It's been 3 years since I've been to burning man after going 9 consecutive times.
I'm not too much into looking into Burning man things on the net these days as I've been busy with other aspects of life, but this is inspiring and very cool.
I can't wait to get back to Burning Man hopefully this year.
This seems cool, but I think 3d Zoetropes are much more impressive in person. I mean this seems cool on Youtube, but I'm guessing in person it's probably jaw dropping.
I did say that wasn't a criticism and you answered as if you took my comment as one...which it wasn't meant - the spectacular did look spectacular and like I said I bet it was really really good to be there in person at the time - I am just on the look out for projects that are using power used by the bicycle in the UK at this present time for ordinary everyday uses -know of any here or USA, Canada?
there are over a hundred on youtube. use innovate or die as your key word search. you can check oout more of my art if you look under my username petephuduh.
I bet thats really good to see for real - but have you done any work where the power generated could be used for something other than thought provoking art or entertainment - this is not a criticism - just interest in other projects you may have.
In an earlier comment I mentioned that Homourobouros scored a "zero for environmental impact". I only meant with regard to the Specialized "Innovate Or Die" contest. Otherwise this is one of the greatest pieces of art I have ever seen!
homouroboros is one of those things everyone should see before they die. Seriously. Not only is it innovative, interactive, green and pedal-powered, it's an inspiring vision of what can happen when artistic genius, technology, community and environmental consciousness intersect. homouroborous premiered at Burning Man this year and it was the talk of the playa! Imagine seeing this giant tree with monkeys hanging from it--awesome even when not in motion. (continued below...)
(...continued from previous comment) Now imagine the surprise and intense delight of participants when their pedaling and drum-playing was rewarded with this MIND-BLOWING display: strobe lights start flashing, the tree begins to rotate at a fast clip and, because the strobes and rotation are expertly timed, the once-static monkeys appear to be swinging from branch to branch (cont'd)
(cont'd from previous comment) At the same time, a snake with an apple in its mouth emerges from the top of the tree, winds its way down the branches and offers the apple to the monkey, who heartily devours it! I tell you, I witnessed this spectacle time and again and when homouroboros was activated, the crowds began cheering, whooping, clapping, laughing, and asking each other "How the hell is it doing that??" (cont'd...)
(cont'd)When the display was over the ruckus continued, a loud, collective roar of gratitude and praise for Peter Hudson's gift to the community. As one friend put it, "Dude, when's the last time you heard people CHEER for art?" And that they did, every time. I can't say enough about the humble genius that is Peter Hudson or the blood, sweat, tears and money that went into the creation of homouroboros. (cont'd below...)
(cont'd from previous comment) Ask anyone who's experienced it and their story will be much the same as mine and, like me, they'll agree that Innovate or Die should award its top prize to Peter Hudson!
this was an amazing and well crafted piece of artwork. I really enjoyed how it required people to work together to make it function. it was quite brilliant in its use of pedal power to generate the energy to make it work....really stellar, thanks Peter!
Words can't do this piece justice. It is truely mindblowing! Interactive, people powered art that forget about smiling you can't help but hoot, holler and clap! It would take alot to impress me more than this piece and I can't wait for Peter to make that happen with his next one!!
I heard Peter talking about this "contraption" that would be half monkey, half snake, completely green and would be the better of one year in the making. It is just amazing to see someone with one idea and that idea blossom into much more than a simple contraption but watch it become a "movement". Those pedals turned imaginations and spun ideas as well as those monkeys and still are doing so today....
I was lucky enough to hear Peter Hudson start talking about this thing all the way back when he had only just finished his previous piece. I say that because it was an inspiration for me to watch a very bright and creative man have his ideas materialize. Sure it's mindblowing to see homouroboros run, it's green, innovative, fun and it always elicits a visceral reponse from its audience. But, the best part for me will always be that it brought out the best in everyone who was involved with it.
Peter's Homouroboros is the most unique combination of art and engineering I have ever seen. Not since the fountain at the George Pompodu center in Paris has there been a better example of art and technology complimenting each other. So, too, Peter brings in yet another important aspect of creating art into the modern realm - green. The pedaling aspect of the piece suggests it motorized by people, rather than fuel. Incredible.
I also saw Homouroboros at BurningMan and it was truly awesome! Perhaps the best art installation I have ever seen. However, one of the criteria that these entries will be judged on is "environmental impact".... and Homouroboros scores a big fat zero in that department.
I also was fortunate enough to see this awe-inspiring piece of art operating in person. The illusion of motion is stunning, especially when external lighting temporarily rips it away and then fades, allowing it to return. Wow.
I was lucky enough to be able to witness this art project up close and live. It is truly one of the most amazing pieces of art that I have ever seen and experienced.
By far the most ambitious and beautiful of the entries. The scale and complexity of the project is incredible. The commentary fantastic. This is truly pedal driven art!!
I love 3D zoetropes so much.

bike powered generators have been around for years. they can power whatever you like.
my business is interactive art that happens to utilize this technology.
