  • Hi, I bought a ps3 with a non working drive from ebay. How would I know if the circuit board below the drive is original?

  • I have half a drive, will it work?

  • why put the old circuit board on the new drive? dont the new drives come with their own?

  • @dmoneyxd

Hey you need to replace the PCB board because its locked to the motherboard and wont work with just any board. you can flash it too but that would require an advance knowledge on the process.

  • @Jmforever well my cd drive is fucked cause my ps3 fell and i basically need a new one, so i just replace the board unto the new drive and itl work?

  • @dmoneyxd

yeah, you can do one of two things; replace just the lens (which is alot cheaper) or replace the whole drive and just install the board.

  • PS3 is crap. Sony puts out crappy hardware that clunks out in a few years when your outta luck with no warranty.

  • Thanks!!! I've just repair my second ps3!!!!!!

  • i have the 40gig fat ps3 and have sent 4 ps3's back to sony and all ps3's won't read blu ray. but will read dvd's. now this is my 5th ps3 so I'm going to try and replace the blu ray drive. i needed to know what type of blu ray drive I'm looking for. i don't want the same make/company sony put in the systems. i want the best quality blu ray. or would it be better to get a ps3 slim? thanks guys

  • I replaced the blu ray drive and it worked for 3 days then it stopped recognizing discs, then it stopped pulling them into the drive. Any ideas on what might cause this?

  • I would like to buy a drive form you. A ps3 fat model, but the circuit board is located on the inside of drive, slightly different from your video. Thanks

  • I have one of the first ps3's that came out i think its a 60 gig...My game is stuck inside the machine it wont eject...how can i fix it...if i need to buy a new one can you plz email me at dj_rhythm@msn.com can i buy one off of you

  • Your fat

  • Hey dude I've got a problem you said all logic boards are the same and connections but mines different what can I do about this?

  • I got a problem with 1st generation playstation 3 it plays blue ray games for about 6 mins and then it loses sound and then the game freezes when I quit game then it says invalid disk and it does it with all my games. Can you tell me a easy way how to fix this.

  • @azeemiscool clean your lens prob

  • @20legend you have to keep the circuit board from the working ps3. @4:10.

  • what if you have a 2nd donor dead ps3. Im taking the blue ray drive from it and swapping it into my ps3 with a dead drive. would i still have to swap the circuit board from my dead one to the other one? or can i use the circuit board thats attached to working one out of the donor ps3?

  • hi lad, iv taken apart the haye wire from both sides which is normally atttached to the blue ray harddrive , and now i dont know how it goes back into the ps3, any advice plz?

  • What is your eBay user name. I could barely understand it!

  • Thanks it worked for me! I almost gave up tried alot of other things. I'm glad I found your post didn't know about swaping the circuit board. Thanks again!

  • Thanks it WORKED!

  • How much do you sell your drives for?

  • Comment removed

  • So I take it the PS3 Blu-Ray drive is keyed to the motherboard via the drives firmware like the Xbox 360. Can't you just extract the firmware from the old drive and flash it to the new ... isn't their a software tool like JungleFlasher for the PS3 for this purpose?

  • @RCTruckPulling

    No unfortunately.

  • Where do you order your drives from? A friend of mine has an older 40GB ps3 I sold him years ago that finally stopped reading disks and he is thinking of trying to fix it.

  • I wanted to sell the blueray player cuz the PS3 got YLOD how much is it?

  • @markimako i fix ylod for 40$

  • Would any PS3 fat bluray work with each other, for example, if I was to purchase a PS3 Blu-ray replacement part that was removed from a PS3 40GB/80GB fat non backward compatibility, to work on a PS3 Fat 60GB backward compatibility model, would that work? or do I HAVE to buy the right model part.

  • @markhorneyuk it depends.., if you know the model number of both PS3 consoles you can check it out with a laser model guide. search for it i can't link in comments

  • I'm not exactly the brightest Crayon in the box when it comes to figuring out which stuff I need to do the job. I am only good at taking things apart and putting them together again. Lol

For the original PS3, the one with playback compatibility, can you message me with which blue-ray drive model I can replace the broken one with? If you could do this for me it would be highly appreciated..

    Thanks!

  • @xXJanValentineXx hey, you might have already found the answer, if not or else for anyone else with the same question: search for a ps3 laser model/compatibility guide/chart. you can find your model number on the backside of you PS3. and don't be lazy by replacing the whole bluray DVD drive (cost more), because that won't work! ^ ^

  • what is your ebay account name

  • Hey whats your ebay name i looking for a blu ray disk drive to buy...

  • I CHANGED MY BLU RAY DRIVE TODAY AND IT WONT SUCK IN DISCS NO BLUE LIGHT ASWELL :((( I WASTED 48 POUNDS HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • it fuckin worked!!!!!! thanks buddy!!!

  • I have question, with my blu ray drive it's not the lens itself that's messed up, it's the black case with the gears thats all messed up and a piece snapped off, when i buy a new blu ray drive does it come with that part with the gears?

  • Hi Billy, I have a 60 gig ps3 with a drive problem. The disc inserts and ejects just fine. however, the disc doesn't spin in the drive. It ejects the same direction it cam out and you don't hear anything spinning when you install the disc. Do I need a new bluray drive or can it be something else. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike

  • how much does a blu-ray player cost?

  • mate just replaced my 60gb blu ray drive with a new bluray and it works.. just needed to swap my pcp board over and success..thanks man.chur

  • Ok wtf I replaced the blu ray drive in my ps3 exactly the same way you did and it still doesn't read any discs, I'm getting very pissed off here because I can't figure out wtf is going on!!!!!!

  • Where can I find u on eBay ?

  • I have a 60GB PS3 can I replace with a 40GB?

  • what if the disc driver doesnt come with the black or red cord?

  • Do you have any blu ray drives for sale? I need one for my 40 GB system ASAP!

  • @butterfly153239 I have a blueray drive. :O) Contact me if you like.

  • my ps3 will take the game but wont read it, and then ejects the game back out. help please!

  • Just had my blue ray drive replaced at a repair shop in my town and the guy that fixed my ps3 said that all the ps3 that he been getting have been the ps3 slims that needed the blue ray drive replaced

  • i need a new drive for my phat 80 gig model how can i contact you

  • Lame question but how do you know if the issue is either the drive circuitboard or the Blue Ray player? I was thinking of buying an 80gb "broken" PS3 off ebay seeing your video it does not look to difficult to replace the drive.

  • why would i have to keep that circet board?

cant i just use the one that comes with the new blue ray drive??

    PLEASE RESPOND :)

  • @num2bersRsilen3t You have to keep the circuit board that corresponds to your PS3. Otherwise the PS3 won't recognize the new drive because the circuits are different from the ones in your PS3.

  • @num2bersRsilen3t

The circuit board on your old drive is marred to the systems motherboard, so you need to swap them out. It's not hard and will take you 5 minutes tops, its just screwing the screws out and putting them back in.

  • Wow...you saved me 150.00 bucks! Did it myself in under an hour.

  • Hey how can u message me some how. I need a blue ray drive for my ps3 slim! Help!

  • thanks for this vid, i will be needing to do this in a few days

  • hi, I'm looking to replace my blueray drive in my phat PS3 it's not spinning discs. You say you sell drives, how do you I get in contact with you? Do you have a website? I kind of want one now, I live in LA.

  • ok I replaced my drive, still won't read disks...what else could it be???

  • @zdw0986 same as me, if you fix it let me know PLEASE

  • Do you still sell these drives? I am going to buy one in a few weeks, and I need to find one online to buy.

  • I need to replace a disc drive for a friend. Do I need to flash the drive with the same firmware as the original drive when i replace it? Thanks.

  • Can anyone answer my question?

I got a bunch of PS3's for parts. One PS3that I have has it's blu-ray drive in pieces, and it is missing the circuit board. I was going to buy a new blu-ray drive, but upon watching this video... I realize, am I screwed? Or is there a way to rig up a new blu-ray drive without the original blue-ray circuit board?

  • since I will be using the same circuit of my drive with the replacement, I will not have to marry it up at all.....correct?

  • Do you have a blu-ray drive for a 120GB PS3 Slim?

  • hey my ps3 cd drive don't look like yours and is it ok to put a different one in or it has to be the same one

  • I fixed my PS3 thanks to you. I ordered some part a while ago and fixed it myself. the question for me right now though is how long will it work for, now that i've gotten the parts to make it work. if it lasts at least a year, then i would be happy. obviously you would want your PS3 to last a very long time but considering the parts are refurbished, you can't expect a whole lot. i hope my PS3 is able to work for a year at least. thanks again for your instruction. very helpful.

  • Ok so what you're telling me is that I cannot just simply replace the dvd drive for the ps3 you have to take the old circut board out and put it in the replacement dvd drive. Is this what you're trying to tell me?

  • Hey my ps3 doesn't read any discs will doing this fix it? Please reply thank you.

  • Dude, awesome video and expanation. Really helped me out. Thanks so much!!!!!!!

  • Hey Billy my ps3 is a 40 gb model any advise?

  • my blu ray didnt have the last wire to disconnect, is that bad?

  • Hi

Do you still sell these BlueRay Drives?! What's your ebay id?! I couldnt get it on the video correctly, tried laptopsnsack, laptopsinsack but couldnt get to you

  • Ok this is a little off topic but, I advise everyone to use the Closed Captioning (Transcribe Audio) and check out the video at about 1:50 and watch for about 10 seconds. You'll get a good laugh :) Cheers!

  • i have a first gen 80gb model, I recently went through the ylod and took my ps3 apart, carefully put it back together after fixing that. System now powers up perfect but now for some reason my bd drive wont suck any discs in, yet the sensor acknowledges that there is a disc being inserted by flashing the blue light. Any chance this is a simple fix, or will I have to get an entirely new drive?

  • hey great video man! i have a quick question, My Ps3 has been performing like crap when it comes to loading anything while playing GT5. patch after patch.. nothing helps. I get that feeling its my bluray reader.. it makes odd noises every now and then as well. any pointers?

  • hi i replaced drive with a new one but not regitering on ps3. i put everything together ok. My old one was cluncky and i have put that back on and it now seems the same as my new one which is quiet but not registering.

  • @MM34ify If you have indeed made sure to swap the circuit board properly and since there are many more models of PS3 now than at the time I made this video, made sure you used the right model blue-ray drive and it's still not registering disks then that only leave a few possibilities. Either you have purchased a drive that is also broken (sadly a lot of people sell their broken ones as working or "as-is"), your board is what is broken, or it is something else and needs to be fixed by sony sadly.

  • @pcphantom1978

Thanks for your help..it turned out to be a broken drive and after getting another of the seller it worked straight away. Thanks again.

  • @MM34ify

Thx for your help. The drive plays cds and dvds and the one i purchased also does the same so i am stumped. I have a CECHG03 and the guy who sold me the drive (from a 60gb) has sold hundreds and told me it would work in my model although i have seen conflicting posts saying it is the right drive or not.

  • do u still happen to have any more disk readers left 4 sale?

  • so if my blu ray drive board is damaged im screwed

  • 60gb*

  • Excellent just fixed my ps3 fat 6th

  • and you did a great job with this video, it was really informative, clear and helpful.

  • and how would you be able to tell if the parts that you bought is correct with the PS3 machine? does each part of the PS3 has a serial number attached to it? or certain design? reply soon thanks

  • where do you get the parts for the PS3?

  • where can a buy a new drive

  • thank you sweaty guy for schooling me :)

  • All Ive done since I bought my PS3 back in 2007 is rep how great it is, and laugh when all the XBOX360s my friends own continuously break. Now my lense is done. At least its good to know 312,000 other people have the same problem.

  • Alright im building a ps3 from mother board up. Does every ps3 have its own spleacle dvd drive like xbox or can I just go out and buy a dvd drive and it will work on the motherboard??

  • Thanks man, this is really helpful, now I just need to buy a new drive.

  • Thanks a million, dude. Got my drive replaced with no problem thanks to your guide. :)

  • I need one for a 40 gig...do you have a store on ebay or where can I get one

  • hi, i have the 40g. chechgo3. 410 twin laser model. i already have the logic board but i have bought a new blu ray drive. do i just follow this video, or is my ps3 different

  • Comment removed

  • can i your email or phone number i need to get a new blu ray drive because mine isnt working

  • i love you my ps3 is now working what a fool i almost threw my board and old blue ray drive away how lucky was i to see the video before i made a fatal mistake !!!!!!!!omg, i changed the boards over and bobs your auntie the ps3 lives agian wahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • how can i buy one from you

  • Would this be cheaper than.sending it to sony

  • i got an error code 80029941. my Blu Ray discs wont load/play/eject. well ejecting sometimes takes ages. i got reconnected to the net last week after 2years being offline. my update was 2 something and went to 3.70 as it was the latest update. do you know if me buying a new disc player will sort out my problem. ive got a 40gig, bought it in october/november 2007. any help would be great :)

  • If i broke the small red and black connector wire...what can I do? WIll the new blu ray drive still work without that wire?

  • @fks1980 The red wire is connected to the blueray drive itself and attaches to the PCB by a clip. If you broke it on the old one, it really doesn't matter. If you broke it on the new one you'll have to find a way to reconnect it, maybe with a small wire splice kit or by resoldering it depending on where you broke the wire. I'd suggest taking the wire from the old one, pulling it off all the way at the root of the connection, then using that to connect to the new drive.

  • @fks1980 dude if u did that your gonna have to buy a new ps3!

  • Hi, I would like to purchase a Blu Ray drive from you for my PS3 80GB console. I could not find your seller information on ebay. Can you provide your seller id?

    Best Regards

  • i purchased a new blu ray drive for my 80gb because it was not taking the discs i put it in and ps3 turned on tried to put in a disc still didnt take it would it be the ribbon by any chance if u no please reply

  • You saved me a huge headache man much obliged

  • Hey dude does this fix the error code 80010514 and if so how much are your blue Ray drives?

by the way, what is your ebay id? I didn't hear it right...

  • Thank you!!!! I got my system working again finally.... now to get back to the gaming!

  • i just opened mine up using a differen tuorial and i removed the blu ray ribbon from the ps3 end rather than the blu ray end.. and the lil black tab snapped off.. ive stuck it together with selotape but now the blu ray drive has no suction and wont play games :(

  • nice, now all i gotta do isbuy the new drive. LOL should have watched this b4, i actually forced the lid open and broke all the little parts that r connected to ps3, LOL. wats ur ebay name or account, msg me plz. n also i have 160 gb fat model, would that b a problem

  • dude why are you SO sweaty?

  • @HPDefense14 "I was watching Cops"

  • just replaced the blue ray drive, worked for like two hours, then yellow light of death. Going to check all the wires, fuck knows. Next tool I get out mite be my Estwing.......

  • So your saying that if i buy a brand new Blu Ray drive i still have to use the original motherboard from my defective blu ray drive or else it wont work. BTW i am using a ps3 slim.

  • Great video, just fixed my ps3 job dun. "cheers"

  • Okay I do have a question though, what model PS3 did you use to test these drives with? How would I know that the drive I buy from you will be compatible with my system or even my blu-ray drive's circuit board for that matter?

  • Actually nevermind I just realized all I gotta do is take off the metal plate that they must not have had on the 60gb models.

  • I own an 80gb ps3 that they made after they started taking out the backwards compatibility, the launch model 60gb blu-ray drive has the circuit board exposed like we see in the video however on mine the circuit board is not exposed, how do I get at the circuit board on mine?

  • What is your ebay tag?

  • nicca wit the sweat doe

  • So if anyone can answer this let me know.

i got a ps3 and it doesnt read disc so im guessing its the blu ray driver, so if i am going to replace this should i get the same model blu ray or what. i have a cechg01 and would just like to know if i have to get the same one in order to replace it. thanks.

  • @Mougishouse hi, you will have to get same one has the ribbons are different on different models. i just done mine, i got drive from a 40 gig and mine is 60 gig and they was different, but 40 and 80 gig model are the same.

  • @MrPacey18 alright thanks for the help man.

  • Someone answer if you know!!! I have a ps3 that was droped in a pool.... Everything work except the disc drive, it doesn't let me take discs out... I have another ps3 that got the yellow light of death. I was wondering if i can just take the Whole Blueray player or disc drive out of the one that got Yellow light and put it in the one that was dropped in the pool? Do you think itll work?

  • I HAVE A QUESTION CAN SOMEONE ANSWER PLEASE?

My blu ray drive motherboard is broken. I've heard you can't replace it but what can I do now? Can I replace the blu ray drive AND the motherboard with the blu ray drive? Please help!

  • Hey I have a problem where my PS3 seems to think a disc is in the drive even though there isn't, with the blue light staying on and therefore will eject nothing and obviously won't suck in any discs either, any suggestions ? All help appreciated, thanks :)

  • @clissold08 had same prob i changed the cable under drive and it worked fine.

  • @MrPacey18 Cheers mate that must be the problem. Did you buy a new cable and if so where from ?

  • @clissold08 hey, i bought the ribbon not cable from ebay only couple quid.

  • I hope you read this will this work for the ps3 slim as well?

  • credit to ub3rb3n3. Transcribe to audio: 1:58 "I'm in order to take the lid off the penis" haha

  • Sir, just tried this, replacing dud bluray in otherwise good machine. Worked like a charm. Finally able to watch that Apocalypse Now blu!

Many thanks for the tutorial - couldn't have done it witout cha!

  • Cleaning the lens didnt work for me, i just bought a blu ray block and replaced it myself and it works perfectly now!

  • Hey, I did this, and my ps3 spins disks, but will not read them, its backwards compatible so I tried ps1,2,and 3 non of them read. Any idea why?

  • Hey, I did this, and my ps3 spins disks, but will not read them, its backwards compatible so I tried ps1,2,and 3 non of them read. Any idea why?

Also, before my ps3 could play downloaded games. Now it can not play downloaded games. I have noticed that when no blue ray drive is in the ps3, it can play downloaded movies but not downloaded games.

Does this indicate I have missed up a connection some where?

  • I did this today it actually works, I had one with a broken bluray and one that got YLOD today, so I made a good one out of the two broken ones. It wont work unless u do the microboard swap, I tried just swapping them straight over, doesn't work. NEED to change those boards then it works fine

  • @lilblitz Hi,

Did you replace your busted blu-ray drive with a bluray drive designed for the PS3 or some random bluray drive?

  • @crywolf30 No I had 2 ps3's one with a broken bluray and one with a faulty motherboard, so i took the good bluray and put it in the ps3 with the YLOD (faulty motherboard) and it works

  • @crywolf30 my bad i meant i took the one with the good motherboard and put the working bluray in it

  • Will I need to use the circuit board from my blue ray drive if I'm going to replace it with a blue ray drive from another console? Or could I use the circuit board belonging to that drive?

  • @OuttStanding You always need to use the board that came with your system... The blue ray drive circuit board is tied to the motherboard of the console it came with as a security protection to prevent people from using modified or after market drive controller boards that will allow the system to do things it's not intended to.

Because of this, no other circuit board (from the blue ray drive) will ever work with your PS3 console.

  • @pcphantom1978 This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for, that's why the blu-ray wasn't showing any discs!!! Ugh.... *tears PS3 apart again* -_-

    Thank you guys.

  • How much does it cost to replace a blu ray drive? What about just the laser mech? I have a ps3 80gb 2usb port. My little brother shoved a psp disc inside my ps3 and I was able to get it out. But I accidentally busted one of the ribbon cables and the place where the ribbon cable connects. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i am trying to change my 80gb ps3s blueray drive but some things are different. 1. the silver ribbon connecting ps3 to drive doesnt click in place at all, was originally held by tape. 2. the circuit board was hidden under a metal casing 3. there was no tiny wire connecting the circuit board to drive and 4 there were no little mounting pegs on the drive at all. am i screwwed? i had intended to replace it with a drive from a 40gb console will this work?

  • what drive do i get for a 80gb model, and are you selling on ebay?

  • LMFAO CC SAYS PENIS AT 1:55 to 2:02

  • hi i have a qucik question when i was replacing my blu-ray drive with another working one the working one did not have the motherboard attached is that a problem and when i start my ps3 and put a game in it does not recognize it.

  • thank you!

  • hi my bluray drive don't work what site do you sell them on and do you have to decode it first thanks.

  • @ghamilton183 i am selling a extra blu ray drive that i have i am willing to sell it if your interested.

  • How do you know what blu-ray drive to buy? I dunno if mine is a KES or otherwise can anyone please share some knowledge?

  • @Amerimokkka

    wwwDOTps3laserDOTcom/ps3-laser-compatibility-chart/ go to that site...

line up your model # with the correct laser serial...

  • @guy233445 thanks brother, I decided to hack it instead, I was on 3.55 and most games work this way without disc, no online compatibility just yet, but given the fact that I need to spend money on a brand new system and buy a laser I took the chance! Now I can play tons of games I get for free...yaaay

    UP YOURS SONY!

  • are there any videos doing this on a 120GB PS3? My game is having issues reading disc now and everyone saying it is the blue-ray drive.

  • Dude....Your so sweaty...

  • Mate, your guide fixed my PS3 flawlessly. So easy to follow, thankyou!!!

  • i dropped my ps3 slim on accident while i was moving it & i tripped over a wire.. anyways my ps3 slim now wouldn't accept any disc no more and it looks like its out of place is the blue ray disk drive replace able & fixable??? answers anyone???

  • what if the person you bought the ps3 from completely took out the bluray drive? could you make a tutorial to put it in there?

  • so if the drive is faulty you can just buy a new one and replace (simple)? unlike xbox 360 where they place fw (keys) to stop you from replacing

    oh ... ok the
