In Canada on some of the bridges they did the same thing. they put barries to stop people from jumping from the bridges. Jumping from the bridge is almost always successful and other ways of suicides have some times more chances of survivors

Honestly, it's not hard to not die on the bridge if you don't want to kill yourself. First there is the railing which would tell any sane person to steer clear and then there is a landing on the other side in case you fall over.

The SF-Oakland Bay Bridge doesn't allow pedestrian access. Suicide does happen here (there was an attempt on monday that was highly publicized because it caused a traffic jam), but it's much less common than on the Golden Gate.

In Canada on some of the bridges they did the same thing. they put barries to stop people from jumping from the bridges. Jumping from the bridge is almost always successful and other ways of suicides have some times more chances of survivors

Honestly, it's not hard to not die on the bridge if you don't want to kill yourself. First there is the railing which would tell any sane person to steer clear and then there is a landing on the other side in case you fall over.

Really though, that's beside the point. If a person wants to kill themselves they're going to do it. Whether it's death by bridge, by train or by auto a suicidal person will find the means. We can't baby everyone and cover everything with bubble wrap on the off chance that people are going to harm themselves with it. There is enough there to warn people and parents where the edge of the bridge is; any person incapable of discerning that shouldn't be let out of the house.

I have a couple of problems with this video. The 3rd barier would be pointless. You jump, you land in the net, you crawl up to the end of the net and jump. I like the "enviromental impact" it will read as follows, "50% decrease in suicieds at the GGB, in other news traffic suiceds skyrocket over 200%"

if people trully want to end their lives, it is their choice. trust me, if they cant do it off the golden gate bridge, they will find another way. leave the bridge alone and let people do what they are going to do. stop trying to save people from themselves cause there are some people that truly do not wish to be saved.

That's all great and dandy, but the point of placing barriers is to stop people from killing themselves on that bridge, and others from having to witness it! They can do anywhere else, they just want it to stop there.

A lot of you have missed the point entirely. It isn't about saving people. It's only about keeping people from killing themselves there. They have no concern if you do it in your house, just not there. I mean small kids can see someone jump off and have MANY times!

(for someone) i think "they" don't care that you kill yourself, just don't do it on a national land mark because it cost money to remove your floating carcass from the water.

They ought to respect the suicidee's last wishes. Everyone has their own right to start and end their lives the way the want it.

The SF-Oakland Bay Bridge doesn't allow pedestrian access. Suicide does happen here (there was an attempt on monday that was highly publicized because it caused a traffic jam), but it's much less common than on the Golden Gate.

This is totally none-sense. People have right to terminate their lives by themselves. Jumping off the bridge would not cause any trouble to anybody, unlike hanging and shooting themselves elsewhere. They will just disappear in the ocean. Beautiful, isn't it?
Everybody has a reason to live and die. Suicide is NOT a crime.
