Superb!! Masterpiece.. Glad that I've lent my ears to this song and glad that i've downloaded the entire album for free at DownloadMusic/./im , remove the slashes..
I must confess, I have never actually heard a recording of this piece of music that I like until I have heard this little snippet. I will hunt down a CD.
Just uploaded is an Elgar montage to the backdrop of his own incomparable 1933 recording of the Prelude to The Kingdom. The montage includes rare film of Elgar talking to the camera (a silent film alas!), playing with his dogs, etc. as well as still shots of Elgar and the beautiful English countryside that inspired him. Visit "Elgar conducts Prelude to The Kingdom" (or add "/watch?v=VVU9CXPq-oo" to YouTube's url to find it)
You can see more of this film, including Elgar talking to the orchestra before he begins conducting, at "Elgar conducting Pomp and Circumstance March no.1" (or add "/watch?v=gxqFdcZz974" to YouTube's url to find it)
Thank you for posting this rare film of one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time, someone who is easily worthy of standing alongside Frederic Chopin and Johann Sebastian Bach. The whole video is available in the UK on a BBC DVD (alas not available in the US format).
Briliant sound and picture quality.I love this particular piece of music by Elgar, but I must comment on this...GOOD GOD ALIVE IS THAT A MOUSTACHE OR IS THERE A DEAD BEAR LYING ON HIS TOP LIP?
The complete film has just been posted as "Elgar conducting Pomp and Circumstance March no.1" and includes Elgar talking to the orchestra before he begins conducting.
Is this the one where he comes in and says something like "Gentlemen, I want you to play this like you've never heard it before"? Because he conducts it like he's never seen it before.
Conductors aren't usually that great at conducting period. I've seen a video of Copland conducting Rodeo with the Minnesota Orchestra in "76, and it conduct was hopeless!!
This particular clip is Crudely cut
Please delete this clip as there are better and complete

@Trommealvar Ooops!
I should have said that there is a much better and complete upload of this historic (see Video Response)
I admire Sir Edward Elgar. Thanks to " nankipoo " which posted this "crude" (now in feb 2011) clip,
but was "AWESOME" in May 14, 2006!!

I have heard him called old fashioned, backward looking etc
What does it matter when the music is great?

Although it's only 35 seconds long, it's great to get to see Elgar conducting. What a treat. Bravo.

Not the best conductor of his own stuff.

VEry interesting video. I love Elgar

aparantly, Robert Schumann rarely conducted his own compositions because the orchestra couldn't stand his lack of conducting ability.
