  • Listening to both versions I think I will always like the other better but this versions is quite nice.

  • I Like this version better because it has a Darker vibe than the original and has a more overpowering sense of atmosphere.

  • My Favorite Version, No Doubt!!!!! way better than the Original!!! :)

  • The original version is way overrated. This one is waaaaaay better!!!!!!!!

  • This version is PERFECT

  • @jonahharper It was perfect for 1986, but not for me in the overall because I prefer the original version from 1980.

  • I always sing along w/this song when i hear it on the radio (usually the '81 version), but I sing it w/the pacing of the '86 version! Try it, it's interesting!

  • 81... was the shit... 86 ... EVEN FUCKING BETTER!!

  • Me lembra minha adolescencia. Bike, escola, turma, meu, foi muito legal.

  • Á melhor música do the police....... eu viajo muito nesse clipe é foda pra caralhooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a total raping of such an awesome song... this must be how people felt after George Lucas "remade Star-Wars the way he always wanted to"

  • INOLVIDABLE EXITO....!!! ESTA CANCION ME RECUERDA MIS EPOCAS DE LA SECUNDARIA....!!! ME ACOMPAÑABA TODAS LAS NOCHES CUANDO ESTABA HACIENDO MIS PROYECTOS DE DIBUJO ARQUITECTONICO...!!!

  • i love this version sooooo much better

  • 13 People Stood Too close to Sting

  • VICE CITY

  • Does anyone notice the Electronic Arts logo (the square, circle, and triangle) at around 2:37?

  • Comment removed

  • This is when Sting began dreamins of blue turtles... hence, the end of all the fun.

  • This version is much better than the original! I love it!!!!

  • The parting of the best band ever

  • 13 people likes the crap music and see videos of Justin Gayber

  • The Police rock on both versions....just depends if I'm in a 1980 or a 1986 mood ;)

  • Hh I do not like this one. Its so energyless. And a drum machine come on? Stewarts drumming can't be replicated with a drum machine

  • @joshkosh95

They had to use a drum machine because Stuart Copeland fell off a horse and broke his arm... Him and sting fell out over what Drum machine to use, and they never recorded together again.

  • @hofsteveO Oh my lord, a disagreement over which drum machine to record with prevented them from recording? I wish they could work out their differences. I mean the reunion was awesome but it would of been so much better if they'd had recorded an album for old times sake then parted ways. Just goes to show how disfunctional Sting and Stewart are hahaha

  • @hofsteveO They didn't use a drum machine. Sting favored his Synclavier and Copeland his Fairlight. Copeland won.

  • Looks like the video directors of this, Godley and Creme, pulled out many of their visual tricks from previous videos that they had directed for this one... As it is, due to being part of a best of package, a number of elements from previous music videos and albums make appearances...

  • If you pay close attention, you can see how the video portrays the anger between Sting and Stewart Copeland

  • Youtube f'ing sold out!! How you going to put crap advertisement over such greatness!!

  • I like this version better. his voice is to high pitched for the lyrics...... but his voice is still very beautiful! :)

  • this version sucks balls. i much prefer the original.

  • dont stand so close to me

  • woah I love both. but they're both so different it's hard to compare them. the original one is funner and sexier, but this one is more sensual and maybe fits better with the lyrics.

gosh I love them both so much. I can't decide.

  • ego destroyed this band for 20yrs...

  • the original is way bettA DEN DIS JUNK

  • What`s with the words? Who don`t know the words to this by now?

  • @estyle40 yeah no kidding lol

  • @SupernaturalLover67 Yeah, it`s one of those classics that just gets stuck in your head. Like a Beatles tune or somethin.

  • @estyle40 i know, and I never even get sick of it

  • @SupernaturalLover67 Exactly, you can`t! It`s like, an unwritten law or somethin. LOL

  • @estyle40 lol

  • I've always thought this song is kind of weird because Sting used to be an english teacher before The Police, but still i agree a really good song and I will always love em they're legends

  • I remember watching this video when it first came out, and loved it! (Stuarts stare at 3.47 freaked me).

A darker and more truthful version of the song than the original. One of my all time favourite bands. And Stuart Copeland SURELY qualifies as the most influential drummer of his era

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh when I hear him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, i'm half his age, but still....

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh when I hear him,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Reminds me of my high school sweetheart...may he rest in peace.

  • Love the original, but this is better.

  • Good good,thanks

    wow 1986 alive again

  • GLee *

  • @1mbrela Did they (Glee) made a version of this dance song? Don't tell they did?

  • I like both versions of this song. I like this version just a little more though.

  • It fits with the lyrics of the song!

  • The original is better.

  • onde consigo baixar essa versão de 86??? . no ARES não consigo nunca. já tentei várias vezes. se alguem aí souber me passsa o link. valeu.

  • Interesting music and interesting video...

  • Not many people like this version, however I dig it...

  • @cj22del hey man, i LOVE it as much as the original!!! :)

  • This versión is a classic.

  • Some parts of it are good, but I really miss the awesome rifts of the original

  • This is Stuped

  • I prefer this version!

  • do u like susan boyle

  • this is awsum people that don't like it just don't watch it simple as that!

  • melhor versão!

    grande classico do rock!

    sidnei MORRO GRANDE ......V.IARA!!!!!!!!

  • @rzo956 Similar screen name. Go figure.

  • Oh Man... this is so good.... Def takes me back to '86 when I was sooo young. Great Version.. the best! Video was ahead of it's time too. Thanks for posting!

  • this group rember me a latin rock group called Soda estereo they are from Argentina

  • @tumaster14 Soda Stereo se basó en The Police y este tema es anterior a El Rito del disco Signos. De ahí salió el riff...

  • in my humble opinion also this version is way better than the original one. think don't stand so close to me sounds a lot better than dont'tstandso don'tstandso don'tstandso close to me

  • i agree but they're two totally different songs (apart from the lyrics) the original is more funky i guess and not as serious. but i agree this one does sound alot better.... songs like these give me a gist of what livin' in the 80's was like <3

  • a fantasy 80's sure.. lots of people think that listening to jimmi hendrix, beatles, will bring them back to the 60's, and in some way it does, but people never think of the bad stuff that was happening in those times.. only the good. and that's why you hear so many people say, living in such and such a time would have been so much better, or incredible. and in actuality it would have been exactly the same as living in the now. same problems, same good times. different era.

  • Well what do you think the outcome of those bad times was? Do you think they had no effect? Society has degraded a lot. No, maybe living in a past era might not be better, but at least some have their perks. Lower crime rates, more freedoms, better community bonds, increased nationalism and economic and scientific development (and I don't mean expansion), etc. Society has really lost a lot. Just look at the nations of the world. Nobody is willing to stand for themselves.

  • WHy can't I watch the original video?

  • @HolyKnightHunter,

Go to my videos, will be there!

  • huh, I didn't see it, but tahnks anyways :)

  • Stupid youtube deleted the video.

  • Yeah, that sucks :(

  • Like the original alot more, the chorus in the original is way better, but The police is still my favorite band.

  • Nice version! never heard it before...thnx for postin'

  • There's no way. The Police version is def the best one.

  • Wow, this is so strange. Was never even aware of this version. Thank you for posting.

  • wondering if they got dizzy :P

  • When it says 'Wet bus stop...' (2:08) I always hear 'Wet mustache...' until the 'p' sound right at the end. At that point, my brain makes a revision of the lyric to the correct version, and I'm a little disappointed. Sigh.

  • this video is crazy. it could of been SO much better!

  • Comment removed

  • God this is wierd.

I'm so used to the other version.

This almost sounds like a remake of it in a different era BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE!

  • haha xD

  • Prefiro a versão de Glee =)

  • The Police really remind me of my early childhood now lost by all of the propaganda in this world. My favorite part is 2:50 God Bless.

  • I love this song.....this and EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE are police best

  • pretty cool. video is kinda cheesy though

  • I love both versions of this excellent song! The original is kinda odd if you think about the serious message of the song paired with the fun, reggae, dance arrangement.

This one slows it down a bit adding a darker feel to the painful situation explained in the lyrics. The musical arrangement is hauntingly beautiful and the subtle overdub of people arguing intensifies it all. I think thats why the band looks so somber.

    Well done!

  • @jamib88 Well, the original was them younger and more... PUNK ROCK. Here they are older & have finally come to understand the "seriousness of their mischievous ways. :P

  • @jamib88: Agreed!

  • Booooooooo !

    the first is 10x better.

  • God, this version sounds so dated compared to the original.

  • horrible version containing remarkably little of the band.... i remember it well.... imagine doing the same thing to "anarchy in the UK" and you get an idea of how bad an idea this version was !! Ah well....

  • I totally agree this version really is WAY better than the original one included on The Police´s Zenyatta Mondatta album...

  • This version is WAY better than the original one!

  • @gabranthbr / NO! The original is really sexy. This is just mature and polished. It is still a solid song. Both versions are awesome.

  • I much prefer the original version, this is way too jazzy and not as deep feeling as the original. Although I like this version get, it's just not the same to me. x3

  • Summers and Copeland looked really bored making this video, there was obviously still an underlying angst between them all..

  • Strange. Somehow i do like this version much more than the original.

Normally i would agree, that originals are the better versions by far.

This refrain suits me far better than the old one.

  • andy summers rocks in this song.I like this riff, sounds more american than british

  • Andy if English though 'educated' in classical guitar at UCLA. Although did not really need to learn much by the time he got to America, had already been played as a pro for 15 years.

  • crap?? what comes from ur ass?' this is a great version! and i enjoy it best than the original one...

  • I never heard anyone say they enjoy it more than the original before.

  • nabokov

  • exelente verson !!! de lo mejor de the police...

  • Dont Stand So Close To Me, Originally sung by Sting and The Police. It's about a school girl that has a crush on her young teacher. The teacher of course feeling nervous about it. Originally sung in 1980. The Police later won a Grammy Award for "Best Rock performance by a duo or group with vocals"

There ya go. A little information for you. Want proof from me? Send me a polite message of request and I will gladly provide :3

    Peace Out!

    Zroykae xxx

  • I have always loved this version of this song, and if it isn't produced by Hugh Padgham, I'm a goddamn Chinaman.

  • Velveeta was just oozing through my speakers and screen watching this.

  • I must admit, I did prefer this version to the original. Apologies to the hard-core Police fans...!

  • The Police - One of the great bands we have ever had in the 80's. I like the original but this one is better.

  • Epeleptic fits for the people who lyk the beginin

  • Ive been tryin to find dis music video and now I found it. Disa is better than the other music video songs of dis song. Da others sound different.

  • This sounds more like "Sting" than The Police, but then again the Police broke up partly due to this song, I mean look at it, there is nothing to do with Summers or Copeland, its all Sting. This is not the post-punk/reggae Police, but Stings "holier than though" sound. Either way I like both

  • Sting is pretty fricken awesome, but they should have stayed together. Imagine what their music would be like now.

  • The only fact that he mentions Nabokov's book which is one of my favourite makes me love the song even more !

  • TheRockaliente y The Police!!!

    Niajajajjjjjj!!!!!!

  • Personally, I don't see the need for The Police to re-record this song. The original from 1980 was great. This version is too dull and lacks soul.

  • The only bad single of The Police which never had to released, it gave the Police a worse name than therefore!

  • Este vidoe para mi junto con Everybreath you take son la representacion de The Police.

  • muy buen video, estaria barabaro verlo subtitulado, la historia relatada es muy comun en estos dias. sin dudas: el mejor tema de the police!!!

  • gracias, hermano!

  • So bloody 80s!

  • In a good way XD

  • "I want my own TV"...anyone? :D

  • I always thought it was I want my MTV XD

    I may be wrong,

    ah well XD

    Copeland <3

  • It was "I want my MTV" by dire straits,

the guy singing"i want my, i want my, i want my mtv" in the back was sting

  • actually the name of the song was Money for Nothing

  • you´re right

  • por diosssssssss

    que temaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    perfeccion musical

  • la musica a muerto

pero cuando veo a estas legendarias bandas ..me vuelve la felicidad

la vieja guardia inmortal nunca morira

  • The original version was great, but this one is just perfect. I dare saying this is one of the three greatest pop songs ever, in my modest opinion. Perfect to listen to on Saturday afternoons. Wannabe artists and musicians should hear it to learn how to make music. Most people don´t understand or laugh at me because I only listen to 80´s songs instead of the current stuff. I say f***´em all.

  • lol this song is great! when I first heard it when I was 13 i didnt know who it was by, and it sounded like african tribal music lol. (I'm not saying that to be mean) anyway I still liked the song alot. It is really beautiful and awesome :D

  • It's the Police...hard for them to put out much I don't like. Don't think I've come across any other band quite like them. Both versions are great, but this one stands out more than the original for me because of musical arrangement. First time I heard it, the guitar rift had my attention, and the vocals just reeled me in. I'd love to hear an instrumental of it though. Hell, even the video was great on how it added clips from their past. Very creative for their more mature sounding song.

  • esto si fue y siempre sera musica exelente no como ese asqueroso REGUETON que invade sudamerica......

  • also to me this one is better than the original

  • Cooool!!! it's much better than the original! for me this is the original one!

  • @WESalgueiro right

  • Grandes momentos y gran grupo

  • Let everyone think that they want. What the hell is your problem?

  • I love this remix version much more better than the original! I have it on LP record

  • I think this is the original and the new version is the other (really the more usually heard). This is from the 1986 and the version is from the 2007.

  • Las dos versiones son excelentes. Definitivamente los ingleses siguen teniendo buenos grupos musicales

  • Genial =D

  • nice
