I don't buy expensive jewelry because it's never worth what you pay for it. I give more of my paycheck to the utility companies and my rent is $900.00 a month with nothing included. I'm a 23 year old male, and I hate to say it but Cenk called me out. I spent about 2 1/2 years in the ARMY and I bought so many electronics that I hardly use.
I'm pretty impulsive looking back on things. Whenever my wife's birthday comes up she asks for jewelry, I'll even let her pick it out ( Because I have bad taste in it ) and then she hardly even wears it.
Funny too because I hardly even think about how many games I have but don't play, I should really invest me money in something else.

When women stop buying clothes and jewelry, retailers lay people off, these people then can't afford to shop, or go out to eat, or worst case scenario make their mortgages. This just feeds into the cycle. So if we agree spending should slow down, there needs to be job creation to offset the job losses.

Here's what needs to be done. People need to generate their own electric with methane, and save the heat energy for heating in an insulated water tank. Then they will begin to generate their own methane from waste and organic material. People could use the existing gas infrastructure and only use coal generated electricty if necessary. No heat loss, maybe 20 of the total carbon footprint, generates clean water, new methods to compress and store natural gas for cold times.

My kids and I often comment on why there are two major home supply stores within walking distance, and within 1 mile of each other. We have 7 locations for buying prescription drugs. I don't buy expensive jewelry because it's never worth what you pay for it. I give more of my paycheck to the utility companies and my rent is $900.00 a month with nothing included. I don't have much left over to maybe even get a couple of decent clothes to wear to work. Maybe if the merchants would lower their prices for awhile, they might get twice or even three times the customers and make more money. It would help us both out.

I'm a 23 year old male, and I hate to say it but Cenk called me out. I spent about 2 1/2 years in the ARMY and I bought so many electronics that I hardly use.
I'm pretty impulsive looking back on things. Whenever my wife's birthday comes up she asks for jewelry, I'll even let her pick it out ( Because I have bad taste in it ) and then she hardly even wears it.
Funny too because I hardly even think about how many games I have but don't play, I should really invest me money in something else.

Sure, not spending at all is bad for the economy, but overspending till you're up to your eyeballs in debt, or worse yet, go completely broke/bankrupt doesn't do anyone any good, either. There has to be a balance. Certain businesses are going to suffer horribly, if not go under during our current state, but it is the economy purging itself of the binging it's been doing the last 20 or so years. I go into credit card debt by the end of the year just spending on food, shelter and a little bit of higher education to try and get ahead. I couldn't possibly afford to buy lots of electronics shit or w/e, but the stimulus package would be a godsend for me and help me get through this.
Ideally I'd be more tight-fisted with my money in these tough times, but life's also there for the living -- I grew up in the 90s, nobody ever taught me about hard times. American dreamers aren't perfect.

You're 100% right on the importance of what Americans spend their money on. The vast majority of it is unneccessary. However, that's the house of cards on which we chose to build our economy. When women stop buying clothes and jewelry, retailers lay people off, these people then can't afford to shop, or go out to eat, or worst case scenario make their mortgages. This just feeds into the cycle. So if we agree spending should slow down, there needs to be job creation to offset the job losses.

YEY WE WOMAN FINALLY DON"T BUY AS MUCH XD! I mean most commercial ARE spotted at womanO.o. Being a woman anything that is "shiny, pretty, or just OMG I WANT IT" we just buy it. I'm just glad we as a nation are being smarter about our shopping habits:D. At least now we can pay off Debts and redirect the gov into more important things like Edu, Health Care, and things like that. Maybe we can NOW start producing more american made products instead of making money over sea and start in the U.S=O

Also, wasnt our national debt going down? Till the GOP came in=o? I mean from what it sounds like it's like the government WANTS us in debtO-o. I mean cause it sounds like (things i've seen over the last eight years) we as a nation are only payin the MINIMUM to our national debt but we keep accumulating more=o debt. So in a way it seems like we never pay it off=O. Another reason y spending without limits (regulation and Deregulation) is dangerous=O.

this turkey doens't know what he's talking about. The problem isn't the spending. It's the reason why we're spending on credit. The economy couldn't support the real estate market, we have a trade deficit before a federal deficit of ginormous proportions with one particular country in the eastern hemisphere to the tune of $800 billion. If the net worth of the US is $60 tril, $800 bil plus interests payable is 2%. 99% of Americans own less than 1% of it's collective wealth. Think people!

That 1% that 99% of Americans' own collectively goes to other countries so a few CEO's can claim higher profits with the same amount of productivity. The tech industry rakes in maybe $200 billion each year, but that's what America gives to another country in a deficit.
The billionaires, or the 1% that own more than 99% of the country's wealth are not spending on U.S. goods or creating demand for high paying jobs here.
The spending habits of average Joe Schmoe can't do much about this.

Here's what needs to be done. People need to generate their own electric with methane, and save the heat energy for heating in an insulated water tank. Then they will begin to generate their own methane from waste and organic material. People could use the existing gas infrastructure and only use coal generated electricty if necessary. No heat loss, maybe 20 of the total carbon footprint, generates clean water, new methods to compress and store natural gas for cold times.

I agree, because if we harnessed methane then in California we could get rid of the methane tax on farms and use it to create energy instead. Oh, wait, we already use the animal feces for fertilizer, and I wish you luck gathering the passing of gas, which is what METHANE is.

Thats all fine, except it's also killing the smaller stores. It's not going to kill Circuit City. However KB Toys is gone from what I understand. The name will cease from memory. I grew up on KB Toys. Walmart and Toys R Us killed it. The really big stores can close stores, but it won't kill them. THe smaller stores, they are dead or dying. :(

The ultimate economic stimulation: abolish the IRS, and abolish the Federal Reserve. The treasury shouldn't borrow fiat notes on interest for the private cartel to run a printing press. The IRS ONLY funds the Interest on the Debt, the second highest category below HHS on the federal budget.

Wastefull spending might be good in the short run, but it will increase the national debt and lead to higher Co2 emmisions which will hurt the America in the long run.

Have to disagree on this one. My girlfriend and I are spending less than we ever have been, we almost never even go out anymore, yet we're both struggling financially still. Also, didn't they mention before that Cenk got married or engaged fairly recently? I suppose he stuck to his principles of jewelry being useless wastes of money and didn't buy a ring for his fiance/wife??

Right on. The reason they are pushing unnecessary spending is because that's where the top 1% makes its money.
It's not that we need tax cuts, we need tax equality. Money is power, and taxing the rich lower than the working class makes positive change almost impossible.

What Cenk forgot to mention is that jewelry and electronic devices have a really terrible carbon and ethical footprint. Often, Tropical forest is destroyed to yield the raw materials, and the processing is likewise energy consuming. Moreover, coltan ore, which is needed for the accumulators, as well as gold and gems are the export goods of the Congo region, fuelling the war there.

My kids and I often comment on why there are two major home supply stores within walking distance, and within 1 mile of each other. We have 7 locations for buying prescription drugs. It goes on and on. Businesses have over-saturated the market and now find purchases are down so they have to cut back. Bad? One could call it a correction.

The Republicans like to point to the Kennedy tax cuts as proof that revenues increase as a result of such policies.
I would love for some genius to figure out what our economy would look like if the income distribution and tax rates were the same as when Kennedy took those actions.

I have a few rings and necklesses, which I got for birthdays and stuff, even thou I NEVER wear them and I keep getting some. And everybody knows I do not like that.
