  • I personal live in Huntington, I learn at a school nearby, and I have even talked to Jamie myself. I am probably the most involved thirteen year old in the food revolution. lol. My school meals actually compare to the one shown on tv. Breakfast pizza sucks by the way. lol. Now they don't. My school isn't in Huntington, it's right next door, but someone from the kitchen has changed our lunches. The are healthier and tastier!

  • The school provides lunches that are easy to prepare and cost effective. Students can bring their own lunch. If you don't like it, don't eat it. Junk food is just cheaper than healthy food, unfortunately. I felt he talked down about America and saw every American as ignorant. Just my first impression. "Swear on my kids' life I didn't say that." Who would say that?

  • awesome...i live in huntington...haha

  • After seeing this episode i am apauled at the attitude brought forth by the LUNCH LADIES, yes that is your job title now shut up. The lunch ladies refuse the even try and listen to Jamie's ideals and throw them in the trash. The newspaper/television threw his quotes completely out of context. All i can say is, is that America seriously needs to wake up and realize what we are to doing to out children. Thank You for showing us this Jamie.

  • Ok guys, I am from huntington, we're not all this bad! They only show the a**holes who are like that. Before you start saying we're dumb and dont know what what's good for us. Actually come to Huntington first

And when he held up tomatoes and the kids "said" they were potatoes, that is definately edited.

  • ok guys, I live in Huntington. We are not all this bad, they only show the miserably bastards that are like that. Before you start saying we're a**holes and dont know what is good for us. Actually come to Huntington first!

  • I'm really looking forward to watching this show and I'm proud of him for doing it. He is delivering some tough love, but that's really what we need sometimes, myself included. Good for him and I hope he changes the minds of all the doubters and it does become a revolution that spreads nationwide.

Thank you Jamie for caring about the kids and helping us do better.

  • I saw this on TV Sunday and I'm proud of J.O. for doing this. It is TV and so far the first episode, so to build the anticipation we're seeing the cooks as stubborn and a little obnoxious, but I predict it will change. I support what Jamie is doing, but I understand the lack of enthusiasm by the lunch cooks who by FDA standards are giving the kids "adequate" nutrition. I'm hoping J.O. will start a revolution that spreads throughout the country and sends a message to food producers to change.

  • Does this show address the cultural and economic factors of food, or is it just preachy?

  • Look up "Jamie Oliver's TED Prize Wish" if you want to hear his mantra on the issue. I'd call it outspoken more than preachy. It would be preachy if you're trying to force unnecessary ideals onto people but with a growing life or death problem like this, it's not so much pushing ideals as repairing the damage to the system.

Anyway, he goes into all the factors: culture, government spending, health care, etc, etc. Not sure if all of that made it into the show yet.

  • I watched this documentary on hulu, and I was shocked that even at the end, the cafeteria workers were still stubborn to his ways. People are dying from obesity. DYING!! If there was a way that you could prevent other epidemics from spreading, wouldn't you try your hardest to stop it?

  • I don't think the people in that town are stupid, just used to an unhealthy lifestyle. I did think they have been really rude and stubborn. I'm glad this show is on and I'm learning a lot and have even started changing the foods my family eats.

  • That nasty b*tch lunch lady wouldn't know good food if someone strapped her to a chair and forced her to eat nothing but fresh food for a year. She and the others don't have the first clue about being part of a solution because they're too busy feeling sorry for themselves because no one like Jamie was around to care more about them. They're jealous and want the kids to experience the same misery they create for themselves. They're cowards and have no courage at all to try and help.

  • I saw the show and it's amazing how some people refuse to be told different and are literally digging their own grave.

  • I have visited Huntington and unfortunately the only people who are making Huntington look bad are some of the individuals like the defensive radio host, the kitchen chefs, the principal and the lady in charge of the school lunch program. It's amazing how ingrained bad habits are and how unwilling some people are to change for the better. The sad thing is how their bad habits are effecting the welfare of the children!

  • Thank you Jamie for caring enough about children to put yourself out there and not letting country boundary's stop you from doing a whole lot of good!

  • that one DJ at the beginning was unnessecarily nasty to Jamie. He seems like such a nice person.

  • i can not wait to see this show. its great that he wants to make a diffrence

  • and its not this is not my opinion these are facts i learned from my nutrition class in school I have learned that you do need sugars in you diet but that is the wrong kind of sugar ( im not saying go eat a bag of sugar either)and even if it is good in moderation its impossible to moderate there are thousands of foods that have it in them I am only telling you fact not how to live your life so you decide

  • I have read on abc someone has posted that this was not shot in huntington and I am not sure wether or not it was but either way he is trying to make a difference and thats not easy to do all these processed foods are fast and easy but they are not healthy I am an aspiring chef though I am only 15 but these chemicals that the goverment allows to be put in the foods are not healthy i have seen the commercials for high fructose corn syrup and they say it is good in moderation

  • The USDA determines school standards in the cafeteria! SHOCKING REALLY! I was obese for 10 years. Then 2 years ago I learned about real food and have finally freed myself from the slavery of processed foods -60LBS. If your diet consisted of mainly beige colored "foods", you are eating the Standard American Diet. This diet will lead to illness.Learn more from Michael Pollan and Jonathan Safran Foer or talk to a certified Nutritionist. It's the best place to start.

  • This show rocks! The only thing it's missing is an exercise guru to get the citizens off the couch!

  • Wow how eye opening. We live in one of the richest nations in the world and you can't find something healthy to eat? I don't really think this show is all about that one town, it's about America and the world as a whole. Let's face it, our world is getting bigger and bigger and if we don't do something about it, who will? Praises for Jamie standing up for what's right. And for all you haters, enjoy your saturated fats while you have them...

  • In South Carolina in the schools the fired a lot of Spanish teachers because they said the kids are getting fat so they need more sport classes but the idiots keep serving fried chicken, pizza , etc for the kids, my sister can't find a job for these ignorants !!!

  • I can't wait to watch this show! I think it's great that he is trying to help people live healthier lives.

  • Will be watching this. :) Oh and to the parents letting your kids drink monsters and vaults to kill their liver is such great parenting! go jamie! :)

  • finally!

  • Maybe we need a nanny state to keep this country from getting fatter and more unhealthy. Be careful about the paradigm of "personal responsibility" - we're seeing just how well that works. The people who rally against this kind of attitude shift are usually the first to demand the medical care they probably don't have insurance for.

  • I will be watching this show, but not without skepticism. The statistics are flawed. Across the Ohio River, in Ohio, the only county hospital was closed 9 years ago. Doctors associated with Huntington hospitals practice in Ohio and Kentucky and send their patients to Huntington. I am an Ohioan who has been sent to Huntington hospitals by doctors. I have worked in Huntington in the past and know that obesity is not as bad as it is portrayed. I've visited many many cities and it's no worse.

  • Great job. I cannot wait to see this show. This is what I have been waiting for.

  • Yes! It's about time someone takes the lead to wake up America! It's disgusting what people eat & then want a pill to get thin. Hey people, guess what? You are what you eat! Fat foods = fat people. It's sad that parents don't COOK decent meals & teach kids healthy eating. Cooking healthy means fresh meats, veggies & fruit. Support our Farmers-not corps who fill our cupboards with preservatives & chemicals. Is there any wonder why cancer is so prevalent too? Cheers to Jamie. I'd love to help.

  • you guys are all just sour. the truth be told... America is unhealthy. Period. We all need to start doing our part and take care of ourselves and our eating habits. Bottom line, it starts when you are a child.... and what they serve in the cafe.. for breakfast is absurd!!! Kids should be eating oatmeal.. not pizza... Way to go Jamie!! =) keep it up.

  • @shoppgurlie maybe next he should go back home. i mean when me and me mum went i saw mad fattty people. and i guess it cause of their addiction to "fizzy" drinks

  • I live in Huntington. The people in the city are not as bad as this shows. Huntington gets the statistics it does because rednecks from Ohio and Kentucky die at the hospitals here which are the only ones in the area. I am not trying to defend the town, because it is a dying rust belt city; but this show is nothing but a lot of over dramatization. It will be cancelled in two weeks, cause the only people watching will be Huntington residents who want to see themselves on TV.

  • @tru2manu and I live in Ohio and had to use Cabell Huntington Hospital to have my baby because of my doctor. I would have preferred one of the hospitals in Kentucky due to my child being "misplaced" for 2 hours. While I agree with you that those from Kentucky and Ohio contribute to the West Virginia statistics, not every person is a redneck (not disagreeing that there are some). And being that I have worked in Huntington in the past, it is true that the people are portrayed wrong in this.

  • I live here too and also work in healthcare. I assure you that just as many people that die are from this area as from anywhere else.

  • I was in Huntington for the filming of this show...and it's all warped and staged to inflate the "ignorance" of the town's inhabitants. Scenes like the kid thinking tomatoes were potatoes were entirely out of context and not indicative of the larger populace. It's shameful to present an entire town of people as stupid hillbillies and make a buck off of them and then pretend you're trying to "save" them. It's disgusting.

  • @BochsOfficePoison I agree 100%. I grew up in Huntington and believe this show is just another ploy to poke fun at an entire town. Absolutely ridiculous. It's embarrassing and abc should be ashamed.

  • its just sensational garbage and anyone who believes it to be truly representational is either a fool or a brit who just likes to have a go at the USA.

  • sick of these nanny-state communists...leave the food alone.....what happened to freedom of choice? Pretty soon were gonna be forced to eat lettuce without no choice if we let these progressives have their way.....worry about your own selves

  • whats the song ?

  • This show looks like it may become one of the best shows of the year.

  • Jamie Oliver did much to improve school cafeteria fare in England. Given that American kids are suffering from Type II diabetes, obesity and destined to have a shorter lifespan than their parents (thanks, McDonalds), he could make a needed difference here.

  • Go Jamie!!!

  • thank you, jamie

  • throw in an Englishman...and ull get a hit show....lol...I think this Jamie guy needs to loose a couple of pounds himself to do a diet how

  • 1:29

  • Im orginally from Huntington WV and moved to LA 15 years ago. And when I go back to WV, not just Huntington, you can see the ignorance that the people have of when it comes to the proper diet and exercise.

And for all the negative comments about jamie, his want to help, and how WV must have in breeding, that only confirms the ignorance of the people that live there. So, keep it up, so you can just prove to the outside world just how much of a ignorant hillbilly you all are.

  • Im from Huntington WV and moved to LA over 15 years ago. I can say that when I go back to see my family, I can see without a doubt the ignorance and poor judgement of the community has when it comes to diet and excercise.

Stats dont lie. People in WV are FAT, and continue to have bad habits with food and tobacco.

And the inbreeding comment is funny, but also shows ignorance. Jamie had a major battle on his hands, because most people in that city, are just plain ignorant.

  • Well, guess what? In the US, people are ignorant, but they have the right to be as ignorant as they want. They can stagger along the sidewalk, drooling all the way, WITHOUT worry that some MP is busy thinking up yet more insane laws like they do in the UK to NannyState them to death.

No one likes a snob who comes from the UK to look down on "you Americans". That alone will be a recipe for disaster no matter what part of the US that's pulled in, period.

  • @mhirtes12 ..... ignorances is a "right"? Wow, that's a new one.... where's that in the Constitution?

  • He's not looking down on them or trying to make new laws. He's trying to help people with really bad habits. Most people do not "choose" to be ignorant. They just do not know any better and sometimes people like Jamie need to come in to show them the reality of there state. You are to paranoid about your freedoms getting taken away.

  • Good luck Jamie!!!!

  • LOVE Jamie Oliver! This is a show I want to watch. If he saves the health of one child it will be worth it, but I'm sure he will impact the lives of others. Parents care about their kids.

  • How much of the town's problem is inbreeding and how much of it is diet? That's what I want to know.

  • I think this is great but it's not just one city who needs him it's a nation.

  • Ahh! The revolution will meet resistance?!

I am from Huntington, WV and it is not THAT bad! Now I believe why reality TV is such a load of bull. This is terrible!

  • He didn't even do anything

    He came

Found the fattest people he could find

    Told them they were fat

    Made some fake filming

    And then left

    That's some impact alright

  • Yeah what a disingenuous prick! What the hell does he know anyway???

I mean it's not like Dumb Brit is responsible for helping change the U.K. school food policies so kids are fed healthier lunches or anything. oh wait.... nm

    :P

  • 1:28 what is he crying about? did he think that these people had never heard from anyone that they need to eat healthier? did he think he'd just be able to waltz into town from another country and impose his will on these people?

The world is full of well meaning morons. I'm not saying he's one of them, but he is crying and saying no one understands him.

  • He is crying cause they don't understand where they are. He trying to help them. People don't have to be this way. People who can live better, healthier lives and choose not to are the morons. Not the one who try to help people and change things.

  • Watch Food, Inc.. we are all doomed no matter what

  • "I thought there was only mis'rable bastards like that in England."

    Oh, if only, Jamie.

  • This will be a great show if people of America watch and educate themselves.

Jamie Oliver is a God Send.

  • Found this from a Twitter from Slow Food. I WILL be watching. I hope it works.

  • wow
