@condimentman54 Me too, the first time I saw it on TV I got massive goosebumps... Still do... I would have loved an episode showing when it got built.
In Egyptian mythology, Taweret (also spelled Taurt, Tuat, Taueret, Tuart, Ta-weret, Tawaret, and Taueret, and in Greek, Θουέρις "Thoeris" and Toeris) is the Egyptian Goddess of childbirth and fertility.
en . wikipedia . org / wiki / Taweret
Notice that pregnant women are dying later in time (when the statue is damaged).
Not really, like in the 70s Ethans mom gave birth perfectly.
I'm guessing that when Ben released the gas to kill everyone in Dharmaville it created a toxic gas in the air that never went away and so caused women to die at birth
@FLUDZOR Are you sure she was impregnated on the island as well? Isn't that what causes the mothers to die? If she got pregnant off the island, then it wouldn't be a problem, would it? As I recall, the reason they take Sun to the fertility center is to find out whether the child was conceived on the island or not. I'm sticking with Dorfkanal and the Egyptian theory.
@Dorfkanal ( Te;w'rt / Θουέρις) the Egyptian Goddess of birth and fertility. CHECK THIS OUT: Taweret was seen as one who protected against evil by restraining it. ( As Jacob protects against evil by restraining the Man in Black )
Originally Tawaret and Apep (evil) were a couple, but when Apep was recognized as evil she was then seen as 'chaining him'. Now, does that not fit %100 with the Lost mythology of Jacob, MIB etc?
Ya I did. Also in the second season finale when it was first encountered, it showed the left foot, but at the season 5 finale, it depicted a right foot.
well i guess that if you look the statua from he back or front its with separated legs, but at the jacob scene we see it from another angle, but tthey look clse to each other anyways
The god Sobek, which was depicted as a crocodile or a man with the head of a crocodile was a powerful and frightening deity; in some Egyptian creation myths, it was Sobek who first came out of the waters of chaos to create the world. As a creator god, he was occasionally linked with the sun god Ra.
this is SOBEK.Sobek's ambiguous nature led some Egyptians to believe that he was a repairer of evil that had been done, rather than a force for good in itself, for example, going to Duat to restore damage done to the dead as a result of their form of death.
head rest/short dress looks taweret. hathor/isis have a full on dress. this dress is short, taweret wears this, is topless & stands on 2 ankhs, this is most probable.
What would have been awesome is if Jin had said "Four-toed statue". Since the other three weren't there, they would have looked at him like he was crazy LOL.
It could be richard the man that never age's but can die! maybe he was a god in it?? id love an explanation also to how the black rock ended up on the island if they had time traveled to then it would be cool!
I'm not sure it's Isis but rather Taweret goddess of childbirth and pregnancy. I believe you are right about the red herring, nothing is safe to assume on LOST. I do think that Juliet could be a reincarnation of Taweret.
1 more point, this statue was full at this time and we know that women can still have children in the 70s. i think the statue is destroyed when women stop being able to have children
alot of ppl believe it to be Anubis but i think it is either Horus or Tawaret. Tawaret makes most sense. god of fertility, it wears the same crown as this statue and it also carries 2 Ankh (symbol for eternal life, also the necklace that amys husband wears.) whereas horus and anubis only carry 1 Ankh and a staff. thats my views anyway
the four toes have been explained in a podcast as being just a red herring; it has no deeper meaning.
They actually planned originally for the foot to have six toes but it looked weird so they gave it four toes instead...as if that doesn't look just as weird, anyhow the number of toes is not imporant, merely the fact that it's not five perhaps.
I think the statue breaking somehow had an effect on women giving birth on the island. Thats just my opinion. I really do think lost has some deep egyptian god stuff goin on.
...or maybe...it's just an Egyptian statue? And it has nothing to do with anyone on the Island? Y'know...just a thought. I'm thinking Horus, because Horus' healing eye is a symbol of renewal. And since Locke is back from the dead, I'd say he's pretty renewed.
Its more likely to be Tawaret, (Chek out the Headpiece/ Ear size, shape and height): getlostpodcast(dot)iimmgg(dot)com/image/d0b6038f7ebc62f35a713d6645569b08 Replace (dot) with .
The cross in the episode was the Ankh cross this represents life, fertility and in hieroglyphs Reproduction maybe something happens to the cross meaning no more babies... the four toed statue was gone in the 70's already, they flashed time skipped after they saw it!
where are the egyptians? where? :D and very strange they were able to build that, on rocks next to the sea, a beach next to that. maybe they get to find a mummy too
i hope is homer simpsons face thats on the statue that would shut you all up but a seriously doubt it i thought it might be richards face but i got told am wrong
I actually dont think it will have anything to do with anything your all on about. No offence like but it will most likely be somthing to do with the dharmna initiative it might be hanso or elouwise.
I'm pretty sure this is the four-toed statue. Remember that, in terms of how many hours there are left in this show, we're getting towards the end. We'll soon be entering 'answer mode' (as opposed to the 'question mode' of the first couple of seasons).
The writers simply don't have time to start introducing new mysteries and questions, so I see this as the start to the wrapping up of the four-toed statue storyline.
DUH of course this is the 4toed statue. the statue is from the egyptians. if u havent noticed, there are many hieroglyphics on the island (on the hatch with 108 minute thing, the room where ben went into to call the smoke monster, the walls of the temple, around the place where the smoke monster dragged the french group).
Not to mention the room with the frozen donkey wheel, the first time we see it when ben goes in there, the pillar where ben lights / gets the light from has hieroglyphs on :D
i think it's richard because he did have long hair before as we saw in 3.20, when Ben ran into him in the jungle...and i also was mad when locke pusshed that damned wheel! but, i'm pretty sure we'll find out what it looks like before the show ends. also, i think it was some sort of egyptian because it has the long hair, and cat-like pointed ears. the clothing looks like an egyptian, and the statue is wearing sandals as we saw in the season 2 finale
There have many theories of whether the statue is of Horus or of Anubis. Personally...I think there are two statues on this Island. And I don't think that this was our four toed statue. You should all check out these wikipedia pages, because both could explain a lot about our island. Anubis had four toes, because he was a dog. Horus was a falcon (Hurley bird anyone?) If I had more comment space, I could tackle so much. Bottom line: Horus represents life. Anubis represents death. E-mail me!
that is interesting. i think that looks more like horus than anubis. but then again my egyptian mythology isnt too strong. im still trying to figure how the egyptians could possibly be linked with this island.
The idea that the statue is Egyptian makes sense because the wormhole exit for the island is in North Africa, as displayed when both Ben and John left the island by turning the wheel.
thats what i thought too, but the thing is that would make alot of sense. in an episode where they show a major hint on the link to the egyptians, it would make a ton of sense that they connect richard to it.
richard has always been on the island. and that means he must have been around when the egyptians were on the island.
it makes complete sense for him to be an ex-pharaoh.
A couple of things is this episode might indicate links to Egypt, firstly that statue that looks like Horus from the back and secondly that Ankh necklace. Interestingly the Ankh signifies eternal life so Richard might have something to do with this.
I just watched it tonight, and I've been talking about it for hours and surfing the web. I'm totally convinced it's Egyptian. My family's tired of me talking about it.
This is a weird guess, but if it was a statue of anyone we knew, it would be jacob or richard, probably. Richard's got egyptian eyeliner (lol) and he is immortal, so he could be centuries old, and maybe some people decided to build a statue of him. and we've never actually seen richard's feet, so he might have four toes
I don't know why but that statue creeps me out....

its one of two possibilities;
-isis, who that could easily be from behind, fertility goddess on the island with the childbirth drama.
-the fact isis is so plainly logical is a red herring and its a cast member's face.

my final guess would be that juliet ends up in ancient times, saving babies like she has, and they view her as a personification of isis...
