  • Is it possible to use PDF files in PowerPoint? If possible, please email me at uguyh3377@gmail.com

  • I've bought your book but I regret that I did not order the DVD. Can I just purchase your DVD separately. Fyi - you excel series had helped me so much.

    Thank you.

  • It kind of is 10 x faster by remodeling the Database so it can use Vlookups ... but I don't want to remodel the Database all the time I have something similar... the power of sumifis made me lacy, so to say. But its slow.

    Anyhow ... thx in advance.

  • @ElmarBischof , SUMIFS is pretty fast as you will see in the playlist. Things like Helper Columns are usually a great way to speed things up. I have just recently made a few videos about Helper Columns: EMT 802 and Mr Excel excelisfun Trick 81. More to come also.

  • Could you recommend one of your videos regarding an alternative to an =sumifis Function ? (Trick #203 did not solve it, although was generally nice as all of them)

Once one uses 100 to xyz sumifis Functions containing 4 to 5 criteria within one Workbook it starts to get a bit slow at recalculating - as one changes a key-indicator that effects all of them for instance.

  • @ElmarBischof , go to plaYLIST AND LOOK AT THE fORMULA eFFICENCY sERIES. tHE SOLUTION TOTALLY DEPENDS ON MANY FACTORS.

  • Hi Mike!

In one of your videos you have mentioned the key short-cut for copying Conditional Formatting Rules when in "Conditional Formatting Rules Manager" window. But I have forgotten the short-cut and the video it was mentioned in. I've spent HOURS looking for it but no luck... Could you please, please, please remind me of the short-cut?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • I do not know the keyboard for:

copying Conditional Formatting Rules when in "Conditional Formatting Rules Manager" window

  • @natabelo

Also had to duplicate a lot of continental formatting with slightly different formulas but similar Formatting rule.

Copy it to the cells to the right as often as you need it ... change the Formulas, select all the fields and then past them into the original cell with Merge (Alt+H+V+G). (Take care that you use the right reference type within your formulas or it might get scrambled at merging)

  • @ElmarBischof , to really speed things up, post question to Mr Excel Message Board and get specific help for your project.

  • Hi,

I've been a big fan for a while. I have a quick problem and don't seem to find a video that can help me out (maybe my search skills are not that good :) ).

Anyways, my problem is that I have the same data elements coming every week and I want to store those with that particular date in order to create a database. Any suggestion?

    Thanks!

  • I'm using Excel 2007 and I had a specific question. I have some raw data that is from A1:H500 and I made three pivot tables out of the same data. Those three pivot tables then feed into a model that I created. The only problem I have is that in my three pivot tables each of them have a "report filter" that is independent of all the other pivot tables. Can I create one "report filter' that will automatically filter all three pivot tables or will I have to filter each pivot table one at a time?

i am using window 7, will it be able to do that?

  • Hello sir.

I am copying the data from the source file to the target file where i want to do data validqations.

    So i have given the formaula as "=IFERROR(IF([MasterFile.xlsx]PList!A6=" "," ",[MasterFile.xlsx]PList!A6)," ")"

but in the new row where there is no data in the source file. I get the value as 0 instead of a null value.

  • Hi,

Thanks a lot for the info.

I purchased the ebook slaying excel dragons from mrexcel.com. However I couldnt find any exercises that I could work on to test my skill-once I was done with the topic.

Could you please let me know if there any exercises that I could get. Also, I would like to download the excel workbooks.

  • If you read the introduction to the book it shows web address to download files. Here is the address:

    people.highline.edu/mgirvin/ExcelIsFun.htm

  • Thanks for the info. Do you have also the data in the form of ebook or pdf-as that would be easier option to obtain access.

I am in India and thinking that it would take sometime for the dvd to be shipped.

  • If you are in India, I do not think you can buy the e-book, but flipkart.com in India has paper book for a good price. You can get the "Slaying Excel Dragon" e-book from mrexcel.com for $19 and then you can just download it. Here is the link for the e-book:

And table 2 has different types of apples (red, green etc), cirtus etc. I want to be able to select a name Say John and then i get a selection of apple types to choose from.

  • here is a play list of videos for Daat Validation:

    youtube[dot]com/user/excelisfun#g/c/0EB55D99E9CF7E13

  • Mike, thanks for your response, i looked t your recepie example. However i need the rseults of the vlookup to show up in a drop down format as well. So say first i seleced the name of the person using data validation (drop down list), based on my name selection i want next cell to get populated with a dropdown of the food choices based on the food type the like.

  • Watch the video above that shows how to use this channel. Then go to the Data Validation playlist of videos. In the first 5 - 6 videos in tht playlist, there are 3 videos that show how to do DV based on DV list.

  • I really appreciate all your videos, I've been studying them for a little while now and they have proven to be extremely helpful. Just wanted to say thank you and that I will surely purchase your book and support the cause. Thanks!

  • I am glad that the videos are helpful! Thanks for supporting the cause: Excel is fun & Excel makes our job easier!

  • Hi, For some reason I cannot open the page containing all the workbooks to download! help!!

Yes, the college server computers are down. I have no idea when they will be back up, maybe in a few hours...

I can't get any of my work done because they are down...

  • Years ago, my first project your vids helped me build a bankruptcy calc workbook at a law firm while my co-workers were using calculators. I churned out plans in a 10th of the time and could adjust complex variables/assets on the fly without starting the calc over. I'm no techie, I'm a paralegal halfway through law school; but your vids have allowed me to have an amazing new job against steep competition. I always recommend your site, you are a godsend! Sincerest thanks & keep up the hard work!

  • Thanks, Scythian61 ! That is why I post the videos! I totally agree with you & from my own experience, I have come to the same conclusions: Since everyone is required to know Excel & so few do, the best way to beat the competition is to know Excel well. What always amazes me is that this fact is so obvious & yet so few people leverage this fact in their career and life. After so many years of free videos, be sure to support the cause & buy the new book "Slaying Excel Dragons" – DVD out soon too

  • Congratulations and many thanks for the 1400 videos!!

  • Thanks!
