I worked in an elementary school in the ESL department for 3 years and we received a large group of Karen refugee children over a period of 1.5 years - the first few of which I had to stay with all day everyday for the first few weeks so that they could learn about our culture quicker (they were so scared). It's incredibly sad what these kids have gone through and dealt with. Some of my kids lost parents, while others starved in the jungle before coming here.
