Is the book similiar in style to The Taking of Pelham 123? Pelham 123 ( book) sprung to mind when I was reading about Catch 22 ( book) on Wikipedia. Hey! Martin Balsam..... connection there.
Quite true. One can only imagine the cinematic mess of an exact adaptation. Also, when I was reading it, without having seen the movie beforehand, I pictured General Dreedle to look like Orson Welles
Yes, I think the Actors are fitting so extremly well...it's just amazing. But just a pitty that Major Major was not played by Henry Fonda. That would be the best coup :D
Agreed...and yet somehow, movie critics consistantly give this 2 stars.....having read the book, I really can't believe anyone ATTEMPTED to make a movie of it!.....and they did a damn fine job!!!
great scene, but ended one second too soon...Austin Pendleton whines to Orson Welles..who has just said to take Richard Benjamin "out and shoot him"..."I don't think you can do that dad"
2:50 best.

@michael2540 Orr should have his own TV show.

While the men seem to be stimulated by the presence of the general's "girl friend", Danby seems to be turned on by bombing cities. Frightening.

Man, first time I've read the book, 5 yrs ago, I was serving the Army and mallingering in the Regt. Hospital. That was an experience, lol.
darko8111 3 years ago
because they changed the shit out of it when they made it a movie. got rid of a few characters, omitted some plot lines, etc.
hiimbrady 3 years ago
Yeah, I'm not sure, but I think they omitted Major De Coverli also. He was a character
darko8111 3 years ago
If by some you mean most, I agree. they even combined Kid Sampson and Hungry Joe into one character
FortunaFortesJuvat 3 years ago
well the book is unfilmable, so they did a great job anyway. =)
