  • I like this video for several reasons. It shows what can go wrong along the way as well with a broken belt, and the numerous spots left in the floor even after running over it once with the sander. Unlike watching a video where everything goes flawless which will just lead to unrealistic expectations unless you get real lucky as a DOI'er.

    Thanks for posting man!

  • nice job. even with a shitty machine and negative comments your floor came out good!

  • This video is too easy to hate on, renting 110 machines from Home Depot is fine if you keep it to yourself, post a video on youtube then expect some greef from us. I don't think this is a how-to video just a hey look at me! video. I don't know, I watched with the sound off.......I stopped at the obital..........my eyes are bleeding.

  • This is hilarious, guy doesnt know how to use either of the machines, not even orbital. crazy, I bet he had to hire someone to redo the floors after him. insane . We redo floors after people like him all the time

  • mate this is a joke people dont follow his instruction im a quailfed floor sander with 30 yrs experience and that is not a heavy duty sanding machine its a toy. do yourself a favour and contract a professional if you care for your home.

  • to avoid any waves get a better machine thats a toy compared to what the pros use as a matter of fact just hire some body

  • at least try and lift the handle for fucks sake

  • a good advert for work safe lmfao

  • This is comical. I need to see part 3

  • I am a hardwood floor contractor out of Boston, Although I can appreciate your hard work I pity a person that follows your lead on this video.

  • It's Rolling Rock time...

  • Using a drum sander against the grain--that's criminal, or should be. I'm living in a home where the floors have been ruined in this way and it makes me want to cry, spit or yell in frustration. Please, if you don't have the know-how and patience to do the job right, find someone who does or carpet your floors.

  • What's with all these "floor guys" having a whinge? You guys should go out and learn a real trade and stop taking shots at guys who choose not to use your overpriced services.

  • @cully86 LMFAO I own a hardwood flooring company. Looking at this video should have any wood worker "having a whinge"

  • i like this guy!!! lol

  • Really? It broke my heart to see that floor being mutilated like that, and to see that poor 8" Drum being so disrespected. In all honesty, You should have searched youtube for a video to show you how to sand a floor first. If possible, you needed a 12" 220v Drum or Belt sander, but then again looking back at how you ran that 8" 110v..... Nevermind! People like you keep us real floor guys busy fixing your mistakes. DIY usually costs you more in the end, when you have to call pros in to fix it.

  • OUCH! You know you can go forward too with the floor sander? Feather the lever at the walls! Move in a slow even fashion. Use a 220 belt floor sander not a 110 drum machine. Start sanding at about a 15 to 20 degree angle. PUT A SHIRT ON!!!

  • I wonder how many people screwed up their floors by following techniques in this video...

  • you about have to be retarded to use a 110 Volt rental frome home depot. unless u want you hardwood floor to look like ass....

  • As a professional floor guy, I am very disappointed for the inaccurate explanation of hardwood floors refinishing. First of all, the rental machine is not a professional machine, doesn't have enough weight or power to do a good job. He start of the wall and makes dips on floor which a home owner would not appreciate if we made that mistake. That is a misconception about hardwood floors, that anybody can do it, and that's not true. You can do a crappy job but is going to cost you later

  • @fateza2764 I guess everyone makes videos these days...

  • Thanks for the videos and tips. I just bought a house and I used alot of what you said and showed in my project. I did 3 bedrooms, 2 hallways and a large living room from sanding to stain and clear in about a week.......thanks again for your tips!

  • Nice video. Come over and help do mine.

  • What happens if you strip the old finish with paint stripper, and then sand?? I would think it would save a lot of time and expense. .. What do you think?

  • @tydauphinee1

    Your reply sounds retarded

  • this guy murdered his floors. drums marks everywhere and cross sanding, you only do that on parquet. My familys floor business been around for 88yrs and I am nwfa cert and this how you don't do your floor video

  • Hi to avoid the wave mark in the floor start off sanding on a 45 / angle. But when you stop at the walls go easy on the handle dont drop it down to hard other wise you will leave a mark where the drums has hit the floor. Good luck

  • @atamolotov good advise

  • I have used the random orbital sander, for fear that a belt sander would give the characteristic wave in the finish. How did you avoid that?

Also, what about space between boards? My floor has that problem.

  • @kc7fys well, i've used the random orbit in another room and it was ok but took a lot of time. With this floor, being it was bad from the last time I did it (because of deep dog pee from the last owners and my attempt to get it the first time) I knew I had to sand deep in some spots. I still feel I didn't do a 100% good job but all I can say is, be aware at all times that too much will cause gouges and bring it up when you think there might be a problem and go over it lightly again & again
