FANTASTIC TUNE!!. SO damn catchy!!!!. A big hit in UK in 1982. Always gets me thinking of the Falklands war due to its being a hit in the same year and of course the South American connection, albeit Peruvian rather than Argentinian.
I can't help but pump my fist to the drum beat when this comes on. Imagine going to battle with this song in the background, and the battle starting when the tempo starts picking up.
Love it , listened to it first when my daughter was a baby, had to dance with her, now I just prance around the kitchen on my own, so what...I will do it again, and again.....
@sattfield Me too - had it in my mind's ear for that long. Always knew it was by a band called Incantation but didn't know the song title. Watching the top 30 countdown from January 1983 brought me here!
I bought this album in the falkland islands in 1984 and lost it in a house move in 2009.
Many thanks for posting this recording - it brings back wonderful memories of my motorcycle adventures in south america and the wonderful people I met.
Good song I heard this on the landscape channel and I'm still now wondering where I've heard this I'm 16 and I remember this from a long time ago it just randomly came on and I was humming it like i play it everyday can somebody please help ?
Not heard this since I bought it in 1982 I was watching another youtube video and the word incantations was mentioned completely unrelated to this video/audio track, but it kicked off a series of synaptic lightening storms in my brain to search for the memories attached to that keyword the first record was found as Mike Oldfield I knew it wasn't that then I had a flash of mountain ranges and knew it was the Andes then the name of the group poped to the for front of my mind and you-tube had it.
I actually bought this 7" vinyl for a girl at work back in 1987 for our work Secret Santa. I remember we could only spend around £5 max per person, i had pulled out a pretty cool chick to buy for so i was determined to impress. I went down to a record shop in Camden called Rocket where in the basement they had thousands of 7" Singles from as cheap as 10p upwards. I spent my whole £5 on the 7" singles. She loved her records, especially Incantation.
I saw these guys a few years ago, they were great and if you ever go to the Rivercentre, San Antonio, home of The Alamo, you will see a few guys playing this as well, San Antonio is such a great city >
@conradin1000 actually it's played both in Peru and Bolivia, and it means "Farewell to my dear village." Suppose to be played when men who are in their teens go off to the big city and hope they make it big.
@ybolton1 me too, i had no idea what it was called or who it was by and as there were no lyrics i couldn't google it. However, whilst listening to Mike Oldfield I heard a track called incantation and something just clicked in my memory.
I actually had the pleasure of meeting this amazing group in Lettrtkenny Co.donegal Ireland and they were the nicest and most decent people imaginable. They signed a cassette (well it was 1988) and let me have my photo taken with them.. A beautiful memory to go with their beautiful music, Happy times!
great !!! while "qonquering" the top 20 british chart that time - it was the first time for me to be intruduce ot "actually PERUIAN -ANDES " music style ... inspite most of that band were british musicians ..
since then i looked a lot for real ANDES music , and for more INCANTATION stuff
INCANTATION - from what i impressed - they're still quit anonymus - and stuff o f them is quit rare
@dokken87 please excuse me cos I am british but I loved this when it came out and still do. wondered if you could help me-we had a series called 'flight of the condor' (on tv just BEFORE this came out and I know it similar style but not been able to find it yet-the theme for the series that is! Just remember both songs made me wish I had wings at 10 and can only find this one now!) Don't suppose you have any ideas? (The condor in question was NOT in a zoo he/she was actually in the Andes BTW)
Every time i hear this i want to learn it on my guitar but I would have a hard time keeping up. Also does anyone have a tab? I can only figure out a few notes
yeah! i love this song! bring it on! i love it when it gets faster!
and..varieyist you made me laugh about the new wave thing and having a slap! haha! i was a new wave head at the time but i still loved this track and the album and i also liked Pigbag aswell "Papas got a brand new pigbag", which i thought was similar but without the panpipes, anyway, both are classics!
I spent a year living as an Amazonian style shaman high in the Andes. Living the area around machu pichu, we used to listen to this all the time. great days, thank s for posting this
