for the Opéra and I went to see the director of the Opéra in Paris. The director wasn't used to havng someone bring all their equipment with them. I entered his office and I played him half of the music for the Opéra that I had composed a few hours previously.
In the studio: "Can you make the sound sharper please?"
"The first thing I did was actually a project for the Opera, which is something totally surrealist because normally it's something you would do at the END of your career. And so the first thing I ever did was a piece of music for the choreographer of the Avignon Festival
This is an extract of the little movie broadcasted yesterday on the french channel France 5. It was interesting to learn of discover again how JM Jarre became a musician.
...I didn't known at all if it would work, but fortunately he accepted it and the music was played for the re-opening of the opera "Palais Garnier", after the ceiling had been decorated.
Then JM Jarre explains how he could use studios to experiment music. It's in these studios he met singers like Christophe, Patrick Juvet.
- The first thing I made was a project at an opera. It is totally incredible, because it's usually the thing you make at the end of your carrier. In fact I made a music for a choreographer of "Avignon Festival" and he was asked for something at an opera. I went to see the director of Paris'opera, very unusual thing. I had a lot of material, louspeakers... and I made him listen the half of the commission he was going to pass one hour later.
This is from after Oxygene. This video was originally recorded in 1977 or 1978.

Sadly, he has lost his innovative spirit just like Kraftwerk now. The mega concerts has taken the energy away from MUSICAL quality.

It can't be AOR. Notice that AOR was in 1971. JMJ met MG [present on that video] when he was in a middle of Oxygene album :)
ps. JMJ and MG met in 1974
