no matter how many times i listen to the Dalai Lama, or how much he inspires me, i just can't stop imagining him as Yoda. Next time he speaks, close your eyes and listen, to Yoda.
@Trickywoo12 That's great! Did you know Lucus designed all that stuff straight out of Buddhism. This was due to his influence from J. Campbell's work.
Thank you for posting this video. I have been on three small-group retreats (Buddhist-Christian dialogue) with the Dalai Lama. I had the honor of playing the shakuhachi for the meditations on these retreats. Just being in his strong, beautiful presence has changed my life for the better. One little bit of feedback: I like the music that you've added, but sometimes it's too loud, so that it's hard to understand what His Holiness is saying. Turn down the music volume a bit. Thanks.
thank you for your feedback - YES - I heared that I should turn down the music - but I did not create the MIX - it's on the CD 'Tibet Impressions' by Chris Hinze ... so I cannot change it...
This video is perfect - perfect combination with music and this wonderful slow prayer of HH DL. Cut off all "I" ... Theres no "I like it" or "I dont like it" or other clingings. It comes cleary from inspiration and it inspire itself. It is simple this: Greatness. Greatness of Wisdom at action. Artists around the whole World appreciade this messege from His Hollines Dalai Lama - The Ocean of Wisdom that speaks by the sound of waves on the ocean. OMG thats poetry ... but poetry are also artists :)
@PlanetarPL - Thank you for your commentary - it's always so satisfying that someone out there 'gets it' ... that it reaches someone's heart and touches that innate essential goodness - the light in the center ... thank you ...
it's a shame for the bad mix. If the purpose of the video is the message, than the music shouldn't be there... it's alienating the message, and controlling the mood of the "reader-listener"; precisely what the message is not trying to do/make...

STOP giving more advice you deceitful two faced nepotistic monk. your speeches have created split in your community, stop your political agenda for your personal gain and start doing some prayers for welfare after death!
OM MANI PADME HUM * We appreciate this video, because our Dharma art project is WISDOM WITHOUT BORDERS, including VISUAL DHARMA-Buddhist teachings for 3rd millenium.
Together we become vegetarians and pray/meditate for inner & outer peace on the planet.
Very beautiful but it seems the balance of music to voice is not perfect - music a little too loud. maybe the video creator will read this and comment?
I filmed the video in Dharamsala but the Audio I took as it is from Chriz Hinze's CD "TIBET IMPRESSIONS I". So I have no influence on the music/voice-balance.
We are all extremely blessed and lucky to be alive in this Time with such a Guru with such wisdom and teachings of compassion to guide us through our lives...to develop true Budhichita
No democratic leader in the world today would condemn or stop any form of religious worship.
Even the Pope dare not speak against other religions anymore.
Today's world leaders must show acceptance and tolerance of all forms of worship even the worship of Dorje Shugden.
The Dharamsala Tibetan Govt only has a few years left and they are on the decline. Their existence depends on Dalai Lama. Once he passes,THEY ARE FINISHED.
I advise them to stop all this anti shugden rhetoric.
om swasti! sex is not "sexual misconduct." The view of sexual misconduct is sex that harms a person, for example by breaking vows, or not willful, or out of desire to control someone...etc. As Buddhists, we should work from the causal realm not the result realm. Sexual desire is a result of having a human life. If we continue to practice spiritually, naturally our sexual drive will be less overpowering and transformed into a more loving act and if it's not beneficial it will go away.
I respect HHDL very much, but do not approve of his views re. homosexuality and art. Theologians should not interfere with such things. They are material, and I believe they should remain on the material plain.
I do not know about the Dalai Lama's view towards homosexuality. So I can't say anything about that.
As far as art is concerned:
Are you an artist yourself?
If so - you would be the first artist I meet who considers art something of the material plain. Non artist do, of course. Even some art-dealers and art-critics.
To most artist I speak with - and certainly to myself - art is a way to deal with the essential aspects of human existence and the miraculous nature of creation as a whole.
Well, basically He says that He thinks homosexuality is kind of OK... just as long as homosexuals don't have sex. Yes, I am an artist, and I have never considered the art itself to be spiritual because it is impermanent. The process, however, certainly is spiritual - which means that a person can also be an artist if he just... sits and thinks. Art is indefinable. Despite all efforts, no one has been able to clearly define what it is, so to suggest that it is or isn't beneficial is absurd.
What His Holiness is saying is that an artist like Chris Hinze (the musician who recorded the statement and made the music and who HHDL is actually speaking to) can use his craft to "give people hope".
Now that's of course something I can agree with. It is one of the reasons why I make these little films - because I believe they are somewhat uplifting; and there is always space for something uplifting in this world.
The thing with sex is, that we are born with two subtle energies, male (method) and female (wisdom), and if we waste these energies which are found in our sexual fluids then we are losing this energy. It is not that homosexuality is sexual misconduct, it is that pointless sex is sexual misconduct because you are wasting all of that vital energy which can be used for yogas and meditation. There are ways for you to have sex and not waste this energy, but it takes a lot of training.
sorry thats not what i ment...love is love. ur right. what i ment was like everybody, straight, bi, gay, trans, we shoulndn't just have sex for the fun of it...or w/e if you catch my drift...i would never degrade the gay community or any other...i myself am bi
OK - sorry. I see what you mean. My husband and I are legally married, and we have been together for 5 years now. We believe in a monogamous, sincere relationship, and have no time for friends who think it's OK to have sex as often as you like, and with as many people as possible. Strangely, most non-monogamous people we know are heterosexual.

In old Tibet before 1950, 88 percent of Tibeten people were born as slaves. Slaves didn't belong to themselves, they belong to their slave masters who occupied 5% of Tibeten population at that time. Slaves could be sold, bought, abused at the will of their masters!
I admire Lincoln, the greatest former US president because he abolished the slave system in Southern America. Lincoln is always the hero in my heart.
Those Chinese who abolished the slave system in Tibet in 1950s are heros either!
If Tibetans were serfs or slaves before the invasion of the independent country of Tibet began in 1949 many thousands of loyal Tibetans wouldn't have surrounded HH the 14th Dalai Lama's palace in 1959 to protect him.
To find slavery in the PRC in 2009 go to PRCs prisons.
He should be in his Temple and to think about how to make his believers happy. BUT look at! He acted as a POLITIKER!! And i don't think, that the believers are happy.
cant understand everything because the sound in the background is too loud.

The history of every country is bloody.
European history is full of senseless wars and bloodshed.
But the past is past and today is now.
You cannot justify wrong conditions in the presents by wrong conditions of the past.
Europe has evolved - Human Rights are upheld and protecting each individual.
It is time for China to make this step in it's history too.
And as long as they haven't made the step - they should at least stop suppressing people.
