Ohmigosh!!!!! this is a classic...my older sister had this album, she played it and it made me sit still on the floor.....We always lose the beautiful ones first...todah (thank you), I needed it...Adaiyah Baht Yahudah
Every time I hear this lovesong, this version, Mr. Lucien becomes so vividly ALIVE again. Beyond romantic, this is a classy & classically orgasmic rendering of a mad beautiful, hella sensuous & definitive lovesong. Jon Lucien does more than sing it, his vocals caress it, while his unique & distinctively island phrasing kisses the heart along with the ears. I'd dare anyone to play this song in a romantic setting & NOT get the draws! Bravo!
I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Jon...he was an amazing man, an honest and gifted man...I also know his long time recoding engineer Lou, who assisted him in recording his incredible talent and maximizing his gifts....both amazing people....<3
My thanks as well. This is such a romantic song and time in my life as a young my girlfriend at the time turned me onto this. I still think of her when I listen to it.
On thoes cold and lonely nights in my UM high rise the winter wind howling outside in the 70s. I use to lay on my bed in the dark and chill listening to this album.
Jobim's music stands alone....but, when Jon Lucian interpreted it...gooseflesh ! Thank you for the post....this has been a favorite of mine for many years !
I grew up listening to this album in the 70's as a child and it made a lifelong impression. Had the pleasure to see and meet him with my late Mom at Zanzibar Blue in Philly and Blue Note in NYC. Classic performer and gentleman.
THIS THE ULTIMATE SONGWRITER BESIDES DONNY HATHAWAY THIS ARTIST HAS HELPED SHAPE MY MUSICAL TASTE. I WILL MAKE A TOAST TO THIS MANS MUSICAL LEGACY. AND THERE WERE SO MANY GOOD ARTIST BUT THIS ISLAND QUITE STORM WAS LIKE NO OTHER THIS WILL FOREVER PLAY IN MIND
still have this on vinyl. - what a treasure. thank you for the post. my favorite verse " i'd be running and searching for you, like a river, that can't find the sea" ..... if i only had words.
What a beautiful rendition of this song. Have heard other takes, but prefer this one. Jon's voice is silk and satin. Thanks for providing part of the soundtrack to my life. R.I.P. Jon Lucien.
I love this Jobims classic. There many great renditions to this song in english and Portuguese-brazil (original version). In both languages it was written by the genius Tom Jobim. This interpretation is definitely one of the best I've heard.
believe it or not, I heard this song on the radio when i was in 7th grade over 30 years ago and no one knew what i was talking about for all these years and I finally found it about 5 years ago on the net, one of the most beautiful pieces of music that i have ever heard. Thanks for posting.
Hey steffen 127, ok it seems we have similar tastes in music. That rendition of Dindi which you recommended was a fitting tribute and one of the best I've ever heard. Thanks for posting. Here's one for you...Goldfinger by Rash Incantation feat. Katy Maurel on the album "Licensed to Chill". Actually, I just checked and someone has posted it here on U-Tube. Check it out . Again, thanks.
Same here. I just payed to download Soul Mate and wish it was up on YouTube to share. What an incredible man and voice. I met him many years ago in New York when my dad took us all back stage. Jon Lucien was a fellow Buddhist in my dad's group in Manhattan. I'll never forget meeting him. Saw him about 10 years ago again in New York and it was just like the first time...completely captivating!
What a fabulous singer. I saw him around 1991 at a club in Houston, Texas called Rockefellers.... . man, the guy was world class! He gave the sound man some stern words... Jon didn't like the music loud... he liked it very listenable and comfortable. Didn't know Jon, personally but, he comes across as a man with allot of class.
I had this very album for many many years and one day and oh so regrettably, I dropped it out of the sleeve and it shattered. I nearly cried because there were so many great and romantic memories attached to it for me and my better half. I have looked everywhere to replace it but no luck. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for posting, you can't imagine what it means to be able to hear this amazing voice performing this beautiful tune the way it was meant to be.
@19monk53 hey...i don't know where you are located but kemp mill records on branch avenue in temple hills, maryland has it. you can google their name and maybe you can work something out. i understand what you mean as this song send chills down my spine...and i don't have anyone to relate it to. have a great day.
This rendition of Dindi has become my favorite love song. Every time I play it my soul is instantly soothed. My blood pressure goes down and I fall in love with my wife all over again. When I told her about it and she heard it for the first time she was affected the same way I was and we fell in each other's arms. Yes, I plan on ordering this album asap.
This version is almost heavenly. I love this song and hearing JL sing it makes me wish that (1) I was in love again and (2) someone love me like that.
I have such a HEADACHE from life in general....when i hear JL & his classic voice..ahh my everyday issues slowly part from me & im free. Even if its only for 5 minutes or so im FREE. Jon you are missed brother BIG TIME... R.I.P my friend.
Thank you so much! You were so kind to post this, I wonder, would you consider posting "Soul Mate" as well? That was always a personal favorite of mine. Had the album years ago but I has long since been lost...thank you for reminding me what an amazing voice Mr. Lucien possessed.
This is my favorite rendition, too. It's as though I wrote the comment myself. :) Many thanks from me...It has gone through my head for over thirty years, and I've tried to remember who sang it...and here he is. :))
Thank you so much for putting this particular version of Dindi on youtube, it's been over 20 years since I've heard it. While I've enjoyed his other renditions of this song, I just feel this one is the ultimate. I love it, this is heavenly, thanks.
