Food Stamps or the "Link Card" in Illinois can buy Seeds to plant food. I have a friend who is growing Tomatoes, green beans, peas, etc... and is learning how to can what she grows through the help of a neighbor. She has three kids and does not buy any junk, pop, ice cream etc. and she does ok for the entire month. She does not go with out like so many others. She also uses coupons with the food stamps. We need more poor people like that!!!

Daily t-bone & shrimp? My family has $800/mth (husb ill, no disability yet - stupid). On *$300/MONTH* EBT, we make most suppers homemade. Husb & kids eat sugary cereal for breakfast (junk but cheap). Sorry folks, but many people with Food Stamps barely get enough benefits to purchase enough food to do them a month if all they were buying was cheap junk food. To require that they only buy what the rest of you considers "healthy" (which is really a subjective term here), they would be lucky to have enough food to last a week. Giving away your money. It is everyone's money. How much money do you pay versus how much money do you get as a result of the food stamp program.

If a person comes into a grocery story and uses food stamps, the money pays employees salaries that they use to buy stuff. That stuff that gets purchased with the food stamp money goes into other employee paychecks at another company and it keeps going on and on from there. So it helps you more than you care to admit.

You cant get certain food, you have to get a verity that will last u. I kid you not, my family qualifies for $750 a month in food stamp benefits. We have 5 kids. We also live in a 3500 sqft home.

Yet SOMEHOW by managing our money we end up with over $1,000 EXTRA (above and beyond all bills and expenses) WITHOUT using food stamps. We eat mostly organic foods and are healthy.

We do some of our own gardening, bake our own healthy organic bread...
