  • Cenk, you communist!!!! (joke LOL)

  • " every BJ begins with Kays"

  • @Mrflappere 9 months, but im still going to respond, and im 1500000% sure your being sarcastic, but dude, americans are up-fuckin-sessed with horses, the kentucky derby? the biggest whorse race in the world.

  • the big joke is where does all the spending come from? It's not free. It either comes from your pocket or is borrowed or more likely is printed. The government has no savings to spend. Real wealth comes from hard-earned savings. Smaller government, less spending, means more capital to be invested productively.

  • Nice golden watch you got there.

  • Bankbailout saved us from a depression. These loans are being paid back. GM is also repaying the gov., re-opening plants and re-hiring. HEALTHCARE benefits Americans and reduces deficit. The RECOVERY Act--REDUCES TAXES for middle class whose income declined under Bush. Repairs INFRUSTRUCTURE. Invests in EDUCATION needed to compete in a global society. Invests in CLEAN ENERGY tech. and jobs. Invests in scientific and medical RESEARCH--these are all vital persuits to restore a THRIVING AMERICA.

  • I agree. Americans spend too much money.

Ads after ads telling us we suck and we need to purchase their shit so we could feel better. Something is not right here.

  • hes drunk in this one.

  • Okay, Cenk. Love you, man, but you are dead wrong.

If everyone spends less, businesses collapse, jobs are terminated, and as a subsequence, loans cannot be repaid. Banks fall, unemployment is up, we are in a recession. Think, Cenk, think.

  • Nope, Things nobody needs will die out, and we may have a chance of real quality at the things we really need, and for getting rid of the wasteful consumer society.

But who am i kidding, it's not going to happen

  • Spending itself isn't wrong it's the area of spending, jobs can be re-distributed into areas that matter like "needs" not "wants" A joke around the world is that doesn't matter how pointless your product is America will buy it .

  • @m3plus2 We spend to much money that we don't have.

  • Agreed 100% Cenk!

  • so fun i just find it so funy

  • You Rock! The Awesome Mayor of Awesometown, that's who you are. We would like to make you a website, to show our love.

  • I don't buy expensive jewelry because it's never worth what you pay for it. I give more of my paycheck to the utility companies and my rent is $900.00 a month with nothing included. I don't have much left over to maybe even get a couple of decent clothes to wear to work. Maybe if the merchants would lower their prices for awhile, they might get twice or even three times the customers and make more money. It would help us both out.

  • Someone should explain economics to this idiot

  • i agree 100% i counted there are way to many best buys and mcdonaldes in my town and we have like 3 or 4 malls within 25 miles of each other

  • Hey publicatdamagnificen we also spend tons of money on cigarettes.

  • If you knew anything about economics, the way to get out of a recession is to SPEND, consumer spending pusses the Aggregate Demand curve up moving us towards NAIRU (full employment line) and out of an recession.

  • But it doesn't do you any good if we spend to the point in which we don't have money anymore. It has become the point of diminshing returns.

  • i dont know about you but i only make about 25000.00 a year and my house was only 95000.00 thats about 1000.00 a month i have 2 kids and i live in st.louis missouri after i pay for food gas water trash taxs my car and yes you have to have a car in st.louis because its to spred out iam poor i havent bought any thing for my self in about a year my one pair of shoes are about 1 year old after i pay for my bills i have about 40.00 a week to buy something for the kids

  • We do spend too much money on:

    Porn

    Pizza

    Beer

    Girlfriends

    Wives.

  • its about time we stopped spending like there is no tomorrow. we have been living like kings and queens. we have been incredibly ignorant.

  • YOUR GOD IS UGLY !!!

    HAH AH AH AH !!!!

the american people spend the money??

    ah ahah ah ah ...

think they spend the life for talk about the money !!!

    b b b b b b b

the system is ful !! bb bb bb bb b b !!!!

  • Spending money on clothes is like buying expensive food.... you know where this is going

  • every kiss begins with gays

  • top man

  • It isnt how the economy works you dumbass! guess how much americans spend? hint: its more than 100% they are spending so much that their money isnt worth as much. and they spend so much that they need a revolutionary leader just for confidence.. when america is confident again we will start seeing real presidents. i could type all day but i wont waste ur time, send me a msg and we will tlk about it if u want

  • no no no. The world runs on american spending!!!! We need americans to freakin waste their money. Its how the world economy works.

  • Agree with Cenk... in theory

Unfortunately, the world runs on FIAT...

    F***ing Feds.

  • cenk.. i will never have enough clothes...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god, that means you're supporting the terrorists! Off to Guantanamo you go!

  • I agree with Cenk, but less money spent = less jobs.

The real issue is what we are going to do with all of the people not working. Since we don't need all those stores and we don't need all those jobs, then what about all those people?

We need to have the system set up better, somehow, to allow for people not working when jobs are not needed.

  • I agree

  • they should just legelize it , that would bring in a new source of revenue for the government and then cut payroll taxes

  • Cenk I couldn't agree more. We spend and spend and spend and it's crazy. It's like capitalism has us in a trap because they never run out of things to tell you that you need and it just eats more and more money.

Women YOU HAVE ENOUGH FRIGGIN JEWELERY AND CLOTHES!

  • LOL theres a zales ad in the top right right now.

  • I see where he's coming from, but the more stores that close the more jobs are lost.

  • I'm a 23 year old male, and I hate to say it but Cenk called me out. I spent about 2 1/2 years in the ARMY and I bought so many electronics that I hardly use.

I'm pretty impulsive looking back on things. Whenever my wife's birthday comes up she asks for jewelry, I'll even let her pick it out ( Because I have bad taste in it ) and then she hardly even wears it.

Funny too because I hardly even think about how many games I have but don't play, I should really invest me money in something else.

  • njattack IS SO STUPID I HOPE HE DIES.

YOUR JUST MAD CUZ CENK IS HOTTER AND SMATER THAN YOU.

    GO FUCK OFF

  • Best video of the week brother..

Are so called stimulus check should come in the form of a debit card that only allows the purchase of limited goods....fuck make-up, gold, ect...big waste of money for both sides.....only winner in that deal is the big money boy's over the world exchange.

  • This guy should run 4 president!

  • The actr always find something to say jsut to show he thinks different .

I call this Intellectual Masturbation for EVERY subject

    Idendity trouble at its best

  • TO EVERYONE COMMENTING:

no one will read your comments if you make them long.

  • Pretty much..lmfao0o

  • wow...you must be one of those dumb MTV bitches that hasn't even read a book yet....hows the mall treating ya slime ball?

  • y is this now?

  • You're right on the button! We don't need more things!

  • MY gf's new years resolution was not to spend anymore money on clothes and jewelry. Im ecstatic.

  • SPEND IT ON EDUCATION!

  • what? do you want the west to become muslims to cut down on our enjoyable bad habits? islam is boring

  • "The American Economy is run by consumers"

That is exactly what is causing this problem. A consumer/service industry is only viable when there is an upwardly mobile middle class with expendable income. We have destroyed the middle class, so our economic system is falling apart. It is as simple as that. There are only two options, revitalize the middle class or go to a two class system where all the wealth is controlled by the ruling class and the working class lives like slaves.

  • Here's a concept...pay down you debts, save money, and live prudently...

That's bad for the big economy... good for your economy... just my quick opinion

  • The problem is Americans aren't spending money, they're buying with credit, which isn't owned by American banks.

  • Oh, here we go. Tips on economy from someone who uses the term "ballin". The reason we're IN this mess is because of OVERspending. Americans LOOOVE to spend beyond their means, no matter how much they make, because they've been brainwashed into being obsessed with material goods by capitalist BS & propaganda. Subsequently, it has led to a grossly oversaturated market. Given such a catastrophic combination, an economic collapse is eminent.

  • Sure, not spending at all is bad for the economy, but overspending till you're up to your eyeballs in debt, or worse yet, go completely broke/bankrupt doesn't do anyone any good, either. There has to be a balance. Certain businesses are going to suffer horribly, if not go under during our current state, but it is the economy purging itself of the binging it's been doing the last 20 or so years. THAT'S the cycle. Unfortunately, what we're going through right now is self-induced.

  • @Intramorph You start off your comment by taking a jab at Cenk and then make the exact same point he made. You're silly

  • @megeles Actually, it's your arbitrary assumption that's silly. When did Cenk use the term "ballin'"? He didn't. So then why would you think I was referring to him? My comment was a reply to an earlier post which said "Cenk is such a fucking dumbass. The American Economy is run by consumers, if we don't spend, businesses don't profit, in turn they have to lay off workers." The jab I took was in reference to the user name of the person who posted that comment (24ballin23).

  • @Intramorph You're the silly one. "23ballin24" is pretty clearly Michael Jordan (23) BALLIN (basketball) Kobe Bryant (24). Nothing at all to do with money or the economy. Keep making assumptions though. +1.

  • @Intramorph Austrian economics 101, a key to a good economy is saving and producing. Capitalism isn't spending like truck ask Peter schiff that question. Keynesians aren't free market capitalist and they've been in control for decades. Corporatism is the problem, which is a form of socialism.(force)

  • summary: American's pend too much money? ... "kiss my ass", OF COURRRSE

  • When it was time to buy wedding rings and my guy asked me what I wanted, I said I want a dog, he looked at me like I was nuts and brought me a dog. For 15 years we had an animal that brought joy and good memories that will last our whole lives instead of a piece of jewelry I would have lost or taken for granted. Jewelry, total waste of money.

  • the only way less spending is good is there's a wealth generating side that you can then balance. Here's the thing, there's no wealth generating side to balance the American economy, your industries are completely based on consumption, that's why the "smart guys" came to the conclusion you need more spending, its because they know spending's the only thing keeping your economy going, there's not much other industries that can replace it without collapsing the bubble.

  • let me guess njattack, your native american?!

  • The Young Turks should worry more about what Tureky is spending rather than what Americans spend. Foreigners have always been a noisy group.

What the U.S. needs is to boot every foreigner who entered the U.S. since 1965 back to their own country where--they--belong. And they will be.

  • Go eat a dick. Cenk is an american.

  • Any organization called the Young Turks is certainly NOT American.

Like I said, these Turkish know-it-alls should go smoke their water pipe and mind their own business.

Foreigners in America? They are foreigners, not Americans. Always will be foreigners.

    FOREIGNERS RAUS!

  • ...can you define for me what an "American" is? Foreigners that have been here for several generations? Otherwise, I don't know what else you're referring to, because there is no such thing as an indigenous American (aside from the tiny remnants of those we stole these lands from).

Likewise, there is no such thing as a "Turk". Turks are the bastardized combination of their Mongolian ancestors, and all the Anatolian cultures they invaded, raped, killed and stole lands and culture from.

  • Any person legally in the U.S. before 1965 and a U.S. citizen. Otherwise, they are foreign terrorists. This is because the immigration into the U.S. was NOT "by the will of the people" rather by corrupt politcians, i.e. Ted Kennedy, who's intent was to destroy the homogenity of the U.S.

Let it be reminded that politicians are only a servant of the American people. When they cease to be a servant & become a tyrant, as is today, their decrees are meaningless.

  • before 1965, there were racial quotas on immigration. o.k, so are a racist. you only white people in this country. sad for you that it not anymore. so suck my meat..

  • i meant want*****, my fault

  • What do you care what I am?

Either you believe in a democracy or not. The U.S. has a democracy. It is the "will of people" for better or for worse. If the "will of the people" want NO immigration, then NO immigration it will be. If the "will of people" only what white people, then white people it will be.

Democracy = will of the people.

  • That's just the attitude that makes everyone else hate America.

    Congrats.

  • I don't think so. Read Teddy Roosevelts speech on Hyphenated Americans.

Foreigners hate the U.S. because they are COWARDS. They are too chicken to fix their own country. When the democratic process, which is the will of the people, decides they don't want foreigners, foreigners naturally whine.

The days of immigration into the U.S. has been over since WW 2. There are over 10 MIL unemployed Americans. In 1932 FDR said NO FOREIGNERS. In 1954 Eisenhower, NO FOREIGNERS. Jobs are for Americans.

  • Turn your philosophy inwards man

you hate foreigners because are country is royally boned because of a bad economy and a devotion to capitalism that makes religious fanatics look like free people, while countrys with non retarded policies and without a xenophobic, minority government are more or less thriving.

In summation, your kind of a dick

  • Your reply only reinforces my point: Foreigners are the enemy of the American people.

The American people are going to give you foreigners a kick in rear back to you own country where--you--belong. Americans don't want manure in their country.

  • Im 100% American you racist pig.

and how does it reinforce your point?

it makes you mad that other countries are better run or something?

  • You obviously have a problem with the American people despite your meaningless claim.

Why don't you do what the Roman Senators told Caesar to do 2000 yrs ago? They said Caesar "Put up or shut up!" You can take Gaul then, take it or shut up. Brave Caesar put up and conquered Gaul.

You domestic terrorists like foreigners so much then put up or shut up. Give them your job! You won't because your weak & COWARDLY. You want other Americans to be forced.

Put up of shut up Mr. Terrorist!

  • i am not using terror, therefore im not a terrorist

the american hired PMCs massacring innocents in iraq are terrorists

the israelis bombing innocent palestinians are terrorists

  • You obviously don't understand terrorism.

If you support illegal aliens & H-1B foreigners in the U.S. who's sole purpose is to take jobs from Americans, then, YOU are a terrorist because YOU support terrorism.

These foreigners are used because corrupt businesses DISCRIMINATE against American professional & non-professional labor.

    DISCRIMINATION is terrorism.

(Labor shortage hype is anti-American propaganda. There has never been a labor shortage in the U.S.!)

  • Riiiight. Or MAYBE s/he CAN'T give up his job to foreigners because s/he doesn't work in some bottom end, low brow industrial or blue collar job, which are the only ones foreigners are "threatening". Are you upset that you can't mow my lawn for minimum wage? Are you going to jump all over the chance to tighten bolts down at some factory the moment foreigners leave? Exactly what job IS it that you think you're going to get back if your wishes of foreigners leaving this country comes true?

  • njattack - If Americans don't want manure in their country, than how do you explain the average American? Whether it be the dumbass, backwoods hicks that make up a good portion of our population, or the clueless suburbanite dipshits in the more "civilized" parts, the average "American" is a lazy, apathetic moron that doesn't know his/her ass from a hole in the ground. I mean think about it. Calling someone intelligent in this country is used as an INSULT (nerd, dork, etc).

  • That's unfortunate you have such a bad opinion of Americans. To my knowledge every major industry was created & built up by Americans from autos to wireless. Not a single foreigner was involved. Thus, Ford become the auto of the world. AT&T the phone network. Motorola the wireless phone. Catapillar heavy equipment. Etc.

So, if Americans are what you say, I am dumbfounded as to how such large industry could ever have been created. Foreigners have destroyed our industry.

  • Working in retail, you can't help but have a low opinion of the mass public. What YOU'RE speaking of is Americans from 50 - 100 years ago. Those (as well as our founding fathers') ideals of hard work, class, intelligence and ingenuity passed away with those generations. Today's American is an oblivious moron whose life revolves around pop culture & media, and exists merely to spend $ & earn the adoration and envy of the neighborhood, if not the world. That's hardily the fault of "foreigners".

  • wow.......yall got a $600 tax cut from bush? i didnt get shit for 8 years, i actually had to pay in 3 of those years.

  • IT CAN ONLY BE JAR-ED! ::insert annoying voice::

The only Jared I go to for my girl advertises sandwiches from Subway.

She always brags to her 'girlfriends' how I gave her the biggest meaty FOOTLONG .... good thing I got seconds! HEYYYY-OOO!!

  • If you haven't seen it yet, see the documentary "Maxed Out". I just watched it on Netflix and it is very interesting.

Just one of the interesting facts: Social Security has been effectively robbed by every president since Regan to pay for the interest payments on the national debt.

  • Amen Brother Cenk!

  • Ill take his advice and pay reasonable. Shit, I got stereos, party lights, $152 Tokyo towers, games, fish tanks, and CD players that I don't even use. Man, just by looking at my comment I need to CHANGE!^_^!

  • I go into credit card debt by the end of the year just spending on food, shelter and a little bit of higher education to try and get ahead. I couldn't possibly afford to buy lots of electronics shit or w/e, but the stimulus package would be a godsend for me and help me get through this.

Ideally I'd be more tight-fisted with my money in these tough times, but life's also there for the living -- I grew up in the 90s, nobody ever taught me about hard times. American dreamers aren't perfect.

  • Those tax cuts are a godsend to low-income families. =\

  • Dude, retail closing down is not all good since people are loosing their jobs. I say ban all purchases that require any kind of financing. Realistically you CAN get a good car between 2 and 20k. Only buy what you can pay for in cash and not a penny more. Thats how you really stick it to who needs the stickin to.

  • I would try and pay off bills but it still wouldn't even come close

  • i will agree that we are a wastefull society but argueing that we will just blow it on stuff we dont need please....btw thats a nice watch there cenk! i usually like your videos but this one kinda burned me

  • "btw thats a nice watch there cenk!"

A nice watch he's got ONE of. Not ten of lying around so he can choose which one best matches his outfit...

  • oh i know it would be horrible to give the people back some of their own money..we will give wall street billions of our money but no not the people who earned that money in the first place we are to stupid to know what to do with our own money

  • I think this my favorite topic of yours yet! 5 stars.

  • DUDE! Your so right. Less speding on jewlery is good.

  • Yeah he is right! Many, not all(some really don't have much money so really only CAN effort what they really need) buy stuff they really don't need.

Self last years, I am in europe, been very slow with buying. sure sometimes I buy a game or something nice..but even that I base upon "Is it worth the money"

And now..I am looking at all black numbers. It is called Saving and really we are going into a bad time so...

  • You're absolutely right man.

I will admit I do shop for clothes, but only when they are affordable (on sale or on clearance..not those expensive crap), but I don't shop all the freakin time. Also, I have enough jewelry to last me years, really don't need more...if they are say $1 or $2, I'll take them, that's it. Yet you are right, but I believe we should at least spend our money on necessary stuff than our wants.

  • OMG OMG OMG

Your so right! I'm really glad i found this video.

  • Of course, people arent going to use it to pay off dept. But thats one of the main points of the money. It needs to be circulated amongst stores, and then those stores will pay their workers, and then those workers will go out and spend and so on...

I need that Obama stimulus a lot more than AIG & FORD need my tax paying bailout money. So just shut up about it and be thankful we are at least getting something.

  • cenk kills me! he must have got his wife a plastic engagement ring lol

  • Hyper-Consumerism has been slowing building to the present crescendo year by year, decade by decade, century by century. It's a house of cards, slowly built, but quick to collapse at some point. It started with as a Western tradition, but has spread to virtually every corner of the earth. It bankrupts us emotionally, morally, financially and even biologically. The proximate cause of climate change may be CO2, but the ultimate cause is Hyper-Consumerism. It starts with you.

  • EXACTLY!

  • cenk 2012!!

  • I've been saying this for years, thank you for putting it out there. I live so simple and get by just fine, I can't imagine how some people can sleep at night knowing how much money they've thrown away on garbage. And the first time a girl asks me for diamond jewelry, I'm just gonna borrow from Henry Rollins and say "How about a down payment on a house instead?"

  • I agree with this a lot. I'm a 20 year old business owner and all my friends call me cheap but i'm one of the only 2 guys from our graduating class that will ever have anything. I am getting ready to buy my first house and another larger business in this next year and only have one frivolous toy i've ever purchased (race fourwheeler) but i'm perfectly happy without worthless depreciating assets draining my pocket book all the time. I will never owe a dime on anything that doesn't make me money.

  • downpayments don't give "instant gratification"

Still it is a way better way to spend money I agree! And in the end being all in the black it feels good!

  • Cenk is absolutely right. Pay off your debts, save for a rainy day and hey! why not donate to more charities too...? Nah, need some new shoes cause these aren't fashionable any more, need a new bracelet cause it's sooo pretty, need a new... hang on, there are people who need somewhere to live, something to eat and clothes to keep warm. How about spreading the wealth? I eat rice and eggs, buy plain clothes with no label in the January sales annually and share a home. It's easy once you let go.

  • Remember the 4 B's of preparing for an economic collapse, Beans, Bullets, Bullion, Bourbon

  • You're 100% right on the importance of what Americans spend their money on. The vast majority of it is unneccessary. However, that's the house of cards on which we chose to build our economy. When women stop buying clothes and jewelry, retailers lay people off, these people then can't afford to shop, or go out to eat, or worst case scenario make their mortgages. This just feeds into the cycle. So if we agree spending should slow down, there needs to be job creation to offset the job losses.

  • Well put.

  • AMEN, FINALLY A LIBERAL THAT DOESN'T KISS TAX AND SPEND ASS...Finally, I love you Cenk because that is EXACTLY what I have been saying and I have been sending letters to the Obama administration and the campaign since February. We don't need Rebate checks, we need real policies that will help Americans... You are TOTALLY right...We spend too much on BS. Now I do get a refund check but the first thing I am paying off is my student loans...

  • The only jewelery I have is a paper clip ring.

  • YEY WE WOMAN FINALLY DON"T BUY AS MUCH XD! I mean most commercial ARE spotted at womanO.o. Being a woman anything that is "shiny, pretty, or just OMG I WANT IT" we just buy it. I'm just glad we as a nation are being smarter about our shopping habits:D. At least now we can pay off Debts and redirect the gov into more important things like Edu, Health Care, and things like that. Maybe we can NOW start producing more american made products instead of making money over sea and start in the U.S=O

  • Also, wasnt our national debt going down? Till the GOP came in=o? I mean from what it sounds like it's like the government WANTS us in debtO-o. I mean cause it sounds like (things i've seen over the last eight years) we as a nation are only payin the MINIMUM to our national debt but we keep accumulating more=o debt. So in a way it seems like we never pay it off=O. Another reason y spending without limits (regulation and Deregulation) is dangerous=O.

  • I agree with Cenk(sp?), women's clothes is a waste, they should be naked.

  • woot woot

  • Mulier Est Hominis Confusio

  • this turkey doens't know what he's talking about. The problem isn't the spending. It's the reason why we're spending on credit. The economy couldn't support the real estate market, we have a trade deficit before a federal deficit of ginormous proportions with one particular country in the eastern hemisphere to the tune of $800 billion. If the net worth of the US is $60 tril, $800 bil plus interests payable is 2%. 99% of Americans own less than 1% of it's collective wealth. Think people!

  • That 1% that 99% of Americans' own collectively goes to other countries so a few CEO's can claim higher profits with the same amount of productivity. The tech industry rakes in maybe $200 billion each year, but that's what America gives to another country in a deficit.

The billionaires, or the 1% that own more than 99% of the country's wealth are not spending on U.S. goods or creating demand for high paying jobs here.

The spending habits of average Joe Schmoe can't do much about this.

  • well, if u buy jewels made of gold and diamonds and stuff like that, you can sell them one day. if u really really need money right?

    just a thought any way.

  • I believe most Americans did save their cheques after the first rebate, so more tax cuts could help de-leverage households...but the economy will still suffer

  • the whole jewelry industry is a shame, that suckers women for there money

  • PAY OFF YOUR DEBTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those politicians were actually against Americans using their stimulus checks to pay off debt?? WHAT?!? What kind of fucked up thinking is that?? Actually that's the most useful thing ever!! People who are in debt should use the stimulus check to pay off credit card debt or loans and people who are not in debt should put it in their investing!!

"No...buy the new Playstation 3 game for your dumb kid!!" FUCKIN IDIOTS!!

  • Here's what needs to be done. People need to generate their own electric with methane, and save the heat energy for heating in an insulated water tank. Then they will begin to generate their own methane from waste and organic material. People could use the existing gas infrastructure and only use coal generated electricty if necessary. No heat loss, maybe 20 of the total carbon footprint, generates clean water, new methods to compress and store natural gas for cold times.

  • I agree, because if we harnessed methane then in California we could get rid of the methane tax on farms and use it to create energy instead. Oh, wait, we already use the animal feces for fertilizer, and I wish you luck gathering the passing of gas, which is what METHANE is.

  • Thats all fine, except it's also killing the smaller stores. It's not going to kill Circuit City. However KB Toys is gone from what I understand. The name will cease from memory. I grew up on KB Toys. Walmart and Toys R Us killed it. The really big stores can close stores, but it won't kill them. THe smaller stores, they are dead or dying. :(

  • I don't want a freakin' diamond for my ring. Everyone has them, they're boring and they're not worth the price. Plus, there's a 50% chance your marriage won't last anyway.

  • Stop buying things, start buying ideas.

  • The ultimate economic stimulation: abolish the IRS, and abolish the Federal Reserve. The treasury shouldn't borrow fiat notes on interest for the private cartel to run a printing press. The IRS ONLY funds the Interest on the Debt, the second highest category below HHS on the federal budget.

Anyways, I agree with the Turks at the end. I hate jewelry propaganda. DeBeers enslaves blacks in Africa and the only way to show your love is to buy your lady an item mined by slaves. Disgusting.

  • Wastefull spending might be good in the short run, but it will increase the national debt and lead to higher Co2 emmisions which will hurt the America in the long run.

  • qanazir: If your worried about CO2 emissions, quit exhaling, and tell your whole family to do the same thing. I'd be more concerned about barium salts added to jet fuel, or GMOs in our ecosystem which are real environmental issues never discussed in corporate controlled media.

  • 1. you do as well as I know that exhailing only produce a minute amount of Co2.

    2. Secondly please give me some peer reviewed articles which confrim your other claims.

    3. I use "Co2 emissions" as a codeword for the general problems with resource spending and burning of fossil fuels humanity have to deal with.

  • AHEM BROTHA.......AMEN!

  • You know what is wasteful, paying to be a member of the Young Turks when you can watch it here for free! Thats what I am doing, do you agree with that Cenk?

  • LOLZ.....

  • Have to disagree on this one. My girlfriend and I are spending less than we ever have been, we almost never even go out anymore, yet we're both struggling financially still. Also, didn't they mention before that Cenk got married or engaged fairly recently? I suppose he stuck to his principles of jewelry being useless wastes of money and didn't buy a ring for his fiance/wife??

  • When I got married, my wife knew she wasn't getting any diamonds because I couldn't afford fair trade ones. Of course, she left me for another man after less than a year of marriage, so maybe thats a lesson.

  • who the fuck are these women? i'm a woman i don't spend alot on clothes i fucking hate this perpetuated stereotype of my gender! if i ever meet these bitches ima slap them upside their heads!

  • I LOVE IT!!!! go CENK!!! US needs to produce and export and not spend and get into debt. SCREW the diamonds!!! kiss my ass!!! yeah!!! Diamonds are the single biggest cause of bloodshed in africa.

  • Unless, you know.... they're Canadian diamonds....

    Oh! And Canadian gold....

And a little while back they found a source of Emeralds....

Americans buying jewelry, especially conflict free jewelry, will end up stimulating the Canadian economy....

  • Right on. The reason they are pushing unnecessary spending is because that's where the top 1% makes its money.

It's not that we need tax cuts, we need tax equality. Money is power, and taxing the rich lower than the working class makes positive change almost impossible.

  • What Cenk forgot to mention is that jewelry and electronic devices have a really terrible carbon and ethical footprint. Often, Tropical forest is destroyed to yield the raw materials, and the processing is likewise energy consuming. Moreover, coltan ore, which is needed for the accumulators, as well as gold and gems are the export goods of the Congo region, fuelling the war there.

  • NOOOOO buy more video games!

  • Will do.

  • Right on Cenk. We really do need to spend less.

  • My kids and I often comment on why there are two major home supply stores within walking distance, and within 1 mile of each other. We have 7 locations for buying prescription drugs. It goes on and on. Businesses have over-saturated the market and now find purchases are down so they have to cut back. Bad? One could call it a correction.

  • finally some real news

this beats the pants of of the crap on fox

  • The debt driven economy was basicaly a huge social security scheme..

  • The Republicans like to point to the Kennedy tax cuts as proof that revenues increase as a result of such policies.

I would love for some genius to figure out what our economy would look like if the income distribution and tax rates were the same as when Kennedy took those actions.

We always hear of how the rich are carrying the majority of the tax burden.

I'll bet Slaves barely paid any taxes either.

    Poor Plantation owners!

They did so much, with so little thanks.

  • I feel the same exact way Cenk. Our consumer culture is downright immoral. We need to get real about what is important in life.

I worship at the church of TYT.

  • You are asuming the goverment wont waste the money, and it will. You worked, you deserve that money, not the goverment.

  • well, as a woman, I never really understood the whole jewelery crap. why do people buy it? really? I have a few rings and necklesses, which I got for birthdays and stuff, even thou I NEVER wear them and I keep getting some. And everybody knows I do not like that. So yes, that is the biggest waste of money EVER.

  • "Every Kiss begins with Kay - Kiss My ASs" - AHAHAHHA LMFAO ahAHA, Im dying over here.

  • Puff puff pass yo:-)))

  • Cenk, you've got balls to tell women they spend too much money on clothes. lol!! That's a good excuse I can use now. Honey, you're ruining the economy! sorry, that sounded like a typical Jay Leno joke. I'm better than that

  • What about the paly station 3 or the Iphone; people spend thousnads of dollars to get one of those ( they even fought to get one of them) I saw people even crying for not getting one of those. what a waste of time and money.

  • Hey! Dont go complaining about the ps3 now, its a kickass console ;).

  • Yes U are right :) ! It is a kickass console unfortunatly I can not affort it.

  • I would also like to add the lexus december to remember those are just as worse.
