It is illogical to not set a responsible bedtime for a young kid and instead let them run around in the middle of the night doing who knows what. It is illogical to put the emphasis on "free expression" for young kids who are not yet mature enough to find a personal identity that is socially responsable for it's own actions. Kids need the structure of rules to develop well.

Nor does the general liberal culture of lax control on kids behavior help to do it either. You can let your kid go out at night if you want, but many intercity kids get into trouble these days and need to be under more and better parental control.
