I wonder if a balance knob could be cross-wired to reverse the dc voltage and direction of spin?
I got mine from a salvage store. but you can use an old cell phone charger, or go to goodwill and buy an old phone or something and cut the transformer off the end of the cord. Mine's variable which helps dial in the speed but I almost always use it set to 6 volts.

If you cant find that variable resistor, then maby some fixed value resistors can be used, maby one for high speed, and one for low speed.
