  • how did you make it?

  • what kind of witchery is this.

  • when the gulf oil spill took place, do you think it would have been possible to use ferrofluid to collect the oil?

  • This is actually being researched & as it turns out is quite viable. Smart materials will be the revitalization of many products on the market. It is already here if you look closely you'll find actually this technique in the new shock systems being developed for transport ingenious isn't it? The range of its application is not yet known. Big fan!

  • It looks like a ferrite / oil colloid

  • i wonder if i put thiss in my 240sx vlsd :P will it lock up when i activate it lol

  • ARE YOU A WIZARD?

  • @ 1:03 BP should have thought of this. The oil spill would have been cleaned up way quicker.

  • o ya were gana stick a bigg asz magnet into the ocean and clean up the oill

  • how would you clean that stuff up if you spilled it? just use a magnet?

  • clean the oil spill with this?

  • yup this totally reminds me of "world of goo"

  • just old oil from gearbox ! boooring!

  • If only at 0:07 the glass broke...

  • How strong a magnet should there be used to get a good effect on the ferrofluid?

  • Ronald E. Rosensweig: Ferrohydrodynamics

  • Someone has to say it, might as well be me, fucking magnets, how do they work?

Oh, and this is really neat, if only the Gulf of Mexico was in a bowl.

  • Why don't they use this on oilspill?

    to plug it?

  • @Signmacula dumb ass...

  • Its not ferrofluid its just simple watercolor...black whit iron oxid in it.

    LAME.^ ^

  • can this technology be used to clean up oil slicks?

  • Porque no limpian asi el golfo de Mexico? que pasa? cada vez me creo mas la teoria de la conspiracion de todos esos cabrones que quieren acabar de joder al planeta.

  • What happens between 4:28 and 4:47? It looks like the stuff goes solid.

  • @RupertsCrystals Wow, just noticed that, it is a perspective illusion. It is being smeared along the counter top away from the camera VS lifting up and holding its shape. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • How much would a magnet, large enough to clean, let's say 3 square feet of beach, weigh? 2,3, 4 tons maybe? just curious.

  • where can i get ferrofluid for cheap? can i mix magnetic sand with engine oil and make it? that will be way cheaper, anyone?

  • watch this vid while listening to lamb of gods 11 Hour. great!!!!!

  • 0:34 AIDA!

  • you dont need the powder

  • that would suck if the glass broke.

  • Birth of flubber.

  • i wanna bath in this and give my gf a magnet

  • Dude! I love ferrofluid! I want to make some of my own some day maybe grind down one of my dads magnets...

  • ha ha "aww _____" love how u turne off sound

  • Yea, bit of crazy talk, forgot I was filming at times:-)

  • I wish someone would experiment the antigravity aspect of ferro fluids. Maybe the next step in space travel?

  • its been done by nasa i believe with something to do with transporting feul in 0g enviroments, or something along that line.

  • what happens if you put some on your hand then the magnet on the other side of your hand?? you should record it :D

  • you almost can't get the stuff of your hand, but with a glove it's possible.

  • Omg that Looks Like The Stuff Braniac is Made Of

( Kinda Addicted To SmallVille xP )

  • yeah, braniac is made out of some mettaly liquid thing

  • omg luckily that glass didn't break at the beginning. that would have been the end of that carpet.

  • Yeah that stuff is pretty messy...

There was a video on YT a while back that some chemistry major did of how to synthesize a ferrofluid, but it got taken down...

I wish I had downloaded a copy of it...

  • haha, yeah i was thinking wish i had some, antigrav, sounds cool. people should be able to get or make this stuff.

  • you can make this stuff: laser toner for a laser printer, vegetable oil, and a magnet. there's a vid on how to make it as well.

  • lol idk, since ferrofluid is magnetic it might have just been sucked right out, but i don't think it'd ever get off the magnet after that

  • There is a trick, take a stronger magnet set through plastic with a small piece of steel, the fluid goes towards the metal bar wrapped in plastic. The left over, napkin removal.

  • @GREENPOWERSCIENCE HI Green POWAAAAAAR :D

I was wondering... You had lazer toner(powder) and oil is this like any kind a oil? Or is it only possible with veggie oil? and how much form each? 50/50?

    Thanks

  • The laser toner sort of works, true ferrofluid is the best IMHO.

  • make a video of how to make it

  • it takes oil, very very very very fine iron powder and a soapy supstance that holds together the molucles of the iron and oil, this isn't your run of the mill sience exp. you can by 1 ounce of it of ebay for about 14 bucks though =)

  • This stuff is cool and so easy to make: regular car oil and black laser toner. Toner is a very fine metallic ink that gets fused to the paper when heat is applied.

  • (at 1:55) "It's FLUBBER!!!"

  • this substance is the perfect first step for the masses to understanding super fluidity and relativity (when spun at high speed and pressure)

  • how O_o?

  • Damn! It just throws the wine glass at the magnet! 0_o

  • looks like Venom, the Marvel character

  • Were can i get that stuff at?

  • is that water that you are keeping it in at the last shot? If it is, I recommend keeping it in something non-polar as a median In order to make it a little less messy. I hear kerosene works well.

  • kerosene has other problems though,,,,, like burning

  • please can someone tell mee how i can find or make this ferrofluid

  • unitednuclear(dot)com

  • its a suspension the iron fillings r basically so fine it appears to be a fluid. If it spills..let the water evaporate then just suck it up with a vacumm, (tho if its carpet ur kinda screwed lol).

  • Why dont you keep your mouth shut instead of speaking so much gubely gu?

the iron fillings are suspended in oil thanks to a third quemical which binds both together, a kinda soap.

think of it as used car oil and you will understand why you are fucked if it drops on the carpet :-) or any where else.

  • go drown in it then :-D

  • lol spawn?!?!

  • I bought some ferrofluid and NIB magnets and have had a great time playing with it. but I built a little acrylic box to keep it from getting all over my magnets... That stuff is impossible to get off of your magnets.

  • It makes a total mess. You can get it off with a paper towel. Also set them in the sun. It will dry up. Thank you for the message.

  • this stuff is not oil. it's somewhat a 'liquid' iron solution. i made some in a science enrichment program.

  • What you did is an double vodka mate... and you drunk it...

Actually it is mostly oil, some iron filling and a magical ingredient known only to Coca Cola...

  • It isn't oil. It is ferrofluid.

  • freaky

  • yea maybe they could use old MRI machines as giant magnets then pump the oil back into a tanker?

  • its not petrol oil

  • thats amazing!

  • Its Alive, Its Alive!

  • wow...

And what does this have to do with green power?

  • that is cool!
