This song was actually on Jerrys 1971 solo album with Billy Kreutzmann, Jerry playing all instruments and Billy playing all percussion, a Most incredible album Indeed and so very full in my heart... God i miss you Jerry.
It's best to say that this is a Jerry Garcia song frequently covered by the Dead. Only two of the Dead's members played on this studio version: Bill on drums and Jerry on everything else. That said, I always loved this seeing this song played live, whether it was by The Jerry Garcia Band or The Grateful Dead. Such a great song.
I still have this vinyl. It was a Jerry Garcia solo album, not the Grateful Dead. He played almost all the instrumental parts. It's a GREAT song! Thanks for posting! :-)
@Hootowl54 I's has it's as well! (album on vinyl)! (and, psst, the one's who have posted will figure out who did what album and under what name soon enough, ;D )
@themusicmatterz A great song, spacey and beautiful - I used to hear it a lot back in the middle and late 70's out in Colorado via free form radio stations on the air at the time - KTCL in Ft. Collins, etc.
thinking of Alpine Valley wisconsin with some great friends and a girl I really loved,,,,,a thunderstorm was happening I will always feel that very moment with this song
All I got in were 3 shows in Southern Cal '89-'91. My friend said that it was something I just had to experience in order to appreciate. From the villiage in the parking lot to the stage contorting before your mind's eye...I was told to 'REMEMBER YOUR ZIP CODE"...and back down to earth I'd arrive.
And if the thunder don't get ya then the lightin will...this song reminds me hangin with my dad in the den when i was like 5...that and foothills :)

Ahhhhhh man. Those pedal steel leads get me every time. You have to watch this with the cartoon off the Grateful Dead Movie. Life changing.

Western sky music for the mind. There might be better pedal steel players but none more spacey than Garcia.
