I think also that repetition plays a part here and the more one visits a place the more one invests ones feelings emotions and the inferences are marked indelibly on ones experience so there is a comfort each time one returns.
almost as though it´s incidental whats in the Turbine Hall for example because its rediscovering the Hall which is perhaps pleasurable.
How much more so for the people who first viewed it as a space for looking?
I agree with and recognise some of your feelings about the Tate Modern. Just as it is often said that art can be just that because of the fact that it is exhibited in a space . so too the space is embued by the presence of the objects within it or within the vicinity of it.
