Very cool! I noticed you were speaking about the throttle in terms of manifold pressure, does the autopilot control throttle or is that the pilots responsibility?
@hidumboidiot Hi Sam - the throttle is controlled manually by the pilot. Jets have "auto throttle" but we're not there yet in small planes. So the autopilot flies the approach (lateral and vertical) and the pilot controls airspeed with throttle. -Greg
Very cool, thanks for responding. Im currently in school for my CPL, just working on my PPL now on the simple 172... But i cant keep myself from watching vids like these. Cant wait to get to the more complex stuff, but i guess ill just have to wait my turn :)
@Shelz355 thank you. I enjoy making them. The kneeboard is the "Wings Aviation 9G Plus Kneeboard. (I don't use the 3-ring binder part with the clear pouches)
Your instruction is amazing. One of the best Ive seen in a long time. I dont even fly anymore but If I did, I would insist on finding you for my instruction. Where do you fly out of ? I might just want to pay for a training flight with you just to get up in the air again
@Awoodonline No, I do not. Luckily, as an instructor I am able to maintain 10x the legal minimum for IFR currency. I insist while giving training that pilots show me competence and proficiency with and without the autopilot.
@182CessnaPvtPilot start out with steam gauges, then transition to glass after you get your rating. It will build better fundamentals of instrument flying, and less expensive

Love the vids,

"let the auto pilot fly the ILS for us", you dont count that towards your currency do you?

instead of entering on a tear-drop entrey why not just fly to jotly and then app controller would give you vectors to intercept LOC?
revowild 3 months ago in playlist More videos from southbaypilot
@revowild - I asked for the full approach with procedure turn. Vectors to final outside JOTLY would have been most efficient. -Greg

Let me know if there's a chance to fly this baby for free =)

Hi, I wholeheartedly urge everyone to fly glass. Do your IFR in a C172SP with Garmin G1000. Best of luck -Greg

What would you recommend a student doing ifr training in the steam gauges or newer glass cockpits?

@182CessnaPvtPilot I would say steam guages, with a 430 or something.
