what torque wrenchs should i buy for this? Brand i mean... see none of the cheaper click types from any brand seem to have good reviews, only snap-on but im not spending $240 for each ft and inch torque wrench... Would be beam style torque wrenchs work for this project ? Or would it be too difficult to reach and torque the rear bolts since the beam style isnt a ratchet type wrench
You mentioned that you were going to remove the AC unit from the truck to reduce the drag. What was the reason you decided not to do this? When you mentioned it I was thinking about the belt and if there was a shorter one readily available at the auto store for others who might have done this?
Who here has a 5.2 that has NOT needed this repair? Mine has 180,000 and runs golden. I think this whole "plenum fix" is a bunch of fucking hysteria. Fuck this.
@vwilkins4 You have no idea what the fuck you're talking about bro. Dodge was out of their damn minds putting that plenum pan in this truck. The pan is steel and the intake in aluminium, both have different heat expansion properties which causes the pan to loosen and allow for the gasket to get punched out. Shit design. You have 180thou? Awesome! Mine blew out at 201 thou. Good luck with the repair smart ass.
Dont forget that the bolts can be too long for the hole depth and bottom out before applying enough pressure to properly hold the gasket in place. You can grind down the unthreaded nipple or use washers on them.
I have a 95 with the 5.2. Would a good indicator that I have this problem too, if I have black liquid like stuff spray from my exhaust when I rev it up? I found out about it at the worst although funniest time. I was a the grocery store and there was a car parked next to me and there was a lady wearing white pants loading her kids into the car and I started my truck and the initial rev shot the black stuff all over her legs. She wasn't very happy.
Do you have to put new intake bolts? Do you have to put the plastic covers back on the plug wires? Is the plenum pan reusable? Is it necessary to remove the Throttle body?
My brother might have this same issue on his 1998 5.2L. How did you diagnose this issue on your truck? The only thing he's having right now is a loss in power. It's not smoking, or idling rough, or anything. It just doesn't have the pickup that it should...
What did yours do to make you suspect that the plenum gasket was messed up?
@cedaytonarydr Pull the air cleaner off. and look down into the intake with a flashlight.... If u see any oil or if it looks black, your gasket is blown.
dude finally lol thanx for the video I will be attempting the same exact thing on friday through wed... i dont have work though i hope to finish in 2 days... hey i like the intake setup... did you get that through jegs or summit or can you buy locally! thanx i'll be posting my video hopefully wed if everything goes well
@gdamtbnms Ya its not 2 hard of a project... just gotta take your time and go slow... and be very careful when putting the intake back in with the new gaskets.... its very easy for the gaskets to slide out of position and its hard to tell. As for the intake its home built. I didnt wanna spend $150+ on a intake kit so i bought some abs pipe and fittings from work and a K/N cone filter for the end. Total price with the filter $55.

fourak1 1 year ago
@fourak1 Used the angle drinder on the bolt to flatten the sides so i could get a wrench on it then just turned it out.. Worked great
