Oh man, I love formation flying in RC. It's rare to see guys with $10k jets doing it, so this video is a real treat. It's extremely challenging to do, and the faster the plane the more difficult it is. These guys were doing a fairly good job of it, but I thought it was going to be a mid-air collision. They had several near-death moments in the air where I thought for sure they were gonna hit each other. It's too bad the camera man wasn't close to the pilots to catch their audible calls.
Well it is obvious that it hit something. We call that "Master of the Obvious", however the pilot is extremely good (not in-fallible), but I am sure would not fly in to something without something being wrong. Bad servo, distracted, something.
Just wanted to know if a post mortem was done and wanted to express my condolences as the amount of work that goes in to these is substantial.
Read my post. I asked if there was a post mortem to determine if something failed, causing it to hit the "Yellow Marker". I don't know, something like flutter, servo, crossed transmitters etc.
@SlamDuncDrummer yeah yeah alright, i mis read your post.. sorry :L xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xoxoxoxoxox <----- love
@Mark1Spitfire Don't worry I don't mean it. I am aware that it was playing on the PA system and that it was the choice of the pilots hence the deserve to crash comment. I know you're not to blame.
As for the choice of music I'm ashamed to tell people about my hobbies as every loser seems to use that music on their vids. It's not synonymous with rc jets, no full scale jets, just rc jet videos on Youtube.
It's embarrassing to show my friends these videos as they'll think I like the music.
@thexonexkid I've been flying for the past 18 years have learned and for various reasons they crash... one thing every experienced model flyer knows is that things go wrong no matter how good you are at flying and building. I've flown cheap and expensive models and flown at various clubs in the UK. One thing I've come to understand is that in this game you don't get too attached to your model, at the end of the day it's a toy no matter how expensive it is or how much time you've invested in it.
1. One who operates or is licensed to operate an aircraft in flight.
A person in control of any aircraft or spacecraft is known as a pilot irrespective of how it is controlled. RC piloting is obviously very different from sitting in a cockpit however it is still formally known as piloting as is the case with military unmanned aircraft used in the battle field and in search and rescue. NASA famously used a remote pilot for crash tests in the 80's.
@kingpav Im not trying to say that they arent "classed" as some form of pilot. But as i'm sure you are well aware...and as youve said...sitting in a cockpit and flying an aircraft worth millions of pounds, full of people, is a little different both in qualifications, education and training/experience....to standing on the ground with a remote control. 2nd of all...I dont think the military employ RC aircraft controllers who do it as a hobby...they are of course massivley experienced.
@merrylittlechristmas yeah the two things are clearly different, everybody knows that. As for the controllers of the RPVs (Remotely Piloted Vehicle) they don't need much training and experience is not essential, I don't know how long they get but they don't need more than a days if that. When looking at RC as a hobby people laugh at calling them pilots but when it's used for aerial photography, aerial footage, land surveillance, crowd control, search and rescue then it doesn't sound so daft.
The comparisons made below are silly comparisons, flying real jets is hard and so is flying model ones but they should not be compared with each other.
It's like comparing an ice skater to an ice sculptor.
An RC pilot can't just take the controls of a full scale plane in much the same way a full scale pilot can't just take the controls of an RC jet, in both situations they would both crash pretty soon after doing so.
@merrylittlechristmas Hi, Don't forget it was the previous captain that had issues with RC operators calling themselves pilot. The arrogance of the man felt that he was the only one entitled to label himself as a pilot. Obviously he was a real pilot allthough that was not proved as he could have claimed to be one when he might have been a microsoft flight simulator pilot. The benefit of the doubt could be applied.
Someone who steers a vessel or aircraft by is a pilot otherwise its autonomous.
@merrylittlechristmas Also costateguise is now aware that CAA cap658 referes to rc operators as "pilots". I think that's dented his ego slightly hence the bragging of wages after.
Nice chap, however, lets see him fly a 350mph rc jet and attempt to convert his commercial pilots skills into rc control.
Should make an interesting great youtube video on his first flight.
I was there that day. The morning display was superb. This was the afternoon display. Before where he crashed there is a small creek, as it was warm that day, the heat over the creek caused turbulance and draged him down before he could react as he flew lower to thge ground the second display.
@Mark1Spitfire Turbulance might be the wrong word. =S As it flew over the creek the the air diference draged the plane down and his reaction was to slow.

@stueyrandall The screaming was, because girls scream.! There was a loud bang on impact, which was not picked up by the video. This is what spooked her.
Doesn't make sense when you say he has the money to crash it. Why would you take pleasure in someone elses misfortune? Anyway, he did get another jet after.!!!
@Mark1Spitfire what i ment was that if he had the money to have the plane and to beable to fly it he knows there is allways the risk that he could crash it and destroy it he must have the money to replace it there for is clearly minted and shouldent look so disapointed
@stueyrandall I realise this is over a month old but your comments are just plain stupid. So no one should buy anything unless they can afford a replacement as well?? lol. Also, if you have no interest in model aircraft why are you even watching the video?
I realise some people just go on YT to write stupid comments and slate everyone else's abilities etc etc, I guess you're one of those people, might be better if you just refrain from posting if you've nothing remotely intelligent to say.

@kingpav Thats a nasty comment saying people deserve to crash based on music.
Here are the facts. The music you hear is actually being played over a PA system at the flying display. It has not been added after by me.
To be honest, I agree with you the music is cheesy and sucks however it does represent fast jets and is synonymous

A loud bang too was heard, the camera wasn't ready to pick that up.
I held the camera, so the two planes would cross in the middle of the frame, by luck caught the moment of doom.

Who crashed? Was it Ali or the other guy?
happyhouse152 2 years ago
Not Ali...!!! mat bishop
Mark1Spitfire 2 years ago
Then why was Ali there at 2.16?
And would the skymaster hawk be a good trainner jet or something easier?
happyhouse152 2 years ago
Ali was also demonstracting his great skills at the woodsprings 2009 show.
However this dual flight was NOT his flight slot.
It was father and son Steve and matt bishop display team.
It was matt bishop that crashed.
Ali took the transmitter off matt who was shaken up by the incident and gave support to him. Good fella.

What a miracle non one got hurt.
WakeUpDummies 2 years ago
Not really. Strict, well thought out saftey codes are practiced at public shows. Credit to the system. Exactly why,no one was hurt
Mark1Spitfire 2 years ago
Sorry mark.. I was half joking (the RC aspect of it not the safety of the crowd :)

dispiace... era comunque un bel volo sincronizzato

There is a basic flaw in all that goes with power models. The crash record speaks for itself.

good vs bad flight ratio?
Mark1Spitfire 2 years ago
Very true to the story of Top Gun, but it must get a bit expensive crashing one every time.
