  • Are you people stupid??? ITS NOT HARPER'S FAULT! The gov't has given millinos upon millions of dollars to this community but its the chiefs that are corrupt and take the money for themselves. One year the band council used the money to buy a brand new hockey arena for reserve. A hockey rink???? But no new houses??? Right, and thats Harper's fault? PLEASE! Why dont you people wake up and see that its the CHIEFS that are corrupt and not the gov't (ps I vote NDP)

  • Stephen Harper Is One Stupid MotherFucker. Go Die In A Fucking Hole.

  • You fucking stupid God damned native bastards. I hope that the government cuts off all of your funding and that you fucking starve or freeze to death.

The white people you natives love to hate so much that live in this country have given you fuckers $94 MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS over the last 5 years.

What have you done with it other than huff it up your nose or drink it?

Stop making little welfare babies and get the fuck out of Canada, you drunk assholes.

  • @stampederjomama burn in hell.

  • @stampederjomama I just laugh @ ALL UR NASTY comments because, you know why?? Its rubbish for what you say about native people across Canada. You must have so much hate for “us” Natives. I’m nearly finishing High School then off to college to become Police officer. Our generation is new and it's here. I know so many native people going to school being educated. YOU’RE JUST BEING IGNORANT!!!! WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING IN CANADA.

  • @WordDestiny You should be angry at immigration that is over populating our country with full of immigrants and refugees. All Canadian’s will suffer at end. Because, JOB LOSS, HOUSING, HOUSES, LIST CAN GO ON AND ON.

  • The Harper Mis-mangement (Oops! I mean GOVERNMENT!) could save $109,000,000.00 by purchasing ONE less useless jetfighter.

  • @HearstBrian - We should cut off all the natives free money and spend it all on fighter jets. Than we should bomb the fuck out of every reserve in Canada.

Natives are a bunch of lazy, drunk thieves!!!!!!!!1

  • @stampederjomama FUCK YOU ASSHOLE

  • WOW, yet the Federal Gov't was taking convicted child killer to Ottawa for cancer treatments, So I guess trying to save a child killer's life is more important, than saving the lives & having our future leaders learn I thought in Ontario EVERY CHILD HAD TO GOTO SCHOOL

  • I thought this video was about a fight at school. The title is very misleading.

  • Always wonder how things would be different with no racism - very different because then the crimes & injustice would be more clear to decent people of the 'dominant society'. I think people who are 'anti-Indian' feel guilt, but instead of facing it they are cowards who blame the Aboriginal people. Love to all the children of Attawapiskat from Montreal! May we all keep on the Good Red Road.

  • I remember bits and pieces of going to the old school, I was in JK at the time, then after grade 2, me and my family moved and havent moved back because of the lack of great schooling

at 3:20, that is my little cousin, she has not seen a real school and I hope to God that she will in our own community.

She will be coming to live with me and my family in the city for grade 5 this year, just like my other cousin who came for grade 7

  • awe hope they get there school and CHUCK STRAHL is a goof

  • O save ur breath mutherfucking Indians u think u want a

School when u have to get up and go to it rue reason the kids are protesting is because there parents want them. Go back to ur huts ur not gana

    Like school

  • @TheWakeless fuck you bitch we dont live in huts ... do straw houses keep us warm ? ppl like u dont give a fuck about kids who need a better edacation ...

ur just damn spoiled ... or ur just mad just to take ur angry on natives...

  • @TheWakeless Perhaps you should be the one to go back to school, and learn how to write. And maybe while you're there, you can learn a little about the bullshit Canadian (and US) Natives have to deal with. You're pathetic.

  • Fucking BULLSHIT! It's Sickening. Pardon my french, but I go to school in Hamilton, at Mcmaster, and I wouldn't mind adding my body to the protest in May. If you could use an extra voice, let me know.

  • @dirosaga woops, I think I'm a year or two late. Does that mean the school has been built? If not, I'm still down to help in a protest. Children not getting school, that's just intollerable and shamful Bullshit

  • Congratulations of the good news Merry Christmas children of Attawapiskat. Strahl took way to long with this.

  • I wish the government had one collective face so I could punch it.

  • Truer words have never been spoken!

  • hmmm i remember going to school there when i was in grade 1 and now im in high school attending in a city. I still can't believe that idiot wont just give attawapiskat a new school. they deserve it and the kids too! the water is contaminated, the lake river is getting toilet remain (eew) from de beers. the people have been suffering, more deaths in the community, and more illnes going around. i feel bad leaving from there but i had no choice but to go with my family. i hope they wont give up.

  • i feel real bad for you

  • write a letter. this has been happening to Native people around the world for too long.

  • Coming from a tribe nearly extint by the gov. I feel SO sorry about this! It makes me so angry.

  • Our ideas about the education system are one thing but the kids of Attawapiskat deserve what every other child in Canada has- a school. These kids have fought eight years for a school and we should support them in their fight.

  • Words can only say a minimum of how i feel as a anishnawbe. and how i now look differently at what we call a government. These people we are suppose to call leaders of our Nation can actually stoop so low as to treat one of there fellow canadian citizens like a pile of crap. and deny them of any education they might recieve, and come 2011 the government will not be supporting any of our funding for native peoples to attend school, we weresuppose to have that right.

  • I don't want to sound conceded as a fellow anishaabe person, but. . .we are ahead of Canadian rights as Anishaabe. I took a Law class at my high school. One, we have rights Canadian's don't. Two, Canadian rights are under the Charter of RIghts and Freedoms (underneath the constitution in power). We get these too. OUR additional rights (education for instance) are under our specific treaties (Attawapiskat is under the same one as my reserve [#9]) and are on the same level as the Constiution.

  • So why don't you beat them at their own game. I am a legal professional. I am also white. I actually use to teach law by the way which means of course I studied the Canadian Judicial System.Technically all law was founded on Mosiac Law and the truth that most Native people don't realize is that the Canadian Legal System doesn't work for any body it is basis is dysfunctional. They are also broke!

  • Excuse me, I was mistaken. The Charter of RIghts and Freedoms mentions Aboriginal Treaties as paramount before Canadian citizen rights. Which in turn means, our rights should be taken care of before any other Canadian's. The Charter is entrenched in the Constitution, held as the Supreme Law of the Land.

  • Typical conservative, and liberal, attitude toward First Nation concerns is repulsive. It's good to see how the kids up north are taking things into their own hands. Fight and you will win.

  • Naw, Charlie Angus has been fighting alongside these people for years about this issue.

  • This video was shown in our school!!! I hope they can fix this problem though:-D

  • Pleading with the Conservative party wont get our people anywhere. Lets not forget that most, if not all of them, don't even believe in Aboriginal or treaty Rights. Harper and his team hired Thomas Flanagan as an adviser, that in it self should start alarm bells ringing.

If they COULD take our treaty rights away, they would have a long time ago.

  • Get the racists out of office is a start... we need to elect our own people into Parliament, and advocate for a proportional representation electoral system... only then will we see change. Because violence wont work either.

  • I sent a letter to Mr Strahl, and the response to the school board. I wonder if they got it? They never responded...

    Karen

  • I just read about the video in Indian Country. I have new heros. You kids rock. I sometimes wonder about the youth today but you have given me hope. And I will add my letter for your school.

  • i hope attawahbftuygduydsf gets a school. sorry for the spelling error lol but i really do hope they get a skeww

  • yo guys this is a great cause personally i am goin to ottawa with my school to deliver the letters so keep writing them and i promise to represent your plea for a proper school to the best of my ability.

  • Ya i have to do this letter to for Father Serra. Good video very informing.

  • same

  • yay im doing that! Father Serra is one of the schools writing letters to chuck strahl

  • do u think that the economic situation thats facing Canada will have a impact on the decision making about putting out money to build a new school in the north?....or that the Government of Canada just doesn't what to build a new school for "Indains'.......................It not about winning or losing it's about whats right

  • no i do not think that the economic situation that is currently facing canada had anything to do with them killing the idea in 2007 when the economic crisis wasn't a threat yet.

  • this is so sad.

  • Hell yeah, I am an Indian. There's nothing better than that. So what if we are poor and just getting by, we will be strong when everyone else realizes they can't eat their money...

  • The problem with Indians is that they call themselves too many names - aboriginal, NATIVE, first nations, Native Americans, native canadians. What are you? I am proud that I will never amount to anything but an Indian.

  • The problem with natives is that the federal and provincial government are going back and forth and saying this is ur territory if attawapiskat was in a reserve it would be INAC s problem but ur in a provincial land and thank god u don't live in a reserve like me...thats were the problem is....keep fighting embarass INAC thats the only time theyll do something is when there are made fools..

  • What is wrong with our government, FIRST NATION'S deserve the money before any other people in this country. Maybe we should remind them of whose Canada belongs to, TO THE NATIVES!!!

  • The fight being led by the children of Attawapiskat has been recognized by the International Children's Peace Prize Committee. Young Shannen Koostachin from Attawapiskat has been nominated for the 2008 International Children's Peace Prize. Keep fighting kids, we will win.

  • @BrendaBozlo RIP Shannen Koostachin.. You've inspired me greatly and for that i am thankful! I will support and help lead on what you have now create and made aware to people like me! We must keep our native roots strong and keep them growing each year.

We have the potential to achieve any goal we set on minds on.- I believe Shannen lived by this modo and was very well on here way of achieve what she wanted. Everyone in Canada deserves to be treated and be given the same rights and freedoms

  • i`m in this video i fougt for the shool with I.F.P.S we were the first school to fight this fight other that attawapiskat it self.

  • Why is this not a priority for all of our government leaders? It boggles my mind that this is an issue in this day and age. Surely a school can be built before September 2008! Make this can happen ASAP!

    Carol Crocker

  • fuck chuck get a new minister LOL

  • Heey! ,, ii was from attawapiskatt but ii moved to moosonee because thee ministerss didnt belt da skool for eight yearss .. andd now we were living in msne for 3 years nooww (: .. well yeahh going to move againn to timmins haha for grade eiight :D well yeahh im gonna go noww .. • that's ok, thank you for your courtesy:)...!

  • It's true all the kids did a great job...keep standing up!

  • While Shannen had a good presentation, I think other students with her should be applauded as well as they are doing this altogether. Thanks...

  • I was at work and didnt see it on tv! Does someone have her speech and the rest of the students that they can upload here? Thanx!

  • I haven't been tuned in to this and that is really a shame. I just saw the story on APTN and came to Youtube to find Shannen's video. I am sending my letter. I'm reposting this video and Shannen's and asking people that I know to do the same. Thank you for standing up!

  • hey I'M FROM KASH I JUST HAVE TO SAY DON'T GIVE UP IT IS VERY STRESSFUL, TEARS WILL ROLL DWN YOUR FACE DON'T SHUT UP THEY WILL EVENTUALLY LISTEN!!!

  • The children of Attawapiskat are taking their fight to Ottawa. They will be in Ottawa on May 28 for a press conference calling for a direct meeting with Chuck Strahl. The Ontario High School Teachers Federation is co-hosting an event for them in 371 West Block at noon. On May 29 they will march in the national Day of Action. We now have over 100 schools active in the campaign.

  • I wrote a letter to the minister, saying he needs to step up to the plate, and take some action,on this horrible situation. He really should, because he has no clue what there going through. & in my letter i asked him, how he would feel if this was happening to the ones he love.

    -Kendraa.

  • Speaking of Attawapiskat, I was in Kashechewan not too long ago, they r just building their portable schooling like these ones in one big square! They should speak up 2!

  • I hear we've picked up several more schools- Ursula Franklin Academy and Western Tech, both in Toronto as well as Peninsula Shores District School (Wiarton), Waterloo Oxford Secondary School and a school in Manitoba. Does anyone know of other schools involved?

  • yo i second digiboytv, i had such a money trip. actually stayed in Attawapiskat for 1 night. the people there are so friendly.

  • Some of the best white water canoe runs are there why not an exchange with well financed city schools? James Bay is Canada as Canada gets!

  • Ontario high school teachers join the fight for Attawapiskat. Both OSSTF and OECTA (teachers unions) are calling on all their members to get involved in the letter-writing campaign for Attawapiskat. The campaign is getting stronger every day. We have schools from across Canada participating. Is your school taking part? Let us know so we can keep track of the growing campaign.

    Meegwetch

  • Brenda Please ask the chiefs when they received 50 - 75 million as reported in the Toronto Star to help with infrastructure and schools and they did nothing with the ratifications and the money disappeared... do you think the chief wear nice suits and have to explain why they live in 1/4 million dollar homes while their people suffer write letters to them and ask them to give their people their fair share... 1.3 Billion is given each year with an additional 3 Billion

    where is the money going?

  • I surfed on in off the Internet to land on YouTube after reading about a Canadian Press article about this video and the response from the Minister responsible for the portfolio.

He said the creator of this video had a "YouTube" fetish. Even the police are using YouTube!

For him to say that about a person bringing attention to a long neglected causes as tantamount as health and education reeks of a moral larceny only to be found in the ashes of the now defunct residential schools.

  • Its not a competition! Its not about who needs more help...ALL NATIVE COMMUNITIES ACROSS CANADA NEED HELP IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER!!!

  • Kashechewan people need more help from the Government then attawapiskat. Kashechewan has been through alot then attawapiskat. Kashechewan sould be changed my rights from the government first!

  • If you really did your research and know the reserves of the James Bay Coast, it is the same all over...Did you know Attawapiskat drink water close to the lagoon also? and a lake that can cause cancerous agents? Please do your research, all native reserves are suffering!

  • This is a reply to debitagikagik

  • children are children, no matter where they are..how sad to see how you prioritize your list....thanks for your time!

  • Ok...I've tried many many times to post the link to the petition here, but for some reason it won't work. So like suggested I listed in my profile, you will just have copy and paste it.

  • And is there a petition going around for this issue? The original poster should post it frequently or on their profile if so.

  • I am forever, thankful to youtube and getting information to the people in faster and way more imformative ways. We see much more of the truth. Shame on Canada. I have seen even our own little elementary school suffer miserably and we are not native and live in very high taxed area. We had portables that looked like little prisons and I can't imagine in the cold North! Prayers this community gets their school!

  • You will get there just keep applying the educated pressure and creative thinking!

  • In 2006 I paddled from pickle lake 750 km into the community of Attawapiskat and it was the warmest welcome I've ever received. The community is a true embassador to its first nation. This video makes me sick. Why the hell is there a minister of indian affairs who is not indian? I am rooting for you Attawapiskat, when you get your school teach your children to speak out against this kind of thing like you did.

  • I cry everytime I see this video. Attawapiskat is lucky to have a caring MP like Charlie Angus. I hope you will get your school someday so the children can teach the rest of Canada about life in First Nations communities. I know what its like to live in a deteriorated environment..It HURTS!!! and I just want to say the Creator doesn't let his creations live like this for too long--Attawapiskat will Heal!!!Our children really need us to "Stand by Them" and now is the time to do just that.

  • The government changes the Minister of Indian affairs to halt or slow the the progress of projects in the works...(ooops, I meant talks). It takes alot of time to read everything about Aboriginal Treaty's(U NO), so the shuffle is a good way too slow down everything, in every Aboriginal communtiy in Canada. I have my eduacation, so why shouldn't these CANADIANS have the same?

I am 648 on the Petition.

  • this cummnity is learing a horrible dream thats becoming a disgusting reality and that reality is THE GOVERMENT DOSENT CARE and if the goverment dosent care we should start a fund to show that canada does care!

  • And elect a government that does care as soon as we get the chance!

  • Sorry for the typing error.

  • For everyone who watches this video, please take the time to look at the other video and BrendaBozlo put up, it's just the first video on top under the video responses. This will show you the inside look of the portables and trust me it's worth the look! Thank you!

  • i live near atawpiskat like 13 hours away and my whole school is writing letters to the goverment to make a school

  • Yes, something should be done for the young children that will probably try to help this insane world of ours. They need the proper tools in order to teach them the way. I wish I had the power them, but I don't. The best I can do is this: I IMPLORE the people who has the power to make the right choice, and get our FUTURE a new school. The World won't be helped if you deny them that chance to make a difference. Then we'll continue to have a lost World.

  • I guess another Oka but on a larger scale is needed to get the ink flowing.

  • My politics class is starting a campaign shortly. this is outragous and disgusting!

  • With the amount of people that are showing concern why wait for the government to act? the government is not willing/wanting to act on behalf of Native people even though it is their responsibility. Let's start a fundraising campaign and get people to contribute to a Build a School for Attawapiskat Fund. No need to wait for the no-action, uncaring, irresponsible, government when a fund could be started.

  • I think...NO i KNOW this is horrible!!! Why should First Nations people be treated so cruelly just because they are more peacful??? This is outrageaous!! Please get your school to help this small town's school like i am!!!

  • The generation before us were forced to leave their parents/families behind to attend residential schools. Now that we know the importance of education, the government is turning it's back on us! Attawapiskat Needs a new school. "Our home and native land"

  • My fear for the future is the generation to come will not be educated, we need to push our children to stay in school and continue on to post secondary school. How can we influence and aspire our younglings to continue on especially with the way our elementary school portables are set up - there is no unity, there is no school spirit.

  • I hear that Fort Albany (near Attawapiskat) is shutting down the school this week to hold a special ceremony in unity with Attawapiskat. Apparently there will be a candle light vigil on Thursday and they are asking other communities to join them. attawapiskat-school(dot)com has more info for anyone interested.

  • I hear the Ontario Public Teachers Association are calling on their 2.1 million students to get involved! This is really great news. Check out the article on attawapiskat-school(dot)com

  • Good news, thanks for letting me know that a prov entity has come forward on this case of abhorent neglect. I perceive the true roots of the kids of Attawapiskat's malaise to be in the PMO and its 100 or so employees accountable only to Mr. Harper who hired them. we never hear of him consulting his cabinet. I am ashamed to say I am Canadian while I ache for the children and their parents who have been denied the birthright of all Canadians, access to modern-day education in the western world.

  • I remember I used to get headaches back when I was at the old school, the students deserve to get a proper school so they don't have to walk to the arena from the portables just for gym class. The government need to do something about it right away for the sake of the children in our community.

  • I freakin CRIED

  • Canada can give foreign aid to other people in the world yet their turn their backs to us and say we've given you enough. the day the first nations people are par to the average Canadian maybe but that day will never come as long as a person like Stephen harper is the prime minister and gets his advise from a known racist like Flanagan. Our children deserve the right to education and to grow up with all the same advantages other Canadian children have.

  • this is so wrong there are laws saying children hAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL BUT THE GOVERN MENT ISNT GIVING THEM THAT OPTION.

  • We've set up a web-site with information, resources and tips on how you can get involved. Check it out at attawapiskat-school(dot)com

  • HELP CANADA! We can do this better; yes we can!

  • WTF is the gov up to?? - do they really want to maintain this poor relationship with the aboriginal peoples of Canada?!

"hey kids, you're our future - burden! but we helped to make you this way, but we tend to forget that part... don't you dare succeed now! we like to be right!"

    Ew, that hurt to type.

I made it, my brother made it, most of my family survived and fared well despite the early hurdles - but we shouldn't have to struggle so hard to get what everyone deserves.

  • What I did miss, from leaving my home community, was the opportunity to continue learning CREE!!!

Kids need top quality education! kids need to learn about themselves and feel good about it! kids need to feel, when adults tell them they're the future, that that is a good thing!

  • I graduated from Senior Kindergarden from JR Nakogee school!! That was in 1989. Then I attended St. Anne's school in Fort Albany for about three years - and my mom could see that the quality of education my younger brother and I were receiving was not the best that we, or any other kid, deserved. We moved to Sudbury, ON and continued school there; most of my family did similar things - especially for highschool. Now, I'm pursuing graduate studies at Laurentian University!

  • Ouch you're harsh... but you say what everyone I guess is thinking, I pay too much in Taxes.. fox

  • Hey what happened to that bard guy ???

    He made this interesting!!

  • You're right, no child has any say regarding those matters. But this video is about what matters to THEM!

  • Check out the video by a student for the children of Attawapiskat called "The Forgotten Children of Attawapiskat" . . . what matters to him is that his Cree peers be able to go to school.

  • Is that you Mr. Strahl?!

  • The direct link is now under the "news" headline of the main homepage.

  • what makes ME chuckle is wondering what % of these kids have on any say of these money decisions. Let's keep fighting FOR THE CHILDREN!!! Or their won't be any future decision making. To sign petition please go to charlieangus(dot)net. Their is a direct link.

  • Regardless whether the comment is negative or not, let us thank kentboy05 for another hit to our site.

  • once again, if you would like to sign a petition for these kids please go to charlieangus(dot)net. Their is a direct link.

  • Chuck Strahl has no place being the Minister of Indian Affairs, I am so damn fed up w/ idiots like him getting in there with no understsanding of what the facts are or what the history is between our First Nation people & the gov't. Every child in Canada has the right 2 a proper education in a safe environment, not in some make-shift shelter. Shame on Canada! Indian Affairs has NEVER had our best interests in mind nor is it an equal relationship, they r only there 2 dominate, control & oppress.

  • sign the petitions... it's very very verrrrry important. sign this too... dubeeyadubeeyadubeeya(dot)ipetitions(dot)com/petition/chstrahlatt this is to have inac head honcho here for one month... thank you.

  • And the petition was only made Monday morning!...So, see if WE take the 2 minutes the difference we're making.

  • the petition has 275 signatures so far.

(charlieangus(dot)net) We must make an effort to tell as many people as possible. It only takes 2 minutes to sign. PLEASE!!!!

  • If you would like to sign the petition for these kids go to charlieangus(dot)net, their is a direct link.

  • Only in Canada could the rich overlook the surplus population so they can enjoy those much needed tax breaks from conservatives.

  • First the gov gives the money to INDIAN and NORTHERN affairs, then whatever is left is given to the North American communities. Hopefully one day the british gov here in canada will teach the kids how this country was actually founded as opposed to telling everyone it had to do with confederation, teach the children about the LAND TREATIES that the chiefs signed at gun point, tell them about the BEOTHUCKS, teach them about ASSIMILATION without the right to vote and leave the reserve/ghetto! etc

  • I just uploaded a copy of the interview done on CBC with an Indian Affairs official trying to explain the situation in Attawapiskat. It's absolutely appalling to listen to- click on my name to see the video.

  • A NOTE FROM CHARLIE ANGUS: Wanna help the "STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS CAMPAIGN" 4 Attawapiskat in your area contact my office by e-mail & we can send U some basic fact sheets that can help orient students 2 the facts regarding Chuck Strahl's decision 2 kill a school project that has been negotiated & planned 4 years. Many schools & a # of school boards are supporting. Campaigning @ a school let us know so we can inform the A. E. T.

  • con'td part 3: Chuck's government announced 14 billions in tax cuts to big oil and the banks in November. In December the people of Attawapiskat were being told building

schools wasn't a priority because there was no money.

Come on Chuck, own up to what you're up to.

  • con't: In 2000, Indian Affairs Minister Robert Nault promised that a school would be built. In 2005 Indian Affairs Minister Andy Scott negotiated plans for building the school. In 2006 Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice continued with the negotiations to finalize the school.

In December 2008 Chuck Strahl killed the school. He

says Attawapiskat can make do with portables. His

staff are saying they have no plans period to build a

    school in Attawapiskat.

  • The federal government was responsible for the

poisoning of the school grounds at Attawapiskat in

1979. Chuck Strahl is trying to tell the media that

the federal government moved the students out of the

contaminated school because they were concerned. This

isn't what happened. Indian Affairs stalled and

delayed for year after year rather than take

responsibility for helping those children. It was the

parents who finally pulled the children out of the

    school.

  • something strange is happening... is it censorship? my homepage isn't working anymore!! what gives? josephraymechristophernakogee is no longer working!! i thought we have a freedom to say and express ourselves in this country...

  • In support, I have posted your story on my Pbase site.

  • hey it worked! genious i am... just take out the 9's there people... the hp address is in between... sign it please... thank you and god bless!

  • i have started a petition, it's on my homepage... 99999josephraymechristophernakogee.myknet.org9999

this petition is to have chuck strahl here for one whole month.

    please sign it...

  • This shouldn't happen anywhere.

I live in the US what can I do to help?

  • majenen: I just sent you a message through youtube with the link.

  • This is in response to Caledonia5011. I am a resident of this community and being not a very poor person, I could have the means to move my family as you suggest. However, think about the real poor families in this community who can never move. There are families of uneducated (not even graduated elementary)here that have many children who can never afford to move or even try. They are tied down to the fate of possibly forever remaining on the reserve.

  • Six Nations pays about $140 to $150 million a year in taxes to Canada and only recieves $70million a year for all budgets!!!!Canada takes $100 billion dollars a year in resource revenues off of native land!! There are no First Nations approved text books in Ontario according to the Ipperwash Inquiry!!!People need to deal with the facts not the myths!!

  • I support the kids of Attawapiskat asking the government for a new school. Is there an online petition? Shame on the Government past and present!

  • Yes there is a petition. I tried to post it here but it wouldn't work. I've tried to post my email so I could send it but it wouldn't work.

  • Please understand that although taxes are not paid on the goods sold, most products' markups to make the stores' profits are factored into the price. Milk is 12.00 plus up there, gas is about 1.75 a litre maybe even more. Bread is about 3 dollars a loaf. Nobody is rich, most people are on welfare. Go up there, stay for a month on the income yu currently take home. Experience the life and you will appreciate yours. Thank you.

  • i just saw this on the news(in vancouver) and decided to look up the video. i support what you stand for fully. i can just imagine what people would be like here, if they decided to close down any of our schools. i know what i would say. i wish you all the luck with your campaign.

  • What % of the money spent in Afghanistan would it take to build these children the school they were promosed.

A drop in the bucket I suspect

  • Who caused the diesel leak in the first place? What really happen.who made that leak????????????????????????

  • OMG!...Your guys voice is starting to be heard, they just aired it tonight here in Vancouver!

  • Wow, this is not fair for you guys, I think you guys are right, its not fair, they promised you guys they would build a school, and 8 long years passed.I'd rather they not promise you,so you guys wouldn't get your hopes up and then crushed by Chuck saying "No".It's sad that he thinks education is not important for you guys.he took away $109 million dollars for the school away.If they said Maybe in the beginning it wouldn't be so bad now.But i hope you guys keep protesting and they give in.

  • SHAME ON THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT!

I am a proud Canadian, but this and issues similar to this disgust me.

    KIDS...BE STRONG AND KEEP FIGHTING!

I am proud of each of you!

  • Okay people. Remember, this is an educational resource for schools wanting to get involved in the campaign. Irrelevant or racist/hateful comments will be deleted. This is for the kids so keep it respectful and clean. Thanks.

  • Having lived in this community for several years and being a non aboriginal I have an option of going to my other home down south and see the education my family is able to get. Why are the children here denied that right??

  • & they wonder why the interest in education is as it is?

& when the statistics rise - with this neglect - To whom will the accountability factor fall upon?

Miiwetch Mr. Angus for your concern.

  • who caused the diesel leak in the first place?

  • well good luck fighting canadian racist government,oh canada my home an native land...what a joke.

  • National Council of Welfare Reports:Fall 2007

"Lack of resources is also consistently cited as a reason why Aboriginal people do not obtain post-secondary education" The Canadian Federal government acknowledges it but won't do anything about it!!!

  • I taught in J.R. Nakogee School in 1988. While I was not chronically ill, I did suffer from continuous headaches and frequent dizzy spells. I had to move out of my teacherage because the smell of diesel was so overpowering, I was unable to concentrate on anything except my pounding headaches. The government should get off its holier-than-thou ass and begin doing what is right for First Nation's people.

  • I hear Charlie Angus was on Canada AM this morning about this; also saw the article in the Toronto Star yesterday as well! This is great news.

  • Build these kids a school. Don't forget, Mr. Strahl, this building is not just a school. It is the backbone and core of Attawapiskat. Most politicians will never understand this. While I applaud the MP from Timmins for saying what he has for Attawapiskat, the cynical side of me wonders if he is just saying these things because he is member of the opposition party

  • . It has always been the opposition's job to jump all over the leading party and "point fingers", so to speak. I am appalled by the treatment my government treats my fellow Canadians. Just shut the hell up, and do what is right. If this was a school in downtown Toronto for well-off middle class "white" students, I bet you everything I own, the school would have been built years ago, no questions asked.

  • o_0 wow poor kids...

  • My point is this..these are children, these are Canada's children, these are OUR children! The government needs to get their heads out of the sand and do the right thing. The government does not care about the children in this country, I have witnessed this 1st hand.

  • I posted the video response as an example of how our governments really care about our countries children. They seem to think if they ignore us we will quietly go away. Stand up and fight for whats right.

  • What about school supplies? How backdated are the books that the kids work with? And, if the kids are in this situation, how are the teachers holding up?

  • basicly, all we need is to write to chuck strahl saying that is not acceptable! 3 million he says? yeah right, he made it sound like it was a recent transferrance of funds... not even close! i thank you chant&kristyles! keep it up, we thank you for your efforts! please write to the INAC head cowboy man chuck strahl, with respects of course... every journey begins with one step.

  • What the heck...Government of Canada, stop being lazy and give these children a new school for God's sake! Native people of Canada have been stepped on long enough by the government system, and now it looks like it will go on for ANOTHER generation. How sad...

  • I too would like to know what we can do. I know that there are people here from that community and would like to let them know that there are alot more people that care then ones that don't. I too have started a petition in my area (Toronto) and I have also been campaning the media (W-5 and the fifth estate)to get the message out FOR THE KIDS!!!

If anyone from that community has any suggestions, please let us know. Aboriginal or not.......THEY'RE JUST KIDS!!!

  • If native women can stand up and fight against the discrimation of native women in the indian act and change it!!!...well we can as native people pull together to fight for our childrens right to an education.

  • Don't listen to the negative responses! Lets use this media to each out to each other and make a differenc. I know people who are able and willing to donate Books. Also to use this media to bring this issues to the forefront for many other communities across Canada.

  • J. Rayme Nakogee, my name is Chrystal Tabobandung, Iam a University student @ UBC. I've been fighting to bring awareness to this issue here in Vancouver, and I was wondering how I might do that I've started a petition online and a facebook to support the children, my son and I have also just gone school to school campaning for this cause. Is there any other way I can help. Don't listen to these ignorant uneducated people and their views. At the end of the day, they will get what they deserve.

  • Bottom line is, this community needs a decent school for their children. Is Atawapiskat not a part of this country? What do all of you people know about our government systems or reserve systems anyways? Why can't they have a safe school? How do you explain this to a child? Are some of you saying it's ok for them to live this way? Where are you hearts and where is your conscience? This is a need not a want or desire. Give them the school for the children's sake! Lets get prioritized government!

  • Ipperwash Inquiry Volume 2: Chapter 6 subsection 6.3 page 134

"Today, the provincial government owns approximately 87% of the land in Ontario. Approximately 12% is privately owned. First nations reserve land and federally owned lands such as national parks make up the remaining 1%!"

The government won't do anything about education or land claims!!!

  • Unfortunately, you don't understand what it means to be from a warrior culture. Indians have killed Indians, so what is your point. What they never did was shake someones hand and then stab them in the back when they turned around, because they had honour. That was the spineless quality of western european leaders who came to North America. I am a proud white of European heritage, but they way we dealt with natives is pathetic then and is pathetic now. Clearly YOU are an idiot.

  • Its a sad day when people have to resort to public outcry for basic necessities of life because our government is so incompetant. Why should our children be the ones who suffer? Every child has a right to safe and healthy schools, homes, etc. How would you feel if your child was sick on a daily basis because of poor conditions? All children need support and love and people should wake up and pay attention! Critisism and blaming doesn't deal with the problems it only makes accusers look stupid!
