  • I'll get Ghost 'n Goblins for the Amstrad CPC 464 Home Computer soon! :D

isn't there a home computer version of this version of the game as well?

the commodore 64 version looks a bit like it if I'm not mistaken (level design and stuff)

I can run through Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts without much problems but the last level of the second run ... damn!

  • @GermanGameRoom I hear ya'. Damn. Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks to the SNES's excellent sound & addictive double-jump ability, I have no urge to get a SuperGrafx... but it was really cool to see it in action!

  • @Nintendough Lol. Well.....that is not the same game (so, unless you wanted the original G 'n G...I don't see why you would need to anyway, ha ha). But, yeah, Super G&G is a fantastic game, too. ;)

    Thanks for watching.

  • @spida1a

Good point! Maybe the original had more to offer than I gave it credit. Not that it would justify a SuperGrafx. But I might want to give "Capcom Classics Collection" a look...

  • @Nintendough I don't recommend buying a SuperGrafx unless you're a hardcore Turbo or PC-Engine collector anyway. So....

  • @spida1a

Yeah, with a library of under 10 games, that one's a true enthusiast's system.

Thanks for the review & replies!

  • @Nintendough LOL! Right? You got to be a real moron to buy one (.........oops...)

  • @spida1a

I'm sticking with "enthusiast"... ;) Seriously though, if you wanna talk moronic system purchases, ask me about my Mattel Aquarius. I *guess* it's cool to own one of the rarest systems that nobody wants...

  • Because I don't have a SGX (lucky you Chris), I had to pick up the genesis version. It's no where near as arcade perfect as SGX version, But it is a nice conversion. So ya, you are right on the money. This game is a classic!

  • @123doomdoom Oh yes, totally. I had the Genesis version when I was younger. Loved it and they did a great job! Thanks for watching!

  • the x68000 was the first, most accurate version. It is EXACTLY the same and th reason for this was all cps1 games were developed on that system. All other versions are reprogrammed ports and r slightly different

  • @deenowski Interesting. Thanks for watching.

  • This is a awesome port, in some respects it's better than the arcade version. However, being a HUGE Ghosts n' Goblins fan I can not suggest buying a Super Grafx to play this, as in my opinion all the other games are mediocre. You would be better off buying a Supergun (arcade system to pla arcade boards on your t.v.) or an actual arcade cabinet.

  • @greedostick Considering there are only a handful of games, I wouldn't suggest anyone buy a SuperGrafx (though 1941 kicks a($ as well). Ha ha. You should only be a collector nut-job like myself. :)

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @greedostick buy the Capcom Generations disc for ps2. it has all the GNG games.

  • ya... unless you grab that blue flame thing... yup, I got stuck with that crappy weapon on the last level... SUCK!!

  • so can you play the japanese games on a us turbo grafx??

  • @gregsageisdead You can play PC-Engine games using a PC-Engine converter. SuperGrafx games you cannot.

  • @gregsageisdead

Here's how it works, any cd game can be played on any region console, assuming you have a duo, or a turbo grafx or pc engine with the proper card, 2.0, 3.0, arcade, game express, exc... Hu cards can only be pleyed on the region they were intended for, and Super Grafx games can only be played on a super grafx. So to play cd's on a super grafx, which doesn't have a cd attachment, you must buy a RAU-30 adaptor to be able to hook the Super CD Rom2 to the console, and it's expensive

  • This...this here is an arcade experience!

  • @123doomdoom Totally!

  • Does the TurboGrafx display more colors than the Genesis as it looks like it does?

  • @kenbefound Yes, it does. Ha ha! Obviously this is the SuperGrafx, but the PC-Engine was VERY similar. That was one of the things we were able to brag about back then (even though it wasn't a true 16-bit system...ha ha). :)

  • It's my first Arcade experience in 1988 and i play it since 2000 every Sunday morning on my Taito Egret 3. Is it worth to spend 100 euro for a mint complete PCE Super Grafx without the box + a mint copy of Dai Makaimura with the sleeve. I known that the Sharp x68000 version very difficult to play is much harder than the Arcade version. Maybe i must get the Super Grafx and the Japanese Mega Drive version. Thanks for the awesome cool review. ^_^

  • @MyNameIsArmakuni Thanks for sharing your story and watching!! Have a great New Year.

  • @spida1a I bought the Super Grafx with Da Makaimura for 70 euro and it' plays super and is not so difficult than the Sharp x68000 version. The music is great and it's a great wonder too play it on a 8MB HuCard with a beast of a console. I known now that the PC Engine Super Grafx the greatest console is beside the Neo Geo AES and the Saturn. Now i must seek for the Super CD 2 system but how must you connect it to the Super Grafx. You too a great New Year and i liked your PC Engine videos.

  • Man I could never get through the first stage of this game damn weather :(

  • @paleknight1 I know. It took me A LONG time to get good at this time (thanks to the Sega Genesis port back in the day). Ha ha. :)

    Thanks for watching.

  • is this the identical version as on the SEGA Genesis?

  • @FletcherHabit Honestly, I have played both quite extensively. I find this one to be the best looking of the two. But, it essentially is the SAME game. You know?

    Thanks for watching!!

  • yeah both the ghouls and ghosts series and street fighter 2010 are frustratingly addictive.

  • @hobocamptheater Totally.

  • hey spida its your number one fan. My supergrafx is in the mail. Im all excited to get it and of course I had to check out this review. thnx once again

  • @jomommasmelz I have a fan? Ha ha. :) :)

    Awesome. Have fun with it!

  • Is the SuperGrafx backwards compatible?

  • @Bakemon13 Yes, you can play PC-Engine chip cards (and supposedly it can connect to the CD system, I've never seen it though, ha ha). :)

  • I only got my hands on three of those games.. So ended up getting a RAU 30 and cdrom adaptor ..

  • Great review..thanks!!!!

  • Hey spida1a! Just wanted to say I love your vids and to keep up the good work.

I think the Super Grafx is a sexy ass console. I used to drool over the ads in the back of my EGM. This thing plays regular HuCards too right? Shame they only made 5 games for it.

  • @SpiffyBiscuits5 Hey! Thanks a lot! I'm so glad you enjoy them, means a lot!

  • damn good review

  • @exninja Awesome! Thanks for the compliment!!

  • I love your review and I want this game now. I compare the PC engine Ghouls 'n Ghosts to Castlevania: Rondo of Blood PC engine(not the SNES remake which was an inferior version. Still good though) I must pick up this game. Thank you for this great review.

  • Castlevania is my favorite video-game series. Tracking down Castlevania for the PC-Engine back in 1993 was very difficult. You know? But........I tried really hard and snagged it. A completely awesome game.....for damn sure! :)

    Thanks for watching!!

  • @spida1a

Yes, I'd love it if you can review Rond of Blood. You'll see for yourself why it was the Holy Grail of Castlevania.

  • do you own Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the SNES?

  • OH yes. Bought it when it first came out. :)

  • if you own it then maybe you should do some kind of special review of it or a video where you compare Ghouls 'n Ghosts to Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts

  • Arthur in his boxers, gigity gigity goo

  • what a rare system...you don't see too many of these...do you also collect other systems/games or do you just stick to NEC?

  • Most of this stuff I got as a kid (not SuperGrafx obviously) so......in many ways, no....I don't really collect anything else. But, I do have a lot of other systems from growing-up. :)

  • This version shits all over the genesis.

  • Ha ha. Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • only five games on only one is good is ghouls n ghost

  • Yeah. 1941: CA is pretty good, too. But.....it's amazing how the system had "nothing" going for it at all otherwise. You know? Ha ha! :)

    thanks for watching!

  • 5 stars for speed daggar

  • Ha ha. Darn right!!! :)

  • I remember when I read about the SuperGrafx I wanted it so bad. Didn't think it would fail that bad.

  • I know, same here. I came in a little late (by the time I was into the "TurboGrafx" it had already failed). But, I always wanted one. You know? :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • I saw some things that were left out of the Gen version. This one looks like the arcade the most.

  • Yes, definitely. This one is definitely an awesome version....... :)

    Happy New Year!

  • "If you close, you can hear the fruit of the loom guys giggling" LOL

  • LOL!

    Yeah, I know....lame. ha ha! :)

  • Great. Now I want to play it again! Not that I'll get very far...

Yes. CAPCOM, you guys really are cruel with some difficulty settings yet, you always tease us with just enough eye candy to keep us coming back for more. Maybe we're just a bunch of masochists...

  • I smiled when you mentioned how bad the torch weapon is. I've played a lot of the original game, Ghosts and Goblins, and I agree: the torch weapon is a death wish.

Also, if you have a PSP, there is a new game in the series for it, Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins. It's just as good as the classic games, but with a slightly modernized flavor.

It's still hard as hell of course, but they included some easy settings for those who don't wish to have their soul broken.

  • Ha. Yeah, that torch weapon.......UGH! :)

Thanks, I'll check that PSP one out . Thanks for watching!

  • Can't believe I missed this. How different is this version from the SNES and GEnesis? I thought all those rotating levels were only in the SNES port.

man, nothing like watching somebody play this game to make you watn to beat it yourself.. Great job, Chris!

  • Hey, thanks!

The Super NES version is a "different game" (Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts). The Genesis version is the same port as this one, just Genesis-ized. :)

  • never had this on the vic 20 :)

  • Yay! Chris went and actually reviewed a Super Grafix game! There is a tear running down my cheek. Thanks man!

  • Wow, I haven't seen someone that excited since my "ex" left me. :)

  • Lol...Yeah but I bet she didn't love the Super Grafix as much as we do ;)

  • Hmm. Nope. Glad she's gone. LOL! :)

  • I believe the Super Grafx version was a 8MB card while the Genesis was 5MB. Still the arcade was 32MB being pretty hefty for the late 80's.

  • I remember the arcade version quite a bit. Ugh.....that killed me too. :)

  • I played both the Genesis version and the port in the Capcom classics collection on PS2. But I never seen this version.

  • This is a great version, IMHO. I'm glad I could do the video for those who have never seen it. You know? :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • You are so lucky to own a SuperGrafx! I have the Sega Genesis version of Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and the sound/music is well done for the Genny. But I've always prefered the TG-16 sound chip over Sega's. Something a bit sharper about the tunes. I would think the SuperGrafx version has the better music and sound.

  • IMHO, the Genesis version has better music and sound than the SuperGrafx one. Ah well.......can't win 'em all. LOL! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • I want to pickup a Supergrafx next year some time along with this game i must be wanting some punishment because i know this game is hard lol.

    Great video as always Chris.

  • You have to be a nut-job to pickup the SuperGrafx for "five" games. But......what can I say? I'm a nut-job! LOL :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • I guess i will join you in the nut house Chris because am crazy too lol.

  • lol! See you here! :)

  • Save a chair and a strait jacket for me Chris lol.

  • Chris if you think Ghouls is tough, play Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins for PSP if you haven't already. That game makes this look like easiest game out there.

  • Ugh, okay! I will check that one out.

I'm up for it........bring it on PSP! Hee hee.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I beat this in the Arcade, well worth it.

  • Definitely!

  • awesome review, love it! I actually spent two whole days playing the mega drive version with my pal a few months ago, pausing the console for hours when we had to eat, go to the clubs and suffer the hangover... we still weren't able to complete the second go, got way too frustrated, turned the damned thing off and went straight back to the clubs :)

  • Ha ha! It definitely can drive you to drink.

I was pretty excited to beat it after days of getting "upset".....veeeeeery upset. Lol! :)

    Thanks for watching!!

  • hah! I lost my wife, my kids, my job and my self esteem because of daimakaimura...

just kidding, I don't have a wife or kids, but I'm sure if I'd had them, I would've lost them because of daimakaimura! :D

  • Ha ha! I hear ya'! l:)

  • Great video. I actually have the mega drive version of this. it is a great game.

Its funny. They call it "ghouls n Ghosts" but i think the real translation is "Great Underworld Village" or something like that.

Looking forward to your next review. You should do the PC engine version of Splatterhouse.

  • Yes, I used to play the Genesis version quite a bit WAY back in the day. You know?

Wow, that's an interesting difference in names. LOL! Thanks for watching!

And yes, Splatterhouse is coming very soon! :)

  • Sweet review of this version. I remember how I spended a lot of money in the lunapark on this game (and ghost n goblins) only to see GAME OVER within the minute. Damn hard

  • Ugh, me too. The arcade version kicked my a(*. :)

    thanks for watching!

  • I still have nightmares about how hard this game is. thanks for the review on a version I never knew existed.

  • I had nightmares as well.......until I kicked the crap out of it. Ha! Take that CAPCOM!!!!!

    :)

    Thanks for watching my friend!

  • I know this game would make me want to break the SuperGrafx so if I ever buy it I'll settle for the Genesis version.

Not my kind of game though, I get frustrated too easily :)

  • Ha ha! In that case, I would avoid it. LOL! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • I really need to snag myself a Supergrafx.Great review as always spida1a.

    Such a beautiful game.

  • It's a unique little system. It's nice to be able to share it with everyone here who maybe won't get to see it. You know????

    Thanks for watching my friend!!

  • Great Review! I have always lusted after a SuperGrafx just for this game. maybe one day I will break down and get one but with only 5 games its hard to fork out the cash for the system when I already have a PC-Engine DUO-R.

  • Yes, it is VERY tough to convince yourself to buy it JUST for that game. But, it's really only one of the reasons (though 1941 is pretty good too!). :)

  • Cool to see this version of the classic game.

  • Definitely. It's a unique one.... :)

  • wernt you able to double jump in this game?

  • No, unfortunately. I remember in Super G n G on SNES......I used to LOVE that feature. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • i got the genesis version but ya this game pisses the shit outa me

  • Ha ha. I hear ya'. ;)

  • That's.....just.......weird. :)

  • Great review for a great game!

I've never beaten this game. Probably because I haven't really played it that much :p I have beaten Ghosts n' Goblins and Super Ghouls n' Ghosts though, so I think that's a pretty impressive feat lol

    Stay cool!

  • amazing

  • My favourite on the Super Grafx! It's a shame it wasn't released over here.

  • Definitely! :)

  • Sadly with games like Battle Ace and Grand Zort I can see why some would be turned off by the Super Grafx.

  • Yeah, those aren't the greatest. LOL! :(

  • geez you bought an imported system which only has two good games and three mediocre ones? That's dedication. Even my 32X has more than two games worth owning. Anyway, I'm glad you did so you could make this review, It looks like a great port. Thanks againI

  • Ha ha!!

I couldn't help it. Once I got all the American games, I knew that I wanted to pickup the SuperGrafx, just for historical purposes. You know? :)

  • So frustrating !!! Ive never played a console version of this but I used to play the arcade machine alot as a kid, so hard yet so much fun.

Good job as always on the video.

  • It just.......drives me insane. I can't.....stop.....playing. Hee hee! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • For the sound I guess you haven't played Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts casue that has the best sound out of the home ports.

  • Yeah, but that's a different game than the Super Grafx and Genesis versions. They're VERY similar, but the Super Grafx and Genesis games are one in the same, not the Super NES version :)

  • I have played and defeated Super G 'n G many times, thank you very much. Love that game also....... :)

And thanks BygJuce85, you answered the reply I was about to send. Thanks for watching guys!

  • For great Justice!

  • Great work! I really like this review, it's enjoyable and very profesional

  • Hey, thanks so much! I appreciate it.

  • Great review! Agree that this was the best home version for the arcade at that time!

  • Definitely! Too bad nobody really saw it. LOL! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • awesome review! Ghouls n Ghosts is definatly one of my favs. My dad even loves this game and can pretty much school both my brother and I.

  • Hey, thanks a lot. I just love the game.....

  • Very good review, would love to see some more info on the SuperGrafix ya know tech specs, etc..

  • Thanks! I'm hoping to go into more detail with the SuperGrafx at some point. Slowly but surely......hee hee. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • awesome review dude. I wish I could afford a supergrafx and this game

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Great review!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Ha! I got the first view. At least it looked like it on my computer anyway. And look, you even convinced me to make an account and subscribe to you. <3 Congrats =D Enjoyed it just as much as all the rest, keep them coming!

P.S. My vote is still for more pinball videos ;)

  • Excellent!
