I am lucky enough to be going to his show this coming August in MA! This is one of my favorite songs comes along with inspiration, goose bumps, swells of emotion, its just such a good song!
I am very touched by this song, it sounded like he was singing right to me as I could really relate to the lyrics, especially the part about: "There must be a thousand voices trying to get through" which, incidentally came on the song just as I typed it. There is no such thing as a coincidence. This song is so beautiful, it will haunt me for a long time. Incidentally, I thought it was a great performance, couldn't detect any cracks in his voice. Thank you Rodger, you made me cry.
i am verry sorry to say it in 2011, it is not, -and that meens that we still have to fight and speak-sing-compose- a hungarian. But still aGreat respect for the artists:
Sorry Its not the same as originally performed - his voice is not clear and cracks frequently . One of my favorite songs over the years and he blows it live on stage. Disappointed Now I cant find any studio or good concert version of it on line live or on utube- why is that ?
@kevinatlakefork1 Come on, this is a very hard song to sing and will never sound the same as a studio version. This is a man of flesh and blood and he sings it beautifully from the top of his age. "he blows it live on stage"??? How can people say such a thing? Just go listen to the CD and pretend that an artist never grows and never performs again throughout his life...
When I was 20 years old, a friend of mine had a sound system that would blow the doors off Fort Knox. He said..."sit there on the floor in the middle of the room" (we had a few beer), then played this....very loud, without talk, and music was never the same again.
It was one of the most amazing songs I had ever heard. It seems so many years ago (as it was), but when I hear it played...whenever....I still thank my friend for playing the most incredible SuperTramp song EVER! Thanks Cam!! Cheers!!
Hey Warrior, you are not the only one who misses those good times. I like to hide in Nostalgiaville from the crap they make today, at least, they knew how to make good music.
@Wolfgasm0414 A 60 year old man with a reedy tenor singing his heart out isn't good enough. Understood. I'm sure there's plenty of overproduced, voice texturized crap here on youtube to keep you busy. God speed.
Like so much of Roger Hodgson and Supertramp's music... this is breathtakingly beautiful poetry. Hearing it today though, my thoughts are with 15yrold James Hubley, a kind and talented Ottawa, Ontario teen who gave up his fight against depression and bullying and took his own life yesterday. "i never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land, but it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand..." rest in peace James. May your family and friends find solace and comfort in your memory.
I love this song! Just wish that Roger would get his head out of his ASS and allow the Supertramp vids. to be posted. SERIOUSLY.. Like HE was THE BAND.... ALL ALONE!.. Whatever.. GET OVER YOURSELF ROG>> ALL played a part..
Roger Hodgson's voice in "Lord is it mine" and "Oh Darling" just blow me away. I can't get enough of this gentleman. I wish there were videos of early Supertramp but he'd prefer not to. Still, "Breakfast in America" is my favorite all time album.
If I could only pick two songs to have on a desert island , I would pick this and John Lennon's "Imagine". The depths of this man's talent and soul never cease to amaze me. Like a modern version of AVE MARIA this song! Love it. Play on Roger, Play on!
It's also in Child of Vision "We have no reason to fight, cause we both know that we're right"....... If every idiot who wants to start a fight or even worse... start a war, would think of these two lines first
@bmg760 I came here for the same reason, this music has brought me a great deal of comfort today, I have never heard this song before or Fool's Overture..that one got me good..I hope you are continuing to feel better..God Bless
@bmg760 things are never as bad as they seem , the amount of pain or hurt is a direct correllation to the amount of "goodness " within ! the more loving you are, the more you will feel either pain or love - sometimes they meet and there is tears of joy and pain at the same time . i have found these times to be the most profound of my life ! they gave me the strength to " endure " many times - feel the love . good luck for the future .........
@bmg760 stand back - take a look at a tiny bead of rain happilly sitting on a leaf after the rain , then slowly place your finger just above it - and watch it jump to you ! real magic ! look for the good things in life ! then the good things will start looking for you . peace ....
Loved this song for so long, tough times again for me and how this song helps. Thank you Roger, seeing you in May at Royal Albert Hall, will I look a cissy when the tears appear when you sing this.
I visited Copenhagen this weekend and took part of his concert and i have to say this was absolutely wonderful! He can still hold his tune and the music he delivers can¨t be better!
Maravilhoso, me levava a outras dimensões na minha juventude.Musica de grande qualidade, eterna, voz iniqualavel, o Roger está ainda melhor. Muito bom, very good...eheh.Sou do Brasil, o Supertramp vendeu muitos discos por aqui, graças a Deus eheh...
My good friend who committed suicide in 2008 loved this tune. Not to take any luster off of it. It is beautiful. Maybe it helped take him away more peacefully than otherwise.
Simply an amazing song..saw him last night at the River Rock in Vancouver and met him backstage..a class act and a legend in rock n roll..keep it going Roger!
I love this song for the feeling and I want to say please ? please we don't need to fight there are so many peoples who really need our help ?? please please can you see this ? lord please help me .. jesus ayudame yo solo quiero ayudar nada mas .? es eso muy duro de entender ? bye .. adios sa yonara
in your white robe and long stringy hair. and Helliwell with all his brass lined up in a rack. I will never forget that concert. I've seen just about everybody there is to see and your's was the best. Thanks for coming to America and sharing yourselves with us. Thank you Thank you. God Bless Supertramp.
I saw you guys at the Forum in Englewood, Calif. I wore out Breakfast in America before going to your concert not to mention Crime of the Century and Even in the Quietest Moments. Wow what a concert. Your mixing wasn't right for the first couple of songs , you guys left the stage for a couple minutes and when you came back you sounded just like your albums. Lip sync maybe I dont care it sounded awesome and you guys were great. You looked just like Jesus as we know him when you came out on stage.
@prmayner LOL I'm on a music forum, and someone had posted the question "Which rock star most resembles Jesus?" I said Roger, and a couple of people agreed with me! I believe he is a very spiritual man; you can tell by his lyrics. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written :)
Seen Supertramp back in 79 in Los Angeles man sounds just as good now as back then, got to be in the top 5 of my all time favorite bands. i think i wore out every album. Great Great song.
the more I listen to this performance the more I love this song and the more I adore this musician.....thank you Roger, can't wait to see you in London next May!!!
I got Breakfast In America when I was barely 16 (1980) Used to listen to this song over and over, I had only recently discovered that the abuses I suffered were NOT my Fault.. I would hide in the dark wondering and thinking someone understands the confusions of life and hope in a time when my life was a teenage mess, and convinced NO ONE understood.
@MrHertzcrew oh my goodness....I hope this album gave you some strength and make you feel that many people actually would understand....I was born in 1979 and despite my father used to listen to this album I only discovered it failry recently. It does help me with the hard and rough patches, especially this song! This live version is even better...xx
I first met Roger in a video store in Nevada City and he was so humble and I was taken back that he was just renting a movie like we all do. Great person to meet for sure.
Truly a great song of love, peace and hope. Roger puts so much passion and emotion into his voice you can't help but be moved. Beautiful! If you like this listen to 'Downstream' too. Rick Davies on vocals, it's a superbly evocative song and contains possibly the most loving lyric ever written by anyone...'you are the reason I was born'. Makes me think of my daughters each time I hear it. Long live the music!
I was born The year this album was released,so I don't know how people lived Roger's songs back then, but today in this time ad place, everytime I watch this video I cry my eyes out. I am a professional violinist and I so wish I could have been part of that orchestra. Gorgeous, gorgeous soul Roger, it shines through many of his songs, but this one beats them all. I am privileged to feel what I feel when I hear this particular performance!
This is truly one of my favorite supertramp songs. I can feel the overwhelming sence of peace that rodger must of felt after he wrote this song. It exemplifies
every emotion the soul can contain all at once. this song takes the mask off the human soul and reveals all that is both horrible and wonderful about humanity.
If ther is a god and a heaven above us, well Rodger, that song will surely land you into the loving bossom of the heavenly creator.
This is the most beautiful and relaxing songs that I ever heard. I can and have listened to it over and over. "It's Raining Again" is another great song. "Lord is it Mine?" is like ELO's "Can't get it out of my head". You can't listen to these songs just once.
Roger Hodgson and he's from my favorite group, Supertramp. Man, what a cool song, and by a top bloke. Good stuff m8. Keep it up and come to AustrAlia. I for 1 will come and see the show.
I've seen hundreds of concerts in my 53 years. The most memorable was seeing Roger Hodgson perform last year at the Granada Theater in Sherbrooke, Quebec, which is a 1400 seat theater. BTW....I posted in Roger's Guestbook on his website the night before the show saying how much my wife, daughter and I were looking forward to the show....coming from Vermont. He said hello to his friends from Vermont after his 3rd song. He actually reads his guestbook! Very Cool!
Rick and Roger were supreme lyricists. Their words take you away on a journey and bring you back a better person. Check out 'Downstream', it too is fantastic and has possibly THE best, most sincere line ever written...'you are the reason I was born'. Who could not be moved by words of such power? Long live Supertramp!
kenja always loved the positive songs of supertramp, YES, George Harrison, john lennon and all those. spirituality is everywhere. peace is in us. why dont we listen until things have to die? are we blind? peace is so simple. we must share. help us, god.
Klasse !!!!! Ik heb Roger gezien in Den Haag in 2009, zulke muziek roert je tot op het bot, ook vanwege de eenvoud. Misschien ooit nog in Supertramp ...........ik hoop het.
This is one of my favorite songs too. Just brings me to a prayerful place inside and the orchestra makes it feel like the soundtrack to a touching movie scene. I can tell this one came from deep in Roger's soul and it carries his beautiful spiritual heart along with it to the listener.
I have tickets to see you this Sunday in Trier. Can't wait! Please play this, it's my favorite song - I remember reading that you have said it is your favorite song too.
You are a true musician and your songs have meaning and depth and have been with me all my life - I feel like I know you. Your voice has always touched a chord deep in my soul and helped me through some pretty difficult time.
I can feel Roger's deep longing for God in the sound of his voice as he sings this song. I am not one to get sentimental but there is much more to Roger than meets the eye and the ear and it all comes through when you get all the other nonsense out of the way and really look at the artist and the man behind the songs. I'm glad to see him not shrouded by all commercialism and hype of the old Supertramp days. It lets his purity really come through to be felt and appreciated.
This is one of my favorite songs thanks for posting this video. Roger is one of the most gifted composers and songwriters of this century. Thanks for the great tour blog and newsletter you really care for your fans.

every emotion the soul can contain all at once. this song takes the mask off the human soul and reveals all that is both horrible and wonderful about humanity.

Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
